  1. Here's a link to the drink spreadsheet. It will tell you if the package is worth it for you. If you're not really a drinker, I would avoid it.

Yes, I agree. It's more of a convenience than a bargain. Most people say you have to average about 8 drinks a day to break even. For some, that is not too hard to do, for others it's unthinkable. Also realize you MUST also purchase soda cards for any children under 21 traveling with you, AND every adult in the party 21 and over must purchase the same beverage package as you. The spreadsheet is a real help. Either way, enjoy your cruise. Cheers!

  2. Ship -Gem

    Deck - 14

    Stateroom # - 14012

    Stateroom Category – S4

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – for the most part, yes. This is a 2 BR family villa in the haven. The master bedroom was very quiet. Some mornings we heard chairs being dragged on the sun deck above, but it was very minimal. Anyone sleeping in the living area may hear some noise from the deck below where the ping pong tables are. This was only once, and it was mid to late morning anyway.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -no

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. –

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - normal

    Was wind a problem? -no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -no

Any specific problems with this cabin? -none

    Any other comments? -

  3. Not sure about the Breakaway, but we just got off the Gem and did the cupcake decorating thing. It was pretty lame. I thought it was a class too, but it was pretty much just frost a cupcake and put sprinkles on it. It was in La Cucina and basically you went and got a plain vanilla cupcake. They gave you a choice of frosting color, and some colored sprinkles, stars, chocolate chips, etc. Then you find a table and frost your cupcake with a plastic knife. At first they were only letting the kids do it, not the parents cuz there was not enough for everyone. My DDs liked it, and it killed 15 minutes. Not sure if the Breakaway is any different.

  4. Thank you for the info, it will help me to stop obsessing! I know the policy for other members in the cabin, just wanted to know if anyone has gotten away w/ not getting packages for their kids if not wanted. Most likely we will have to pay for the soda, but I just wanted to know people's experiences. I tried to purchase C&C online, and the system won't let me remove the soda packages. Not sure how it would be any different onboard, but worth a try, especially since we can use OBC then.

  5. Hi,

We are 4 days away from our Gem cruise and I have been obsessing over which drink package to purchase. After much discussion, we decided on the corks and caps package, since we are mostly wine and beer drinkers, and we both enjoy lots of of it! The spreadsheet that Wichitastatecruiser created is awesome! I have 2 questions: if you pre-purchase online, it forces you to buy soda packages for the younger members in your party (we have 3 kids). That's fine for DS, but my DDs do not like soda at all and it would be a waste of $86 for them. Has anyone gotten away with purchasing the corks and caps pkg onboard without having to add the additional soda packages for kids who won't use them? Also, I see there's $5 difference per person per day when purchasing the UBP in advance vs. onboard. Is the Corks n Caps the same? (i.e. is it $44/day whether we purchase in advance or onboard? The spreadsheet seems to indicate that is the case, but I want to be sure). If there's no price diff, then I would prefer to wait till we're onboard, since I think we can plea our case better in person, AND I also want to use our $300 OBC towards the corks n caps package.

Thanks for any quick, helpful answers. With only 4 days till we cruise, not sure how long the corks n caps pkg will be available for pre-purchase.

  6. No. It's only on Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, Pearl and Jewel. See http://www.ncl.com/downloads/iconcierge

That's what it says on the website, but if you click on the link from the post from today's NCL FB page, about the "Norwegian NEXT" features they're rolling out, it says the app will implemented fleet wide:

    "MOBILE APP

Whether you're connecting with guests on board or to all the activities your ship has to offer, there's an app for that. iConcierge is the first app of its kind. And Norwegian is the first cruise line to develop and roll it out fleetwide. We're also enhancing our Cruise Norwegian app to make your pre-cruise planning experience even better and more seamlessly connected to your cruise vacation."

Here is the link to the Norwegian NEXT features:

    http://www.ncl.com/next?cid=SM_NCL_GLO_NA_FBK_BKN_NA_NEXT_XXXXXXX_XXXXXXX

It's not clear when all these changes will take place. The press release mentioned "through 2015". The FB post said the new menus are out now. It seems a lot of information from NCL is vague and contradictory. If it's on the Jewel and the Pearl, why not the Gem? We'll be on the Gem in a few weeks, I wish it would be available then.

  7. How did you save $2500 on a cruise? Did you book an expensive suite on a long cruise. A typical discount savings is 10%.

We usually book a balcony and a typical 14 day cruise in the MED, Australia, South America or Asia will cost from $2000 pp to $2800 pp.

OMG, sorry it was a typo (actually I think it was a brain-o). We actually saved $500, not $2500! Our discount was only 5%, and we did have to book 9 months in advance. We are a family of 5 traveling on the Gem in the Haven in August, so it's a pricey cruise. Thanks for pointing it out, I hope I didn't confuse too many people!

  8. NCL should provide a senior discount rather than AARP. I refuse to join AARP.

I guess it's not worth it if you already get a senior rate, but for those who are not quite seniors yet, the AARP membership comes in handy, as I'm just finding out. DH and I just turned 50 (a few years ago:D), and for a $15 annual membership, we have already saved $2500 off our cruise, and about $60 off a Comfort Suites room for access to Atlantis. I have to get used to checking the senior rates, because in some cases (like Comfort Suites), you either need to be 60 or older, OR have an AARP card.

  9. If you book 2 adults and 2 kids, you will get 2 adults and 2 kids bracelets

You just can't purchase a kids band and give it to an adult.

Thanks, ScubaGirl, but isn't a child's bracelet for my 15 year old not going to work at Atlantis, since children are charged for the adult rate if they are older than 12? Thanks.

  10. Hi there,

We are looking to book a room at the Comfort Suites to get access to Atlantis on 8/6 while our ship is in port. Comfort Suites states that "Persons 16 and older are charged as adults." But Atlantis considers a child to be age 12 and under. So if we book a room for 2 adults, a 15 year old and a 10 year old, that is 2 adults and 2 children. However, doesn't that mean my 15 year old will get a child wristband??

Sorry if this has been asked already, but I searched the boards and didn't see anything specifically related to this. TIA.
