  1. I'll have to disagree with you there. I think it's quite sad that there won't be a Jewel class ship based in NY after the Gem leaves.

I am with you there. After being on the breakaway a second time last December, I felt no need to go back nor would I be interested in a similar ship like the Bliss. The breakaway class is fine for the first time but does not hold my interest the second time around. Mainly due to lack of entertainment suitable for families after dinner. It can't even accomodate a different show every evening due to a theatre that can only accomodate one sixth of the double occupancy available on the ship.

Needless to say, my family are very much looking forward to sailing the Gem this December where I can decide to attend a family friendly show 10 minutes beforehand should I choose every evening. Not to mention a bunch of other things we can't find on the Breakaway.

To be fair I do prefer the cabins on the Breakaway.

  2. When we ate at Cagney's they offered my kids a children's menu. It was the same one from the main dinin the same cabinng room. It is basically a free meal that they could get without the UDP, and doesn't take full advantage of the UDP, but it may be appealing to your son.

Thank you. This I already know I was just wondering if someone else can have his specialty dinner, like our travel companion not in the same cabin?

  3. I have 4 in a cabin with udp. My son will only eat what he eats so will not be having what the restaurants are offering. Can someone else have his dinner? Specifically someone not in our cabin. Otherwise, dh and I would have our kids entrees. Does Ncl "charge" all four dinners to one of our cards? Curious as to how udp is redeemed.

No such luck with our other reservation. That one was booked with a TA who doesn't work on weekends. The only TA in his office working on Saturday didn't hide his annoyance at being asked to work on another TA's booking. Plus I'm sure he' date=' like everyone else, had trouble getting through to NCL. He didn't call me back, and now the category is sold out. I would have saved at least $300 if I'd re-booked yesterday, but there's no way I'm going to mess with the reservation now that the category is sold out.

Oh well, can't win 'em all! But it is making me re-think my booking strategy. In the future I might book directly with NCL and wait until a week or two before final payment date to transfer to a TA (to get travel agency perks).[/quote]

You have only 60 days from booking to transfer to TA. New rule from 2013.

  5. Obc from ta shows up as gifts, like any other bon voyage gift once the ta actually purchased the obc. Makes sense they don't want to purchase the obc until you are in 100% penalty or they know you're definitely sailing. Shows up under booked items in myncl if any was purchased.

  6. I still haven't got the mattress topper whenever I requested from my steward. Sometimes it seems he doesn't understand or I didn't find him in time. I would like to request one since our daughter shares our bed and prefer not to have one of us over the crack. I usually don't want to trouble the steward especially on the first day but I figured it's not too much trouble for him since I am saving him from making an extra bed everyday.

So will guest services take requests on embarkation day? Stewards are usually busy taking care of the luggage then and they might be out of them by the time I speak with him.

  7. I don't see how that would be possible in the real world. In my situation for example, I saved $900 by getting 2 kids free. For me to give up my kids sail free offer, my balcony room would have to go down in price to about $400 pp for it to be cheaper than what I paid. When have you ever seen a 7 day balcony for a 7 day on a new ship for $400 pp? What ship and sailing are you on that giving up the kids sail free offer worked out for you?

Looks like you should get a new pcc. With two kids ksf is the best promo. One kid not necessarily so if price drop enough. I wouldn't give up though. Might need to fire your pcc to get a rep who will upgrade you because we know their system allows it as you experienced yourself.

Two years ago, ksf came back in November. Hoping for the same then no more excuses by the reps. I am waiting for my week to drop enough before asking for upgrade.

    Good luck!

  8. I think it depends on which rep you get. That's what happened to me back in May. After some persistence by my ta, a rep upgraded me to a balcony from an inside. I am hoping to upgrade again for my Dec cruise when price drops low enough. Maybe ksf would even come back to make the upgrade easier.

My advice is to keep trying and hope a rep know how to and will upgrade you. Good luck.

  9. I am on the same sailing as you and booked kids sail free. Please call Ncl or have your ta call asap. With the right rep, you can upgrade for the difference of the first two passengers only and still keep ksf. My ta was unsuccessful at first but he was persistent and eventually got us an upgrade and we still kept the ksf. Losing kids sail free is not worth it to upgrade imho. We are so close to sailing now, giving you a better room should be easier. Btw, my friend in a studio was upgraded to balcony when the single supplement was waived and kept all her obc and other promos not offered at time of upgrade at no charge.

Just don't act entitled and keep trying for the right rep.

    Good luck!

  10. Thanks, that's what I thought.

I would keep trying. All depends on the rep you get. They are getting desperate trying to fill our sailing. I am on the sailing as you. Prices keep coming down.

My friend was successful in upgrading to balcony from a studio and did not lose her obc and dine promo with no single supplement. I was shot down because of ksf but my TA will keep trying though. Done this twice in previous years.

Good luck! You will never know unless you try.

  11. I'm already booked so I guess I can't use it. I am before final payment but apparently that doesn't matter.

You still can as long as the reward was purchased before you booked. You final payment will be reduced by $250. I have done this twice for two friends. Some ncl rep will tell you you can't but they are wrong. Don't let them tell you you have to cancel either. Not all reps are created equal, so just call and get another one or ask your agent if you are using one.

  12. I believe the first week sign ups were not processed. I signed up dh later and he got the brochure. Same with my friend. Second signup did the trick. I would suggest everyone who has not received yne yet just sign up again. My friend actually got a ups tracking # two days later.

Getting ncl to apply it to an existing booking is another story and not many happy endings.

  13. Yes, the booklet of tickets is available at the Dockyard. The booklets are sold at the Visitor Information Center(s). As you exit the cruise ship, you will enter a building which has a VIC. There are 3 other VICs at the Dockyard.

    SBtS

Thank you for the info. This wasn't true years ago. Only passes were available at the dockyard. Another thing to remember is these tickets never expire, so keep any extras for next trip.

  14. As long as the cruise reward was purchased before you made the booking, you can apply it. Did this last year for two friends with rewards I purchased from another cruiser who couldn't use them. Helped both parties.

Some ncl reps are not as good as others and will tell you you can't do this. Its not true. This is why if you buy one in May, it would not work for a March booking.

Good luck buying one or borrowing one from someone until you can buy one for them in May.
