Can you please tell me the date this promotion begins?

  3. Never tried this personally but from what I've heard from others here, the wifi signal is not normally strong enough/consistent enough to allow quality voice chatting with any app, FB/Skype etc...

Thanks, I was recently on the Regal Princess and found we were able to not only call but had capability to video chat. That was the first time we tried contacting those at home (new grandson born as we were traveling to ship). And this time I'm leaving DH home;).

  4. We stayed there in November and found accommodations to be as expected. Staff was friendly and courteous; we arrived a bit before check in time but our rooms were ready. We had marina rooms which we enjoyed. We did not use any of the other facilities. I had prepaid through priceline and was concerned before our trip when I heard of the change from Hyatt. I called on three different occasions to confirm we had rooms, finally the last call convinced me that yes our reservation was good. They did offer a shuttle service to the pier, if my memory is correct it was $7 pp.

  5. Anyone that has been on the Regal recently.

What time were the rooms available? Are they still not opening up until 1:30 or so? I know this is not the norm for other Princess ships

We will be embarking on the Regal in Brooklyn the last of September. I'm wondering if anyone has recent experience with what time we can go to our staterooms. Each time we have sailed Regal or Royal we have waited until at least 1 p.m. before we could go to our stateroom.

    Thanks

  6. Do you just want to see the 911 Memorial or do you want to buy 911 Memorial museum tickets? The Memorial is open until 9 pm and you should do that on Friday evening without luggage. Let me ask please, we can go to the 911 Memorial until 9 p.m.? I thought it closed earlier. Is this the one with the $24 entry fee? I've been a bit confused on that and the 911 Tribute with a different entry fee.

The Hoho would be fine earlier on Friday. Your hotel is close to the 47-50th Rockefeller Center subway stop where you can take any train downtown to W 4th St and transfer to the E train to the World Trade Center. Do I understand correctly that the HOHO does not allow us to HOHO at the 911 Memorial?

No subway to the pier. Take a cab or car service. If you're interested in the MBTA ferry to the Red Hook pier from Wall St Pier 11, we can provide more details. I think we'll take cab or car service here.

Also do some research to narrow down the things you really want to do and see. For example, do you want to go up the Empire State or the Top of the Rock or the Freedom Tower? The first two are close to your hotel and could be done first thing Sat morning. Also Times Square is a short walk from your hotel. I think we may like to go to Top of the Rock or the Empire State, leaning toward the Top of the Rock.... certainly open to recommendations.

Another thing we are thinking of doing is riding the HOHO for a night tour. Is this worthwhile if we have rode during the day?

I appreciate your help with my planning....I think I'm driving my DH a bit crazy with this.

  7. We will be arriving LGA on Friday, September 29, shortly after 10 a.m. We have reservations at Cambria Suites located at 30 W 46th Street (unless we find a better option on hotwire/priceline). The hotel recommends a taxi to the hotel. We will be going to the Brooklyn pier the next day. We hope to do a HOHO the day we arrive.... and maybe do some sightseeing the morning before going to the pier. Any recommendations of what we should try to see first? We would like to see 9/11 memorial but that is not a must-do. Looking for best transportation to get to here. This is a first-time visit to New York. Also, the hotel recommended subway to get to pier. I am not sure I like this recommendation. Any thoughts?

  8. Something I thought of after I posted. In my experience, most cruise ships depart Newport after sunset. So another reason to stay where you are.

I tried to determine when and with whom your cruise is, but you haven't joined the roll call.

Thanks for the additional thoughts. We are sailing on the September 30 Regal Princess. We are in Newport on October 1 from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  9. As you depart Newport, the starboard side will be facing Conanicut Island. There aren't mansions there. You will pass Beavertail Light at the south end of the island as you enter the southern end of Narragansett Bay. You also see Point Judith LIght and beaches in the distance.

If you are in a starboard cabin now, why not get up early and catch the sights as you approach Newport?

    SBtSs

Thanks so much for your input. Appreciate your suggestion, may do that since we are happy with the current cabin.

  10. Can anyone tell me if there is a view starboard side as you sail away from Newport, RI? We currently are booked in a starboard cabin and I just realized that the last time we sailed from there we had a port side cabin and was able to see all the mansions along the shore. While I know we can go up on the top deck we enjoyed not having to carry cameras but being able to have them handy when we wanted to take a picture of something.... on our own balcony. If the view is open ocean we may try to change to the port side. Appreciate any comments or thoughts.

  11. Saint Greg - a huge THANK YOU for your assistance on hotels. After reading your posts I was able to find a hotel I felt comfortable with for our pre-cruise - Hilton Riverside through Hotwire.
