  1. Totally agree with both camps here. Traveled in both and I love both for different reasons. For my current needs (not struggling with mobility, prefer being out on deck than small balcony, hubby's habits, traveling with friends) we've been booking OVs lately.

That being said, if the conditions were right for it, and we traveled alone (we have lately been traveling with groups of friends, which keep us out of our cabin for the majority of the time) we would definitely consider a balcony. That being said, that decision would weigh heavily on the time of year we were cruising. That's a plus of OV rooms, no matter the weather outside, its just what you like inside! :)

  2. These are all great recommendations! It's all about trying and seeing what works best with your body.

I've found a low carb - high protein diet works well for me and I've been doing that for the last few months in preparation for my June cruise.

I love to treat myself on a cruise so I definitely indulge, within reason.

Here are a few things I try to do:

Every time I'm at the buffet, start with a big salad and then go for carb laden items.

Avoid the dinner rolls/bread at dinner.

Try to start out the day with a protein filled breakfast to keep me fuller through the day.

I will be packing my go to snack, raw almonds and cherry tomatoes, in small ziplock bags for my purse so I'll never get too hangry :)

Hope it goes great on your cruise! and Eat Well!

  3. I hear you CruisermanVA and GMRPHRN.

It's a vicious cycle, our bodies hurt because of the weight and then it's harder to exercise and eat right. But I'm taking it slow and trying to be patient. Recovering from hip surgery is a marathon, not a sprint. But feeling a little better each day and focusing on that prize... Blue water in every direction!!! :)

  4. What a great thread!

I'm working hard exercising and eating clean to try to get back to my normal size. Had hip surgery last September and gained 40 pounds due to inability to move and care for myself. Finally back on my feet exercising regularly and eating clean on my own.

My cruise is 60 days away and I want to feel good and be healthy for it and not held back by my still recovering hip. We can do it!!!!

  5. Just as an additional note

Our friends and us are booked for a cruise in which final payment was due today. We had only done a deposit initially because the full price was incorrect and we were waiting for an adjustment. (We just booked a week ago)

We had paid but our friends hadn't and we received a call from a carnival rep reminding us that they hadn't paid. got it taken care of of over the website easily but I wouldn't want to wait until the last day either. However Carnival has always been so flexible in the past in my experience, I'm sure they'd make it happen for us if there were some technical difficulties for some reason in getting it paid in full.

  6. water for sure. at 3.99 a case its a no brainer to always have a bottle handy.

Also, since I began talking up cruising, many of my employees go on cruises, so when they submit their vacation time, I make it a point to find out where they're going, if it's carnival, or another cruise line, I typically order them either the bucket of beer, or some other gift with a "thank you for all you do at work" note.

What a great boss!!! Kudos! There's nothing better than finding a surprise in your room :)

  7. We heard the same rumor about once per day service but that turned out not to be the case on the Sunshine. We could still shower in the afternoon and the room and towels were straightened up by early evening.

Regarding tea, my wife is not a coffee drinker and could not believe that they only had lipton. First time ever she couldn't get a good tea on a cruise. So, all tea drinkers who want something like an English breakfast tea will need to pack their own for the week.

This is a good tip! I've transitioned from coffee to tea since my last cruise so I will pack a little kit to keep with me!

  8. This is all great info...

Me and the hubby and another couple are planning on doing Cheers for our upcoming cruise in June. I remember looking into the plan for previous cruise and it was too restrictive before.

Now, we are thinking of all four of us getting the Cheers program (we're in two cabins).

Here's my question: When I first read about the program, it seemed like each drink I ordered I would have to pay the 15% gratuity (that's normally added to the receipt automatically) in addition to the $49/day. But it seems like I just pay the 15% on the $49 and then the drinks are truly paid for right? (barring any additional tip I decide to leave)

Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks in advance!
