  1. Hi, that was quick! I've tested and it seems all ok - tried with an upgrade for only 3rd pax and also both 3rd/4th and all looks good! Many thanks.

Where I get myself confused staring at the figures after input is to determine if there is value to spend the extra (say from GoBetter to GoBest) to secure 2 extra perks. I don't normally allow for internet pricing - but if could pay only $50 pp more to Go Best then I'd be happy to use the free internet as a perk!

The catch here is that you are paying the same upgrade price for all pax, including the 3th/4th in the cabin. So need to keep in mind that if say for $150 you could upgrade to Go Best which had $320 more value in perks, for quad share you would effectively be paying $300 for that same $320 of value (as the upgrade fee would be paid by all pax, however the perks themselves are only extended to the first 2 passengers).

Not sure your calculator can show that (or needs to) but just how I tend to evaluate possible further value (if any) by upgrading to Go Best.

    Cheers!

Thanks for testing it! I do completely understand the question you're trying to answer. I think that it's a value proposition that may be different for everyone and may even be different from cruise to cruise for the same person. I felt like this at least gave me a way to see how the different perks interact with the final price - so that I can make that decision with a bit of a clearer picture.

Thank you niccikatie and rain_bowbrite for your help.

Unfortunately double clicking wasn't the issue. I am working on a PC but I don't know if that is the issue.

So I once again unlocked it and this time put the figures in manually. That seemed to work for the most part. The only issue I had was that it was taking the OBC off a one person fare. Perhaps I was supposed to enter in the cruise cost for 2 people in the cruise fare section? Anyways, that is what I did and everything calculated out correctly, so all is good. Thanks for all the work you went to for this niccikatie! you've made it all a lot easier for many of us.

So strange. It bugs me that it doesn't work for everyone, LOL! Yes, the OBC is kinda manual - you have to enter a price and then how many pax it is good for. I did that so that people who get OBC from their travel agent could also use the tool.

I'm glad it still worked for you in the end, though!

  2. Thanks so much for trying to help but inserting the password didn't make any difference. I had downloaded this without logging into drop box and when it didn't work, tried logging into drop box to download. Still no difference. I guess there must just be some setting on my computer or in Excel that just won't allow me to use the drop down boxes. The gratuities are set at Suite $17.00 and won't change; for the drink packages I can only right click and then with the option of 'pick from drop down list', I only can still go with Select One or Choose Bev Pkg here. I will keep looking to see if there is something I am missing, otherwise back to manually calculating. Thanks again for the help.

Oh no! I'm so sorry it's still not working. Once the document is unlocked, you could just enter the correct amounts in the white boxes. It will still pull them in correctly, but makes it a bit more manual.

You've probably already tried this, but are you double-clicking on the boxes? They weren't working for me either at first and I realized I was only clicking once, for me double-clicking the boxes made the dropdowns appear. I'm using Excel on a Mac (not sure that makes a difference).

I created it in Excel for Mac and don't have the same experience, but it could be a version thing, too. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

Regardless, I hope it gets working and I wish there were more that I could do to fix it!

  3. This would be great if I could get it to work. I was just calculating it out manually last week. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or missing something somewhere. I downloaded it to my computer but none of the drop down boxes work for me. I can input information in the appropriate boxes but no drop downs. Any ideas?

You know, one other person had that problem but they never wrote back if it resolved or not. I have the sheet locked to prevent inadvertent changing of the formulas or entering info where it doesn't belong. Try unlocking the sheet. The password is unlock.

  4. Nicely Done. I have two cruises booked that I am running the numbers on with your spreadsheet against the not as elegant calculations I had tried. Your work is much appreciated.

Thanks! I hope it helped you :)

Neat little tool. I have a quick guestimation technique I worked out when we were pricing out our last cruise. I've never been able to get a non-perk price at any significant discount, so I assume that I'll be getting at the minimum go big with the beverage package (has the most monetary and non-monetary value to me). I know that I'm going to pay gratuities either way and the 11.80 is worth it to me to upgrade the beverage package. So, I know that I'll be paying the base fare plus $25.30 extra pp per day as my starting point. So, just take the go big price minus 25.30 x the days of the trip. Then all I have to decide is whether or not the dollar amount leftover is worth unlimited internet and $150 OBC (only $150 since this is all for pp pricing) to me; Realistically, I won't be purchasing internet on it's own or spending $150 on the ship without the go best promo so those aren't worth face value to me.

On our next cruise, the go best price was originally an extra $410 pp for a 12 day cruise... So that was easy, an extra $107 was worth $150 OBC and internet. Now, we didn't choose it because we were actually able to get a discounted fare that took an extra $200 off the fare but wasn't combinable with go best (but it was with go big). Later, when they ran a different sale we wanted to try and upgrade to go best but the go best price was then an extra $540pp. Couldn't justify spending an extra $237 to get $150 OBC and internet.

Glad you found something that worked for you!

  5. Great tool! I did a similar exercise as a Drink Beverage Calculator to help people determine if a package is worth it vs paying as you go. Not perfect, but its good for a guide in general!

Back to your awesome calculator - one thing I've picked up is as I'm using the tool for a Quad Share basis, whilst the gratuities now reflects the extra cost for the 3/4th pax, in the GO BEST FARE option, the beverage upgrade is not reflected (which has been selected for the 3/4th pax in the "CHOOSE BEV PKG UPGRADE Here" section.

I believe even on GO BEST that the 3/4th pax still only get the classic non alcoholic package included, so any upgrade costs will still apply.

P.S. I'm impressed you've even allowed for 3/4th pax pricing! Brilliant for us as we still travel with the kids :-)

I used your other spreadsheet for a different cruise! It's very helpful!

Thanks for the input! That was a great catch! We sail with our daughter, so I wanted to be sure to get those 3/4th included. I've updated the spreadsheet to add the upgrade for pax 3/4 in the Go Best field. Would you mind testing it? You should be able to make all your selections and it will only take the upgrade price for 3+ pax in the go best line now (and it will only do it if you have more than 2 pax in the passengers field, so it shouldn't throw anything off for those sailing with less).

    Thanks again!

  6. You might want to post this question and do some homework on the Cozumel board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=210

5 ships is about average for Cozumel. You can book an all-inclusive place like Nachi Cocom that limits itself to 130 guests per day to ensure a quiet, relaxing, and un-crowded day at the beach for about $55 each.

Your other option is Paradise Beach - $3 admission, great facilities, nice beach, and HUGE pool. The place is so large it never gets overwhelmed - you can always find chairs/shade.

Both will be about a $17 cab ride each way (fare covers up to 4 passengers in the same cab, so pair up with others from your roll call ;))

We are huge Paradise Beach fans!! Easy to only pay for exactly what you want. Incredibly friendly and responsive staff. Barely any people coming up to you to buy things - really only henna tattoos in our experience. Clean(!!) bathrooms and changing rooms.

  7. The entrees in Aqua Spa cafe are not just the cold ones laid out beside th salad bar. You can order hot entrees off the menu. It's usually posted on the wall or on a stand near the entrance. They don't have many entrees and they rotate them. I like the Arctic Char, the Miso Salmon and the pork wrap. I think they do grilled chicken also but I have never had it. On embarkation day, we have always found it really quiet there. Enjoy

And they often have deviled eggs that you can request as well. They were delicious!

  8. The GoBig/GoBetter/GoBest "perks" are really a three tiered pricing structure. The more "perks" the higher the cost. GoBig gets you one "perk", GoBetter gets you two "perks", and GoBest gets you all four "perks" and upgrades the drink package from Classic to Premium. It's akin to "value sizing" a meal at a fast food restaraunt.

The "base" price for any given cruise is the GoBig pricing. GoBetter is $15 per guest per day more than GoBig. GoBest is $45 per guest per day more than GoBig. That upcharge is calculated on the prevailing "base" rate on the day you book. The "base" rate fluctuates frequently.

Example: 7nt cruise per guest before tax - GoBig $1000, Go Better (GoBig + $105 = $1105), GoBest (GoBig + $315 = $1315). If a month later the base price for GoBig is $1250, then GoBetter would be $1355, and GoBest would be $1565. A month after that the base price could drop to $850, so GoBetter would be $955 and GoBest would be $1165. The upcharge remains constant, though the "base" fare will fluctuate up or down.

The above rates are for bookings made in USD, so not sure how that translates to AUD, but it will be a similar formula. Simply divide the exact GoBest surcharge by the number of days in your cruise to see what the actual per day surcharge is.

To compare pricing simply price out the cruise at the current GoBest rate, or if that's not readily available then price at current the GoBig rate and add the GoBest surcharge to get the current GoBest rate.

If booked in USD the booking can be refared up to final payment date if the price drops. Not sure if that is possible for bookings made in AUD, or if you would have to cancel and rebook (possibly forfeiting deposit) to take advantage of the lower rate.

Be careful with the part I bolded above. While I agree this is generally true, when I booked a cruise in Sept 2016, the up charge was less for some inexplicable reason. So, you should always look at the cost to upgrade when presented with the perk selection screen. Sometimes a discount can be found there. Now, that doesn't apply to the OP since Go Best is bundled into Suite fares anyway.

I created a spreadsheet to help myself choose between GoBBB promotions. I've shared it here on other threads and people seem to like it, so I will share it here, too! It helps you quickly decipher the actual value of perks to you and make a decision that fits with your budget. There is a spot for "base" fare and that would be the fare without perks if you have a resident or senior discount offered. Otherwise, you can leave that field blank.

  9. Okay - so this is interesting.

These were my options when I originally booked my March 2017 cruise in Sept 2016:

    GBBB_zpsjkof2srz.jpg

When I go look at the same cruise now these are the options:

    initial%20options_zpsbtu2kaeh.jpg

And when you click see details they show both bev packages:

    see%20details_zpscmrbyflx.jpg

But, when you click "select" on the Go Best option you get this:

    options_zps2erlejtz.jpg

So, if you booked "Go Best" and have the CL showing up in your Bev package, I would call until you got someone to change it to Premium. They may be changing the entitlements or it just may be a web programming error. Either way, I'd get the premium confirmed while you can.

  10. I would call - I just booked an early 2018 cruise on the equinox a week or two ago and the big-better-best option didn't show up (but it did for the same itinerary on the Silhouette) and she was able to add best. I went and looked at my booking and this is what it shows for the promotions (+$300 OBC lower down). The math for the drinks is $65/person/night - so the premium package.

    PROMO2P $-910.00

    BEVPRINGRAT $910.00

    WIFI 7N $398.00

    PROMO4UW7N $-398.00

    PROMO3T $-196.00

Yes, what you're looking for here is the PR that I've bolded above. That indicates the premium beverage package. When it's the classic it will usually be CL instead.

  11. Senior + Tax =1046+98 tips + 225 drinks = 1369

    Senior +300 OBC = 1146 +98 +225-150 = 1319

    2Perks Classic + 150 OBC = 1251 +98 -150 = 1199

    2Perks Premium+ 150 OBC = 1251+98+82-150 = 1281

    4Perks = 1461

These are for one person. 98 Tips,225 Drinks estimate, 150 OBC, 82 Premium upgrade.

Plug your numbers into my spreadsheet and the comparison math will all be done for you :)

  12. West palm beach has a airport, my brother who has lived in south Florida for 25 years also. Then there's Orlando and Tampa if you could get there.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Yes, definitely check West Palm and Miami. We went in 2015 from MSP to PBI at a similar time and tickets were $200pp less than FLL. We took a private car from PBI to hotel and then port to PBI and it was about $400 total both ways for 6 people, so still MUCH less than flying in to FLL.

  13. Can I get some advise for my Summit cruise in April? I too have the classic pkg for my daughters room. One will be 21 the other only 19, what will come of my 19 year old drink package? Will it revert to just the soda pkg or will they let us get the premium N/A pkg? Any experience with this? I can log into their reservation and see the drink package is attached but will Celebrity notice this or will she maybe get to keep the classic? They don't drink at all right now but want that package for all the different types of non alcoholic drinks.

From my experience it will be the classic NA package. We had my daughter (who was 10 at the time) booked as the 2nd person and my Mom as the 3rd and they both got classic NA per 123 go at the time. I was able to see it in my order history in cruise planner. I called and switched the order of the passengers and my Mom then had the classic alcoholic package.

  14. I have not seen X is giving better pricing under any new promotion than it is already out, unless it is after final payment and sailing is not selling...;)They just put different frosting on the same yellow cake.

Not true for this cruise for me. I originally booked in Sept under 2nd pax 50% off. Then there was a mid-promotion price drop of about $50pp. Then, the celebrity insider sale where I saved another $150pp. Then, I moved from 1A to C2 (at the C3 price for Captain's Club) when I realized that I could save another $100pp and still get my hump cabin. So, for 2 adults we're down $600 from my original booking on Sept 3rd. According to a price tracking site, the prices I have are the lowest they've been since the sailing went live.

Now, with this "sale", the prices are back up to the Sept 3rd pricing PLUS about $200.

My point is: for me it's totally paid to watch the prices and re-price when new promotions come out. It might not always be the case, but since it only takes 5 minutes or so to get the price drop, it's worth my time.
