Puffins are also viewable, much closer, on the "In the Footsteps of the Elves" excursion out of Seydisfjordur - assuming they're still around.  But "Footsteps" is a long bus excursion, so that may make it undesirable for some, for more than one reason.  And puffins are viewable on the "Vigur Island" excursion out of Isafjordur, though the viewing is distant there, similar to Heimaey. Occasionally they may land on a rock not terribly far away from where you can stand to wait for them, but I had to wait 20 minutes for that to happen a week ago.  And by now, they may be leaving; not sure.

Here's a picture from the Elves excursion; name of place is something like "Hafnarholmi."  I took this with a telephoto lens, but I was probably only about 30 feet away, on steps that go up a hillside.

    Nice picture, thanks for sharing.

We 4 canceled our shore excursions last night and plan to cancel the cruise on Monday.  We really didn't want to do this but after what happened to the recently reported group who are now on the bus we  decided we didn't want to go thru that.  This is cruise number 5 for me that I didn't get to go on because of world wide health issues.

Us too, #5.  We have one for May 2022 and Jul 2023.  Fingers crossed😍

My group of 4 is canceling Monday which will be day 15.  We arranged our own flights.  I hate it.  What I hate even more is that Viking isn't stepping up and canceling and giving us our money back.  But, I knew the rules. There is no way we can go on with our plans and enjoy the trip.

We felt the same, would not be able to enjoy ourselves.  Sorry, know how disappointing it is😪.

  4. Anyone have their shore excursion time changed?  On day 7, Heimaey Beluga Whale Center went from 2:45 to 4:15.  This gets back to ship 5:45.  Ship is scheduled to leave at 6.  Being this is the last day of cruise, I wanted to go have a LEISURELY tea or cocktail before dinner.

I called Viking and was told that the 3rd party vendor changed the time. Is this excursion worth the time to go and see?

    Thanks🥰

We are in Patreksfjordur in the Westfjords (less populated) right now and driving to Isafjordur today. They do require you to conform to the regulations. Period. They definitely want to keep cases down.

Great picture.  Thanks for this picture; our cruise at end of Aug won’t see them😪because they leave Iceland mid to late Aug.

  6. Thank you, Clay, for setting up this thread.  We are on the August 28 cruise.  Hopefully the test was a false positive.  I can think of worse places to be if you can’t go ashore.  Enjoy your sea day and drink.

How has the weather been there?  On you tube, Affluent travel was on the sky 6 days ago sitting on the upper deck, in the sun.  He had shorts on and what looked like a light jacket.😻
