  1. Need some opinions:

Flying from LAX to Tahiti, would you upgrade to Air France Premium Economy or is regular economy on Air Tahiti Nu ok if you pad the seat. I'm not overly tall (5.5) and about average weight.

I have read so many reviews about how awful ATN is.. sort of concerned.

For those of you that have traveled ATN since they redid the cabins, your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Also, I plan on taking the red-eye and trying to sleep. I have a great travel pillow.

    Thanks a million.

    Jill

  2. I´m about to book a 10-day South Pacific cruise in December 2015 on Royal Caribbeans Legend of the Seas.

I would now need all your advice on the cabins, we are going for a balcony-cabin, what should be considered on this ship? Are there any best avoided cabins or any really great ones? What deck is the best according to you?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rebecca

We had an aft balcony cabin and we loved it.

  3. We were recently on the Ocean Princess for a very long cruise through Asia and Africa. It's a small casino and the passenger demographic didn't lend itself to much action at the casino. Minimums at the tables dropped (handwritten signs) to $3. That was a lot more fun.

Thank you!!!! I think I can afford that!:D

  4. Oooh that must've of been a frightening experience. I'm sure you won't have such a nerve wracking experience with paddle boarding :), if you do feel a tad tired after climbing back on, just rest on your knees for awhile before trying to stand up again. Also remember, that you won't have to climb as high, you could almost just reach an arm out over to the other side of your paddleboard and slide yourself on.

That is true. I'm sure the paddle board is easier......Thanks Kiwigirl!

  5. Just wondering if anyone know how Carnival interprets this....

The question: I was only a sail or two away from Platinum in the previous recognition program......

Answer:We understand the investments guests have made over the years, and we’d like to thank and acknowledge guests who were near advancement in the previous program.

Any guest that sails at least 10 times by December 31, 2013, will be grandfathered into the Platinum level under the old program rules.

And, once a guest begins his/her 10th sailing, s/he will be considered Platinum in the new program on that 10th sailing.

Do you interpret that to mean you needed to sail that 10th sailing prior to

December 31, 2013? Or that once you start your 10th cruise, you are platinum?

    Thanks,

    Jill

  6. That's the spirit! :D By the way, your fear of falling off and having to haul yourself back on might actually work in your favor. My instructor asked us if we'd like to try standing up for the first time near an area where at least 20 construction workers who were building a new apartment complex were eating lunch. They all made a lot of noise (apparently it was encouragement but I tuned them out and focused) and so I was determined not to fall off and have to haul myself back onto my board in front of an audience. :p I could imagine them betting if I or my father would fall in ha ha.

Good one kiwigirl! Nothing like a little motivation to keep you 'upright'. LOL

I do have nightmares thinking about trying to haul myself up onto a wave runner, in deep water, a few years ago but that was before rotator cuff surgery. So hopefully, I have more arm strength now.

  7. Hi Jill. I'll be honest I was quite nervous before my first paddle boarding lesson :o but my fears were unwarranted as I managed to get to the end of my 1 hour lesson without falling into the harbor once. I thought I'd spend more time in the water than on my board.

To be honest, the hardest part is transitioning from your knees to standing up (there's no pressure to stand up) without falling in, however when you rent a paddleboard your instructor or sales assistant should give you a few tips on technique which will give you a greater chance of staying dry. As an example, a lot of people lean over and move too slowly and as a result fall in as their center of gravity isn't balanced. Instead put one foot where one of your hands was and carefully stand up making sure to keep your back straight and to resist the urge to hunch over.

Once your standing up your legs may shake a little (apparently this is a natural reaction). If this happens make sure not to lock your knees and within a minute or two paddle boarding will become a more relaxing, pleasant experience. ;) Have fun! :D If you fall in it doesn't matter as long as you get back on your board again. By the way I found that the view you get from paddle boarding is even better than the view you'd get from kayaking.

Thank you! I am really looking forward to trying it. Honestly, the thing that worries me the most is having to get back on the board if I fall in. I'm thinking that may not be a thing of beauty. LOL But it won't stop me from trying this.

  8. Answers to your questions Twin:

twin123185: What was it like staying on the ship? Where did you eat?

Were you able to get off and go walk around and come back? Did you take your carryon with you or would they hold that while you went ashore? (Of course we would carry valuables)

Do you remember how they had you meet and take you off at 6pm?

Any logistics of that day would be wonderful! Thank you!

I found a fairly recent review of Ocean Princess and there are comments on how the transfers at the end of the cruise are handled:

    MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH, 2013 - DISEMBARKATION

While were allowed to remain on the ship until 7pm, we had to vacate our suite by 8am to allow the room attendants time to prepare for the next batch of passengers. I did not like the thought of someone else being in “our” room. Our bags were picked up outside our room door the night before and were being stored and watched over by security in a tent on the pier. Our hand luggage was checked at Sabatini’s for the day.

It also includes photos of all the Princess Patters for cruise

  9. I second that I have gained so much information following CC over the past several years which has added to my cruise experiences. I have a question I think that somewhat fits into this discussion regarding long overnights flights. In a few weeks we will be flying to Tahiti from LAX leaving at midnight and arriving around 6 am in Papeete. I have been researching travel pillows for the trip on Amazon and have found a few that look like they would help a "non-airplane sleeper" sleep. My one issue is being able to also use my noise cancelling headset while using a sleep pillow. If anyone has a suggestion I would love to hear from you.

    Thanks' date='

Have you found a pillow? I'd like to see a picture. Will be looking for one myself at some point next year.

  10. I know that most people like the HIlton but my favourite is the Sofitel at Temae Beach.

If you find the prices here too high then you can consider the Pearl who always have deals but not the best beach and also Les Tipannier who have housekeeping cottages,

    Thank you!!
