  1. I just called upsell, for star out of Tampa for Jan 31st, I was told nothing available yet. I will try again in a few days.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll call either tomorrow or Wednesday and post the update here. But doesn't it seem like they should be getting on the stick, there are so many unfilled cabins, it must be a huge job trying to rearrange everyone..........

  2. I've been following pricing pretty religiously and what I've noticed from the last few sailings is that the suites have also been fairly empty till around14 days out, then they start to disappear, so I'm thinking this is the start of the upsells. I've never tried this before, but everyone on this forum has such good advice that I think I'm ready to give it a go.

  3. 13 Days until our cruise. We are booked in a MA mini suite. Would like to score an upsell to a full suite (there are lots of them left). Is it time for me to start calling the upsell #? The specific suite I'm looking at is currently priced $1100pp more than I paid for the mini. What can I expect to pay for the upsell? Would love to hear from anyone who might have advice for me. Thanks in advance for your help. Pat

  4. One thing I haven't heard mentioned and its the one thing I would live in terror of......What if a young woman was walking down the hall towards her cabin, one of the doors to another cabin opens and she is pulled into that cabin.....it could easily happen, in the afternoons I've frequently encountered long, lonely halls with so many doors. This is what I worry about, I've even felt uncomfortable once or twice myself, so I think up on the public decks they would be fine, but my rule would be to stay away from the cabin decks and to scream bloody murder if anyone tries to touch you.

  5. Hi Pat, I'm confused about your inability to get specialty reservations. The butler does not handle restaurant ressies, the concierge does. Did you ask your concierge to handle reservations for you?

I'm sorry I misspoke, It was our concierge that we spoke with to help us (the only thing we asked for the whole week) and Dining Reservations and the hostess at Cagney's.......and as I said, it was 48 hrs in advance and the ship was not full. The other thing was that the Dining reservation screens that indicate whether reservations are available at the specialities was never right. I asked about it, just to be told that they probably hadn't been updated (in fact, different screens had different information, but none of them were right when actually trying to make the reservations. It was what it was, and we had good meals where we ended up eating those nights, but I don't think people should get the impression that just because they have a suite or the UDP it will give them any priority.

  6. In the restaurants you couldn't depend on who was going to be bringing you drinks, sometimes it was the waiter, sometimes it was someone else. I just suggest ordering a few glasses of wine in advance and you'll be happier. We actually ordered 3 glasses and poured them into one glass (they pour a short glass of wine and the glasses are very large). The waiter actually thanked us for doing it that way!

We also had the UDP. A word of warning, I thought after reading multiple posts here that I would not have to make reservations DAYS in advance for the specialities and even if they were booked our butler would be able to get us in.....NOT THE CASE. The last two nights of the cruise i could not get reservations to either Cagney's, Le Bistro or La Cucina for a time earlier than 9:30 and this was trying to make those reservations two days in advance. Our butler couldn't help us at all. I was disappointed and felt the UDP was not worth it. We had to eat in one of the main dining rooms the last night and were pleasantly surprised. the food and service was wonderful.

  7. I had to order two or three glasses of wine at a time at dinner. If I didn't no one was around to bring another glass when I wanted it. I was disappointed in the UBP because after the initial drink, I would barely be acknowledged by the bar attendant again. Please don't flame me.........this was my personal experience.

  8. Someone posted pictures on a facebook group of the construction today. They have the area curtained off and they wrote that blue lagoon is operating at different areas around the ship. Although I'm not sure what that means. They started this morning.

Is there a way you can tell me the FB group without breaking the rules. I'd like to see the pictures.

  9. Just off Gem this morning. Blue Lagoon as it was, Star bar still there.

There is some new furniture in the Spinnaker Lounger. Larger white seating areas that will hold many more than the funky furniture that was in there earlier.

There are areas that look like newer carpeting, and also areas where the carpeting needs replacement. Our beds were in very good condition.

I too was disappointed that drydock was postponed.

What about Moderno? Thanks for the info.

  11. I really don't think it is fair that they are working on the ship while we are sailing..I know they always have some things to do but to take away a restaurant that people enjoy going to is not fair..I think NCL should give the passengers something to make up for not having the Blue Lagoon while they are on the ship..They advertise this restaurant when we booked the cruise and now it won't be available..It just isn't fair..Who knows what else won't be available when we board next Saturday..Also will there be a lot of noise from the renovations? Just had to let everybody know how I feel..I will still enjoy our cruise but as you can tell I am annoyed..Thank you for listening..

I agree totally, no rock climbing wall for the kids, no Moderno and we're likely to have noise and confusion, if we had booked with this knowledge that would be one thing, but i bought the udp, thinking we could try all the specialties, I am disappointed, it won't ruin anything, but I think that some type of adjustment should be made. How about a discount on the udp that I paid full price for. Or even a small obc. I know they don't HAVE TO, but it would be a nice gesture. NCL still hasn't told the passengers that this is happening.

  13. @ Coka.....I know what you mean. I kinda wish I had known before booking that Moderno(and the rock climbing wall??) was going to be closed and that there would be that kind of construction on board. I got a great deal on the cabin, so I'm sure I would have booked anyway, but I really wish I had known beforehand. I just read about this here this week and I'm a tad bit disappointed. Won't let it bother me for long, but wonder why we couldn't have been told ahead of time.

  14. We are driving into NYC for a NCL cruise on 11/15. We are planning on driving most of the way on the 14th. We would like to stop about 1.5 to 2 hours from the pier and think that will be somewhere between Hartford and New Haven, CT on either I-91 or CT-15(Wilber Cross Parkway). We plan to take the parkway into the city. Anyone familiar with this area that could recommend a safe, clean(not too expensive) place to stay for the night of the 14th? Lots of places on internet sites, but I'd rather get some personal recommendations if possible. Thank you so much for your help!!!

  15. from what i've seen on here, it seems like the higher priced cabins don't drop that much, but what i'd try is checking your itinerary, if it leaves a week or two before you're planning to travel and see what the cabin prices look like for that sailing. Obviously, it depends on how many people are on your exact sailing, but usually within a few weeks (if there's no holiday), you'll see a decent prediction of what might happen to the prices for your sailing.

    great idea! Thanks.

  16. Does it seem like they usually drop the price on the lower priced cabins when you get close to sailing and there are lots of empty cabins or if the higher priced cabins are empty do they drop those prices too? I'm watching a sailing that is now 47 days away. Lots of higher level empty cabins, but the prices are just sitting there on all the cabins. I shouldn't book just yet (due to some scheduling issues that I'm trying to work out) . Does anyone think I should worry that NCL will offer upsells or guarantees these empty cabins and all of a sudden I won't see anything available? I check about 3 times a day!!!!! Thanks for your input.

  17. I'm curious if anyone knows why it might be that the Gem (sailing out of NYC) for 6 days in November and stopping in Florida and Nassau would have fees and charges $56.68 MORE per person than the Breakaway sailing on the exact same day for 7 days and stopping at GSC in addition to the same places the Gem is stopping. Probably this has been discussed before but I couldn't find it anywhere. Do you think its because the Breakaway is bigger and gets to divide set fees amongst more passengers?
