  1. We were able to change our SW flight from Sunday at 1 PM to Monday at 11 AM from Hobby straight thru' to OKC . SW has no change fees, but does charge whatever the fare difference is. We were not charged the extra fare due to this being a circumstance over which we had no control. I heard a couple of horror stories about AA while still on board Liberty. We were off about 3:15 with suites and Pinnacles. Glad to hear that LB got away last night late. I was concerned that she might not get out of port until later today. We know that fog is common this time of year, but this was our first problem with debarkation. The Windjammer was open for lunch as well as Cafe Promenade and Sorrento's. The back to back people and Pinnacles were offered their usual lunch in the dining room. So there were many food choices. But of course lines for the two places on the Promenade had long lines. Good to hear about the $25 OBC. We were delayed boarding once several years ago and were given $20 OBC back then.

Hi, we were on the same ship and flew Southwest as well, but we had to pay the extra fare? I told them what had happened also. How did you get them to do that? We had to pay like $650 extra. Should I call them to see if they'll refund it?

    Thanks,

    Diane

  2. We originally had a 12:30 p.m. flight schedule out of Hobby but after seeing all the info on fog, changed it to 5 p.m. And we rented a car for the week instead of shuttle here, Uber there, etc....then we are in control and can get to where we want to go when we want to go and it wasn't any more expensive than using a service to and from the airport to the hotel, to the port, to the airport, etc. We'll just go to the space center assuming there's no fog and we can take our time. Problem solved.

  3. Also on this Sunday! Did you sign up for the meet and mingle?

    Cathy

Yup, sure did Cathy -- can't wait to meet everyone. We also will make a swing by the Solarium bar around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday since some others on here will be hanging out for an informal get together. I'll probably be wearing an Indian Motorcycle shirt of some sort and jeans since it's not supposed to be real warm, and perhaps even raining. :-) I don't care as long as I'm not here in Minneapolis where it's cold and snowy.

I look forward to meeting you!

  4. Going to be on Liberty of the Seas on Valentine Day and was wondering if they have anything special for the evening meal or on the Ship ?

    Thanks

Hi, I did notice on the "Planner" that they ARE doing specialty restaurant Valentine's Day things you can purchase that are above the regular specialty restaurant pricing and includes special bubbly, dessert, menu specials, etc. I think at Chops and Giovanni's.

I don't know of anything in the regular dining room though. We'll be on board with you!

  5. Having sailed in aft cabins on a number of Grand Class ships, you must take into account the noise factor from Club Fusion since the bandstand is directly below that cabin. It would be much less a factor in the Vista Suite. It doesn't bother some, and for others it is a real issue, so that would depend on you.

ECCruise, thank you for the info. We just be the ones in Club Fusion at night so hopefully wouldn't be an issue for us. :-)

  6. Hi fellow cruisers,

Just looking for some opinions to help me decide which cabin to do for Alaska in September roundtrip from Seattle. I have both on hold until tomorrow so I need to make a final decision today. First time to Alaska, 4th time on Princess, 13 cruise overall. Only hubby and me.

That E730 is the last port covered mini-suite on the Ruby and highly coveted due to the larger mini-suite balcony since it's on the end. Our other option is the Aft E733 Vista Suite which is $1,800 more than the mini-suite. The money is important, of course, but it is our first time to Alaska and we do like suites and all that comes with it. But perhaps the mini-suite with the larger balcony would be good enough? We do love spending time on our balcony as well as the extra room of a larger cabin.

Just looking for opinions of those who've perhaps had the same experience of choosing and why they did what they did. Thanks all!

  7. Hi everyone,

I've been reading this thread with great interest. I'm one of the OCD types. I LOVE planning and all the details. When we went to the Mediterranean last year on Carnival's then-new Vista, it was our first trip to Europe and we started in Greece and well, it was all Greek to me, but! It wasn't as stressful as I thought it'd be. Why? Because I had researched, planned, and then enjoyed every minute of it.

One of our CC members on a cruise from 5 years ago had a great spreadsheet she shared with us and I've been using it ever since. We'll be on our 11th cruise in February and have 2 more lined up, but I still like to use this spreadsheet to ensure I have everything covered. I admire those who can "shoot from the hip" and just "wing it" but there are a lot of us who just aren't wired that way -- me included.

So, I'm including the spreadsheet here and feel free to use as much or as little of the 7 tabs on it as you so choose. I'm working on one now for our February cruise. When I'm done I print each tab out and include it in my cruise folder but also take pictures of each tab just in case. Yup, I'm just that kind of gal. :-)

  8. Saturday night we purchased the Voom 2 device package for our Sept 10th Oasis sailing. It was advertised as 30% off with a total of $179. Today I log in and check pricing just for giggles. Well guess what it's still advertised as 30% off but it's cheaper. Dropped it in the cart $156. Definitely pays to check every day.

So here's my question: If I call will they just credit the difference or do I have to purchase and then return the first one?

    Thanks, Maria

Last time I had that happen, I canceled the prior one and paid for the new priced one. :-)

  9. Have used romeinlimo many times. Great. They can also provide a guide for the Vatican which allows you to skip the lines and have some insight to the amazing art therein. I recommend them to all my friends traveling to Rome.

Yup, awesome tours. We did tours with them in Naples, Rome and Livorno (for Pisa and Florence). Can't recommend them enough.

  10. I just booked this for December 6, 2018 as a retirement gift to myself! I was very excited to find this thread. Neither my hubby nor I have ever been to the Southern Caribbean so we are looking forward to visiting all the new ports! Thanks for the great info thus far...

    Joanne,

You are in for a treat! It's a fabulous itinerary. It'll be our 2nd time for this itinerary, 2nd time on this ship but different itinerary and before it was refurbushed.

  11. Good question! I was wondering the same!

    Hi,

The Taxi Form is just a form they fill out for you before you catch your cab as the taxis are regulated. So there will be many different taxi companies sitting out there and they just line up and the taxi people who are directing it all, fill out the form and ask you where you are going, then write down what the fare will be so you don't get ripped off. They have set rates from the different zones around the area. It's to keep the taxi drivers honest, I guess.

  12. For those of you who have flown into San Juan recently, do you still get a taxi form from the agent in the baggage area?

    Hi Pmelba,

Yes, you still do that. Sometimes the line looks long but it didn't take but 15 minutes to catch a cab. We were in San Juan (2nd time) in March but on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas, but we have been on the Dawn before but out of New Orleans. And that was before the refurb. :-)

  13. Vancouver. (Probably a shorter flight home a the end of the 3 days.)

After spending a week on a cruise, I'm not sure I would want to go on a Kenai Fjords cruise.

(I would however consider one of the ones near Vancouver that might see orcas.)

I have 2 flight tours planned on my cruise, so again, I'm not sure I would want to do another flight. (Unless it was at Denali - but then I would be adding on 7 days minimum, not 3)

I'm sure in either location you could find enough to do...

    Hi Calico Cat,

We are actually starting out in Alaska going southbound, so I'm thinking we might go 3 days earlier to do more things out of Alaska rather than Vancouver on the end. :-)

  14. Thank you Coral, we are cruising southbound, so we'd probably stay in Anchorage but venture out to do things. I know Anchorage is pretty small. We'd do day trips/tours, so perhaps Seward would be the place to stay instead and then just go to Whittier to hop on the ship?

We like doing a variety of things. I like outdoors - whale watching, nature but I also enjoy museums, etc. I can see that doing 3 days pre-cruise in Alaska might be the ticket instead of 3 days post-cruise in Vancouver.
