  1. 1995 on Carnival-My parents sent me, who graduated from college, and my sister, who graduated from HS as our graduation gift! :o;p:'):') My upcoming cruise will be my 6th cruise but first with RCI.

We took our first Disney cruise back in 2010 on the Disney Wonder. I found a 3 night cruise for $750 (oceanview cabin on 5th deck) that included soda for my family of 4. Unheard of now!

  2. Hi there,

I have two ocean view cabins on deck 6 (Category 6N) that look like a bread box. I am considering moving to a 2M category which is essentially a wash with the current RCI sale. The new cabin is on deck 9 and is 155 sq ft. vs. 122 sq ft. bread box so a bit more spacious. However, I am beginning to wonder why so many of those cabins are vacant.

Can anyone share some perspective to help me make my decision?

    Thank you!

  3. I also love reading all of the trip reports. I feel inclined to comment about the kids running around unsupervised. We took a cruise on the Westie the beginning of June. I have 2 boys ages 10 and 13 that went to the kids club and were taught a game of "Manhunt." I was upset when I found out the counselor was actually encouraging my kids to run around the ship. I am not saying that the kids or parents for that matter aren't responsible for their actions. However, I am disappointed that the ships staff would encourage kids to play "Manhunt." They may have not been encouraging the running but I don't know a game of hide and seek that doesn't involve running, especially with kids.

  4. I totally agree with Fleckle and port msp:

Forgive me but I can't figure out the quote boxes but...

We would do both, and would economize someplace else if necessary. For us, it was a once in a lifetime trip on my bucket list.

We especially love having a veranda for Alaska cruises, with the constantly changing scenery right there outside your cabin from the moment you open your eyes in the morning until you shut them to fall asleep at night.

Plus, with a 5 year old, you have your own viewing gallery if the tot is "peopled out" and needs some alone time with a parent. Just a thought.

  5. I totally agree with Jolucy. It was one of the highlights of our cruise! We booked a private tour for our family of (4) myself and my husband are in our 40's and our 2 boys are ages 10 and 13. Our guide stated that we could do more and go more places because we were all in pretty good shape. You can only go as far as your weakest link if you know what I mean and in our case, it was me. The rocks were slick at times, my son and my husband were having a competition of who could fall the most!

We did not get wet. However, we were there the first week of June so it may be warmer there with more ice melting. Our guide was great and very patient. We trekked on the glacier, drank glacier water, and went into an ice cave. The weather was great and the glacier was super cool! I mean how many people can say, that they went to Alaska and hiked a glacier??

My husband and I both said that after doing the trek on the glacier that Glacier Bay was actually underwelming. When I go somewhere, my goal is to actually experience it not just say, "I say I've seen it."

I always say "enjoy the ride" but I like this quote from Mark Twain better...

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed in the things that you didn't do then by the ones that you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour, and catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~Mark Twain.

  6. I guess the waterproof factor depends on how much rain you get. The week that we went, the weather was perfect! Not a drop of rain!:D

These are what we took and they worked out very well: and sell for $50.

    Bushnell Xtra-Wide 4x30 Binoculars $50 on Amazon

With these binoculars your will never have a problem with the field of view being too narrow as these fit in a massive 900ft at 1000 Yards, this is a field of view that is more than twice as wide as that of most wide angle binoculars meaning you can see ALL the action.

These auto-focus, compact binoculars come with a hip pack, and as well as the impressive 900-foot field of view at 1,000 yards, they feature BaK-4 prisms as well as fully multi-coated optics for high resolution and enhanced light transmission.

We also took this set that were fine but I liked the ones above better because they had autofocus.

Nikon Travel Lite 10 x 25 that sell for $145

    • Waterproof (up to 2m/6.6 ft. for 5 minutes) and fog-free with nitrogen gas
    • Aspherical eyepiece lens eliminates image distortion
    • High-eyepoint design provides a clear field of view for those who wear eyeglasses
    • Close focusing distance: 2.8m
    • Multilayer-coated lenses for brighter images
    • Turn-and-slide rubber eyecups facilitate easy positioning of eyes at the correct eyepoint
    • Eco-glass optics are free of lead and arsenic

  7. Curious, what do the cruise boats do when there is a Tsunami warning in Alaska? Glad we cruised a couple of weeks ago!

I know the cruise ships are fine at sea but do they continue to dock in ports when there is a tsunami warning?

  8. Thank you for all of the responses. We are taking an Alaskan cruise. The thermal suites would be a personal exchange to be able to budget the upgrade. The Signature Explore pkg would be taken away which I could give or take. We generally carry on our own water and soda anyways. We aren't big drinkers either. However, we do usually enjoy the drink of the day. The cost would be $1,100 more total for our party of 4.
  9. I called HAL to see if we could get a refund or OBC because the prices have dropped significantly for the verandahs (VA). They would not do that but did offer us a Neptune Suite for $1,100 extra OOP. However, they would take our Explorer 4 pkg. Essentially we would be getting a cost savings of $1,1,00 on the Neptune Suite for our sailing but then losing the Explore 4 and I would have to give up the thermal suite/whirlpool.

So, what do you think? Is the Neptune Suite worth it? Thank you kindly for your feedback.
  10. I have read many reviews, all very favorable. Sounds amazing! My family of 4 are booked for a private tour the first week of June. I wanted to say "experienced it" not just "saw it." Good luck!
