  1. Sooo looking forward to your review (and any pics you might be able to include). We are in the exact suite in July!

Did you get to stop at GSC? How was the food? Oh...so many questions!!!:)

    Welcome home!!

We actually stayed on the ship during the stop at GSC. As I mentioned in my post, we enjoyed the room so much we sunned on the front balcony. It was also HEAVENLY in the Haven too!!

  2. Welcome back! I will look forward to hearing your review. Interesting comments about the Haven - I've been seeing this on a couple of reviews on various ships.

It must be hard when many of the suites are tagged as "family" cabins and yet NCL still continues to promote the Haven as "quiet and peaceful" space. The two don't necessarily go together. I like your idea of blocking certain times of the day for adult only and then allowing kids/families time to also enjoy the space (seeing that they too have paid for this perk).

I knew my comment was going to cause a stir both pro and con. I have children (grown now) and a grandchild so I understand taking kids on a cruise. Was never able to afford upper level rooms then though. They had a blast at the regular pool with a lot of other children. Anyway, unfortunately no, the Haven is far from a relaxing place. I couldn't read a book, nor could a few others who retreated to their rooms or balconies as I did to get some piece and quiet. Wasn't really fair since we're the ones who paid for the perks...

  3. There's a liquor menu on the dining room table when you first get to your room. Fill it out and have it ready for the butler when he comes to introduce him or her self. They bring your selections in time for evening cocktails. The fridge is already stocked with various soda and diet soda, also club soda and tonic water, all in cans. There's also a bottle of champagne chilled for ya. We spent a lot of time in our room because we enjoyed it sooooo much. Enjoy!!

PS. I took a pic of the bottle menu. Never posted a pic before but I'll try and figure it out. There's a pic floating around this board, I did a search and checked it out before we left for our cruise.

  4. Will post a review in a day or so. If you have the means certainly try one of the owners suites in the front of the Gem. Amazing room, butler and of course Carlos the concierge. The two balconies allow great views of the bow and side of the ship. The only negative, and I know this is a touchy issue but I've read reports on this is the past; children in the Haven. Most parents keep a close eye on their children to keep the noise and pool splashing to a minimum. Sadly, a few used the Haven as a day care center, placing a teen in charge of their kids or were just oblivious to their noise, splashing and leaving messes on the tables and around the pool. The swim club we belong to has a half hour adult swim every hour. How about this for the Haven pool??

  5. PiratePrincess; FYI, the username came from having three loving bulldogs that I get a chuckle out of every day. Didn't mean to have a "tone" in my post, it was simply an observation from reading tons of posts. Sometimes thoughts written come across differently than they do when spoken.

  6. Hey Mets, driving up to the pier this Saturday 5/24 for a cruise on the Gem. I see it's fleet week and there's tours of the navy ships beginning at 8am. Other than that do you think the city will be cleared out for Memorial Day weekend or lots of traffic for fleet week? Gonna come into town via the Lincoln Tunnel.

  7. Don't mean to but in on your question to Puddle, but I have the answer... Call the pre-concierge about 30 days prior to your cruise. They go over your reservation and handle any special requests you may have for the room (I asked for two buckets of ice) and what type pillows you'd like. They can also make dinner reservations if you choose specialty restraunts. The number is: 855-625-4283, have your reservation number handy to give to them.

Yes, is open when you board the ship and I feel Cagney's is much better food served in a calm and nice setting. It's very relaxing to have a nice meal (served to you) and a drink without dealing with the masses at the buffet pushing, butting in front of you and then fighting for a seat. Basically, some act like they haven't eaten in weeks...

  8. We were in a penthouse on the POA in August (2013). Upon arrival at the terminal we were escorted to the suite lounge for check in. There are light refreshments there. Some of the butlers came to the room to meet their clients for the week. When it was time for boarding, the suite level group was escorted on to the ship by the concierge ahead of the masses (we were the first 2 on the ship). Once on the ship you meet in the bar adjacent to Cagneys for a champagne toast and briefing about the "suite life". There were also people there to book dinner reservations or excursions. After this it's on to Cagneys for lunch. You can eat breakfast and lunch in Cagneys every day. There is no "concierge lounge" on the POA. The only other extra was a meet and great in the Library with the senior officers. The butler will do just about anything you ask of him or her ie., serve meals in your room or whatever else you may need. The butler will also bring snacks to your room every afternoon. We saw the concierge in Cagney's every morning. He was helpful with any question or need you may have. At the end of the cruise our butler escorted us off the ship when we wanted and ahead of the masses. Enjoy!

  9. Yes, I had 3 bullies at one time, unfortunately down to one now.... One lasted 12 years, which is the longest I've ever had of this breed. They're the most loyal and lova"bull" dogs I've ever had.

BTW, we were on the first cruise last August after the suites on the 12th floor were refurbished, so I'm confident the Lavazza is in the same place we left it.

There is one room between 12500 and the bridge. The captain stayed in this room, we saw him often. You can also look forward from the balcony and see the officers on the wing of the bridge. They always waved to us!
