  1. Just something the next cruise guy (who was VERY cute) told us.....

The Navigator will be in Galveston next year. The transatlantic usually departs to Europe (or Asia or wherever) in late April. From what this guy told us, the Navigator is not scheduled to leave then - - - maybe, maybe, maybe a ship year-round in Galveston??? He said the Texas market is amazing with ships always sailing full.....

All we can do is hope!!

He is technically telling you the truth... Navigator is not scheduled to leave then. But then again none of the transatlantic's have been released yet.

So by his reasoning, are we to believe that there will be no European cruises in the summer of 2014?:rolleyes:

I would LOVE to have a RCI ship in Galveston year round, but I'm not holding my breath.

  2. News Flash -- we just booked 1732. But since I've done that I understand that it overlooks the basketball court, flowrider, and mini golf before looking out at the wake. So, I hope I did the right thing by booking this.

Looks more like you will be over the boardwalk down on deck 6. You will have great views of the zipline and aquatheater.

  3. Ok, another question...on the Voyager class deck plans there is a blank space next to these cabins, do you happen to remember what is there? I don't think it's bothersome as no one reports anything but pure joy about these cabins, but thought I'd ask:D

The blank area next to 7688 is a crew stairwell. We never had any noise at all from it. Our last Voyager cruise we had both 1688 & 7688 and we used these stairs to easily get between our cabins. Didn't appear to be a high traffic crew area. Think I only saw 2-3 crew members for the entire week.

Glad to see this thread resurrected... One of my favorites!

  4. We used them in February. We used them for both ends of the trip. It was great and we didn't have any problems. It was nice being able to walk around NOLA and not have to worry about our luggage. It was a little difficult to find them because the baggage claim area is under construction. Also, the place you dropped it off was call Rush It courier service. Rush It and Advance Check-In are the same company.

We had a late flight out of NOLA, so this let us enjoy our day without worrying about luggage. I knew we were going to use them ahead of time, but did not make any reservations with them. Just stopped by and dropped off our bags.

The best part about using them on the front end of the trip was that once we claimed our bags and gave it to Advance Check-in we didn't have to worry or see our bags until we got to our room. Had an early flight into NOLA so we just had a cab drop us off at Cafe DuMonde and then leisurely walked to the cruise terminal. Easiest boarding ever, 20 minutes from the time we walked into terminal until we were on ship by 11:45!

  5. On our last cruise we had both 1688 and 7688 on the Voyager. As far as the room goes, 1688 can not be beat for the money!

I would not recommend 7688 with 3 people if 1688 is an option.

The only drawback I can think of for 1688 was the automatic window washers for the windjammer just above. Every morning around 9 or so, they would wash the windows and water would come pouring onto the balcony. This wasn't a huge deal, but something that deserves mentioning!

Going forward, we probably will only book a cruise if one of these rooms are available or at a minimum a deck 10 aft cabin. (1692 was great as well!)

  6. After just boarding a Carnival ship observed a family board with buckets (more than 1) of Kentucky Fried Chicken. With all of the food on board I found it strange to see them bringing on more food, but I don't recall ever seeing "fried chicken" on any of my cruises.

    No big mystery.

Everyone knows that the Colonel does chicken right.;)

There is a certain Carnival cruise director (Ralph) than has an affinity for KFC. It is very common for fellow CCer's to bring some back to the ship for him. My last cruise on the Conquest HostMach asked us to do so.

Maybe this is what you were witnessing?

  7. We just did this last week, it was lots of fun for sure... but the maintenance of the Xrails was awful. Out of the 8 Xrails on our tour, three broke down along the way.

This is obviously not uncommon since the mechanic followed us and went back and brought different Xrails to us when they were un-repairable! We had planned to be able to shop in the afternoon but the breakdowns really delayed us. Our tour was supposed to be over before noon but we didn't make it back to the ship until almost 2:00.

Even with the technical difficulties, we would do it again. My word of advice would be to bring clothes that you don't mind possibly throwing away and bring a change of clothes. They do have outdoor showers to rinse off and bathrooms to change in. There are also lockers there for rent which we were not clear on before we went. I believe the lockers were $4 and they were huge.

Caverns were nice, but we did not get in since it had been cool and windy that day. Did get some nice photos of them.

We were prepared to get muddy, so we brought 2 gallon Ziploc's to place our muddy clothes in afterwards. We also wore water sandals even though it said to wear closed toe shoes. The guide told us it was fine and we were glad we brought them!

  8. Could you please explain how you were able to access the deck plans with your phone in airplane mode? I downloaded the RCI ap and found the plans, but I cannot get them to stay in my phones memory for use off line. Or maybe you are referring to a different application? Thanks.

Shipmate stores the deck plans on your phone, the other RCI app uses the web so it can't be accessed in airplane mode.
