We've thought about getting one of the OS, so there's also be a side balcony to peer down from.
Would that be useful?GC
We just did the Panama Canal in an OS and think it’s the best suite. You have forward views plus you can got on your side balcony and see the action there, too.
-
We love the forward facing suites with balconies. Yes, windy when at sea but we love the views and seeing where we are going.

We mix it up with NCL and private tours but when we see something we like, we book it right away. NCL tours do fill up and no, they usually do not hold spaces to book once onboard the ship so we book early but know we can always cancel if we change our minds or find something better. The problem with NCL is once you book a tour for your port, the other tours offered no longer show up on your Plan and Explore so it’s tougher to find other tours offered unless you do a general excursion search for port excursions.

Mertziek,
We were on the January 29th Breakaway cruise, and tried to book it at the box office, but were told it was no longer there. We were looking forward to the show.
Thank you. I was thinking it was canceled.

Thanks for the review Bird but is it still offered?
-
Is the Velvet Dinner & Show still offered on Breakaway or is that another entertainment option that has been canceled by NCL?

Teresa,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed, thoughtful review! We are on the Jewel this Sat., 2/4, from Fuerte Amador to 2/13 Colon. Hitting Costa Rica, the ABC's, and Colombia. Really appreciate the schedule you posted and info about the weather (I dread the humidity).
Have been trying to do the Canal since 2017 and it looks like we're finally getting to go. It has been a bucket list item for my husband for a long time. We are in the Haven, a forward facing Deluxe Owner's Suite with balcony, so we've got two balconies - one on the side and one facing the front. Thanks to your review, we now know to look at the aft of the ship for some good views, as well.
You will love the suite at the front of the ship. We were in it and moved between balconies for our transit of the canal. Best seats on the ship for the PC!!! And in the canal you get to see the locks closing and opening from the front so not sure if you need to go to the aft but it’s a great day of chilling on your balcony!

You should check your credit card charges closely no matter what. It's not just cruise lines that make mistakes.
Yup. I always do but a good reminder for all.

And the second pending charge for NCL Sky has disappeared, too. Phew!!! Saves me the hassles of dealing with NCL customer service and my credit card company. I’m still trying to figure out how charges from a ship we never sailed on get posted but not going to obsess over that. A good lesson learned though - check your credit card charges closely following any cruising so if there are mistakes, you catch them early.

A great review! We were on your sailing, too, and share most of your observations. We had a front facing cabin and were able to be on our balcony for the entire transit without baking in the sunshine plus had a nice cooling breeze. And we did the Cabo camel ride - a unique experience.

Well one of the charges has dropped off this morning. I’ll keep watching if the other one does before pursuing them via telephone or case submission. NCL bookkeeping defies logic!
-
Thank you for your help.

We returned from our cruise on the Jewel on Jan 26. I checked my credit card and see the charges I expected for that cruise on Jan 26 but I have two charges for NCL Sky dated on Jan 24 and Jan 25 which I did not generate. We were never on the Sky. Who do I contact at NCL to get this resolved?

Just got an email saying the following below so think that means no upgrade for us. But we were really happy with our original selection so not too disappointed plus it saves us money.
“This email is to confirm that we have received your offer(s) to be upgraded on your upcoming cruise. While your offer has not been selected yet, you may still be selected for an upgrade by our onboard team.”

No email today either so thinking we are not getting the upgrade. But we are ok with the cabin we booked and looking forward to our cruise on Saturday. I’ll come back if/when I hear either way. Thanks to all for your input.

Have you tried using the chat feature and if so, what did they say?
Tom🤔
Great idea but No I didn’t. Just going to wait and see what happens.

Also I bet if you go to your email that has your bids and follow the link to modify/ cancel it will let you adjust your bids it only doesn’t let you adjust when in processing status. How does inventory look on your sailing, have you been monitoring it to see how full sailing is?
Did that and I click on Modify/Cancel link and I see my bid with the same message “Pending” so I can’t increase, decrease or even cancel my bid right now. It appears we are locked in now to whatever the upgrade fairy decides. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I’m not sure how our ship inventory looks so not sure how full the ship will be. It’s fun dreaming that we might get the upgrade though.

Any news yet?
No. Trying to wait patiently but according to BirdTravels may be a day or 2 before we know. 🙄🤞🤪

The OP said he is leaving on Saturday and that he now is no longer able to modify his bid. Again, I have won several Haven Bids and every time the day i was awarded first all bids but one would expire and the remaining would say Pending and could not be altered. within 2 hours it went to processing and the the email sent for the upgrade. I understand 45 days out they all say pending but you also can still modify your bid. I would bet the OP will update saying he won the bid at about 11am
Oh I hope so! But we are being realistic and will be happy if we stay in our originally booked cabin. We bid just for fun….I’ll report back if we get upgraded.

Did you bid on more then one cabin category?
No, just 1

You can also check your credit card to see if it's been charged. Good luck.
Nothing on cc yet either but I’m cautiously hopeful now that we got our bid.

Well trying not to get too excited yet. Cabin number is the same on my account. I’ll watch for an email and try to not get too excited until I hear officially about my bid.

I have an upgrade bid in and leave for our cruise on Saturday. I checked my bid and it says “Pending” with no ability to modify/cancel the bid. What does it mean?
-
Another option is to prebook for 2 and then when onboard, go to reservations agent and change to just one. That way you have your desired seating time. Plus, they will not charge you for 2 if only one person eats.

PoA itinerary change
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted · Edited by mertziek
I agree. Wonder why the change but I’d rebook the cruise for another date if possible if the Napali sail by has been removed. The Napali coast was one of the highlights of our cruise.
