Good to hear cls.711. I have a retreat cabana booked for my next cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam on March 27th. So, looking forward to it!
-
I was on the Noordam for a 10 day Southern Caribbean cruise last March. I would recommend it. Actually, I was hoping it was on the 11 day Southern Wayfarer this year, but it is not. It is sort of equal to the Nieuw Amsterdam less the Tamarind dining experience. As long as there is a Queens Lounge and a BB King group on board - I'm there !;)

As everyone is telling you, a 7:30 AM flight is impossible. If you disembark dragging your own luggage at the earliest possible time, I would do any flight 10:00 am or later to be sure to make a flight. Good luck! :)

This is my favorite stop in the Caribbean with HAL. Every cruise I book must include her. I never understand why people knock the islands which are basically beach locations - if you are not beach people why are you on a Caribbean cruise ????

Ships don't get sick; people do.
Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands AND
Keep those hands away from your face. Don't touch your eyes, nose, mouth...... No portals into your body means you do not contract Noro. You not only have to touch something that is 'dirty' but you have put those dirty hands to your face or open wound.
I totally agree with Sail7Seas. Wash those hands constantly and keep them away from your eyes, nose, and month!!!!! ;)

Thanks for all the threads concerning the retreat cabanas. They were very helpful. One question, though - if you take the cabana for the full 7-day cruise and do not plan on using it on a particular day, can you notify the front desk and see if they can sell it for that day - in turn receive some sort of credit back on your on board account if they do sell it?

Can anyone give me some information about the Cabana Club on Deck 11? Thanks.

Disembarkment from Eurodam on Jan. 14th was a nightmare. Since I was not flying out after the cruise, I got one of the later times to disembark. There was much confusion near the exit area. Seems there was only two immigration agents on duty which caused the back-up of people disembarking. I, along with others I knew from the cruise, disembarked before our time since everything was running very late, we simply told the lady at the exit point we were whatever color she was calling. Once off the ship and getting my luggage, the line to go through immigration was nine lines long, each being say 150 feet long. Just before getting to the end, they opened another station of immigration officers. Since you are doing a private car service, I would figure 10:00 am or later.

Anyone sailing solo on this cruise. I'm a young at heart 67 yrs. old. This will will be my 7th solo cruise.:)
-
Its a gated beach and safe. As you exit the welcome center walk to your left if you are at the main pier. If you dock at the industrial pier I would take a cab. No pesty vendors when we were there.:)
Thanks for the info. What cruise line were you on? I'm on Holland America and don't know what pier we will dock on.

Turtle Beach is just to the left of the main pier, you can see it from the ship. Admission to the fenced in beach is 2.00, chairs, food, drinks are available.

Is this Turtle Beach safe to go to, a woman traveling alone? Also, do the locals bother you to buy their wares here? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone ever used the company "Island Tours" while visiting St. Thomas? If so, any comments on them would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.:o

hi
although a solo traveller, i'm very keen to try some of the speciality restaurants on the oasis of the seas. Any other solos tried the non main dining room restaurants and what's it like in them, being a solo?
i did five nights of my 7 day cruise on hal recently in specialty restaurants. I was always seated at a table for two and treated very well. The other two nights of my cruise i teamed up with two very nice ladies i met at solo meet and greets.

i'm an experienced cruiser, but i'm now having second thoughts that i can go through with cruising alone. I would hope that i meet others on the cruise that i could dine with, etc. But that's no guarantee. Carnival's solo rates are very good and i need to be on a beach but i'm thinking about canceling and rescheduling for next year when someone else could go. Also, there will be a newer ship (the liberty) doing the same itinerary next year.
I purchased the insurance so i would get 75% back as a credit. Any advice is appreciated.
dear african violet - i have just come back from a holland america western caribbean cruise on which i traveled solo for the first time. I had a great time. Go to the solo/single meet and greets. I met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Do it - i don't think you'll regret it.

Hello Fellow New Jersey Resident -
Though I am not going to be on your cruise - I will also be cruising solo on Nov. 10 - HA - Eurodam. Only my second cruise - last time with a relative. I am looking forward to doing what I want - when I want! Love the sun - so I can be happy just sitting, reading, & people watching. Hope you have a great time on the Breakway.

My target date is very close to yours - Apr. 11, 2014. Been counting down since Sept. 2010. What does that say!

Hi everyone!
This will only be my second cruise. I am a young-at-heart mid 60's lady. Have done solo land vacations, but this is my first solo cruise. Hope all goes well. :)
Room Service in Cabanas?
in Holland America Line

I was told by the HAL representative that you could not choose the cabana you would like. She said the on-board ship rep assigns them. This contradicts what I am hearing on this thread. ???????
