From research on the internet, which does not make me any kind of expert, I found a number of references to "Transverse bending Failure".  No reason for anyone to believe me, I am just guessing.  If I am right, no one will care.  If I am wrong, I expect to be flamed for needless speculation.  Such is life on the internet, but sometimes it's fun.

Thanks to you and your most educated speculation, I am now an “internet expert” on transverse bending failure, having just digested a PDF report detailing 3 previous drydock failures.

Another item checked off the bucket list.

July 14th?! Wow, my parents will travel on June 23rd, I was expecting that Oasis would be ok by that time. They are waiting for an oasis class ship to arrive to Europe since...ever! And my father will travel with his brother for the first time... I hope they can make it!

Now you have me worried about our June 2 sailing...

I think the refund and other accommodations are great, but when I think about it, it may not end up being the same value. Symphone is replacing Oasis in Port Canaveral. We booked a owners suite for April 7th as we always do. With Symphone being a bigger ship, our 100% value free cruise from Oasis may not be the same price on Symphony for an owners suite.

    As we ALWAYS do....poor you.

Since that is 2 months out, I would hope you will be OK for that... unless the damage to the underside is REALLY bad. I saw somewhere that Royal makes $8,000,000 per sailing. No way they want to lose that much money. They will have people working 24/7 once they get it into the dry dock.

    Fingers crossed.

We are booked on the May 12 sailing. Since we have flights to BCN and an apartment rented for 3 days before the cruise, we are still planning to go. If the cruise gets cancelled, we will take the refunded money and just book flights and hotels to see Florence, Rome and Naples. We would then fly back to BCN to get back to the US. It will be disappointing to miss the cruise, but we plan to make lemonade out of lemons.

We are in the same boat, err situation.

we are err were to board the June 2 sailing.

  6. Just got back from Maya chan and wanted to post a few quick items.. Also answer any questions if I can.

First off - they are very upfront about what to expect (Bumpy roads, sea grass on the beach and cloudier water). Their team could not have worked harder to greet everyone, make everyone feel at home, welcomed and taken care of! Great food - and lots of it, the drinks were flowing and plentiful! Lots of beach toys, paddleboards, kayaks, floaty chairs. The massages were a nice touch - $45 for an hour is super reasonable. I did see a Jellyfish while in the water so beware there but that's not really anything they can control. Snorkeling to the reef we were told wasn't recommended, was hoping to see some sea turtles or fish and that was the only thing we didn't. You didn't feel like you had a crowded area, everything was well managed!

As they said to us - if you're looking for the crystal blue waters, this isn't the place but if you're looking for a relaxing beach break - it was great. Last tip - DO NOT FORGET BUG SPRAY!

I don't understand all these rave reviews for Maya Chan.

    Brown Water?

    Tons of Sea Grass?

    Bugs?

I don't care how nice the owners are, that doesn't sound idyllic.

  7. There is absolutely no reason to change your currency in Mexico. You will lose more money on the exchange and exchange back, everyone takes dollars.

At roughly 20 pesos to the dollar, i just feel richer converting to pesos!

  8. I did this excursion through Carnival and had an unpleasant experience. When we arrived at the boat dock to get on the boat to go out to the ruins, I purposely bypassed the shopping and getting something to drink to be the first one on the boat so I could get a good seat to be able to see as I am short. The last people to get on were a couple and one sat next to me and the other across the aisle. The tour guide, Elvis, decided the couple should sit together and moved me from a seat where I could see the scenery to a place where the only thing I saw was the front wall of the boat, the sky and the back side of boat driver. The tour guide told me to sit on seat cushions which didn't change the view for me, just more of the same. Finally the couple said I should be back where I was originally sitting so I could see. The tour guide did move me back, but after that he harassed me as to "don't you trust me" ,"I never have had anyone not trust me" etc. The ruins were awesome, but the experience of the boat ride really soured me on this tour. Why would you move someone who worked hard to get on the boat by not doing fun stuff at the boat dock to be first to get a good seat and then after he moved me to an undesirable location where I saw nothing on the boat trip then harass me over the situation because I didn't 'like' the tour guide enough? For this reason I will never do this excursion again through the ship for fear I will get this same tour guide. I will stick with Shore excursion group to go to the ruins.

    "the ruins were awesome"

that's all I wanted to hear, disregarded the rest.

  9. Cash is better if you plan on shopping as you can get better price. Also necessary for taxis, tipping, small purchases etc.

DW is a shopper, so I bring 500.00+ and convert 1/2 to pesos.

    Vendors ALWAYS prefer cash.

  10. there are several websites that have tutorials if you need a little coaching- Roulette has a statisticlly high House Edge but is a fun game none the less- a dollar on a winning number wins $35! Roulette players all have their own system- watch for a few minutes and you will see what they do. Great entertainment as long as you consider losses as entertainment fees. Numerically though, it's all luck.

    I hit a number w 10.00 chip once.

    Once, lol

  11. This would work IF:

    1) There was no table limit (there is)

    2) You have infinite money (you don't, and sooner or later you will lose 8 times in a row)

    3) The odds of winning a red/black bet were 50% (they aren't, thanks to the green numbers)

The system you describe is called a Martingale system and it's doomed to fail like any other system.

The only beatable game in the casino is blackjack, and Carnival's rules make that unbeatable as well.

Refresh me on how Carnival Blackjack rules differ?

  12. Wait... here is the full message from John Heald. He shows the itinerary for 6/30. Is that the normal itinerary for 6/30?? Our western itinerary for 7/21 is different from what he shows below.

    From John Heald:

    Cheers

    John

    Yes.

That is the full scheduled itinerary!

    ROATAN has been SAVED!

  13. Just read this post by John Heald on another site:

"I have some good news for those of you sailing on one of my favorite ships the Carnival Magic on 6/30

    John Heald

    Awesome News!

(I figured if I whined enough, it would get fixed)

    :halo::halo:

  14. I'm almost thinking that going into drydock and getting it fixed once and for all and have one sailing canceled would be better than going on for months missing a port every sailing (if it needs drydock to get fixed). I guess it depends on if it's your sailing that gets canceled or not.

The ship is runnng at 62% speed, A/C issues, dropped ports. I'm not sure I want to even board it on Saturday, remembering the ship that lost all power and was adrift in the GOM for DAYS.

Carnival needs to come clean and offer 100% refunds and preferential rebookings to those who don't want to risk it.

  15. We liked it overall. We had anytime dining (just two of us). Two nights I think we waited about 15 minutes or so with a pager. We just took pictures and watched whatever was going on in the atrium. We were pleased with all the food with the exception of maybe a dish or two. We enjoyed our serving team the first night so requested to be in their section again the subsequent nights. One night we were tired and didn't feel like dressing up and waiting to be served so we just went to the lido.

was the ship noticeably slow on sea days?

  16. We were on the July 16th sailing! We were in room 8383 and the A/C worked just fine. It was also working very well in the MDR and Punchliner Comedy club because I had to wear a sweater. It seems like it was just the top floors experiencing issues.

The internet was the worse I have ever experienced. I wouldn't suggest paying for the plan.

    Thanks Kawana!
