  1. DW and I enjoy all of the specialty restaurants except Qsine. We disliked it so much that we left halfway through the dinner. (No, we didn't ask for a refund.) I doubt that we would try Qsine again even if we found a fun group to go with.

Did they refund you anyway ?

  2. We are sailing on the Reflection and where some of us in the group are in a Sky Suite, others in the group have booked AquaClass.

It's my understanding that when in a Sky Suite Cabin you eat your main meals in Luminae Restaurant where those in AquaClass eat in Blu.

Because we'd like to eat some meals/dinner with friend in the AquaClass rooms, can we as Sky Suite guests requests dinner in Blu throughout the week and if so, would there be an additional charge or would they do that as a courtesy? We don't mind using our OBC to eat in Blu but was just curious if anyone who's stayed in a Sky Suite has requested dinner in Blu and if they charged you to make that switch.

    Thanks!

I just came off Reflection. Blu is an absolute failure. Steak is flat iron grilled. Not worth the Aqua class upgrade ! If you want the spa pay $75 and get the package on board.

  3. i.e. just like every other night, wear whatever you feel like.

Ignore that joke line about enforcement, - hasn't happened yet, why would they start now?

Funny how you cut half the dress code out that speaks specifically to flip flops. Lol. Pinocchio still has his strings and you are Pinocchio.

  4. Please read the "updated " dress code off celebrity's website.

Formal Night gets a modern luxury reboot. Say goodbye to Formal Night, and hello to Evening Chic. It’s your time to shine—your way. Get glamorous. Get chic. Be sophisticated. Now, on up to two nights on every cruise, Evening Chic activities have been introduced, and Evening Chic attire has replaced Formal attire. While dressier than Smart Casual, Evening Chic is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire.

    Women should feel comfortable wearing:

    • A cocktail dress

    • Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top

    Men should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater

    • Optional sport coat or blazer

Evening Chic means that you can get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you would like to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you absolutely should.

All cruises that are 7 nights or longer will feature two Evening Chic nights. Any cruise 6-nights or shorter will feature one Evening Chic night. All other nights of the cruise will feature Smart Casual attire. Celebrity Xpedition will continue to feature casual attire for the entire cruise.

Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise.

    Women should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top

    Men should feel comfortable wearing:

    • Pants or jeans with a sport shirt that has sleeves

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours. The dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening.

  5. My DH would always have to remove his hat even when going over to his mom's for dinner....never a formal event!! This is a very close Italian family with all boys and they would steal food off each other's plates and pull pranks all the time, right at the dinner table but no hats allowed.

However, I worked in a community with a HUGE Eastern Indian and middle eastern population. Many of the employees wore turbans, head wraps / scarves or a close fitting knit hat tied at the top into a knob (not sure what it is called). Persons with chemo might also wear a hat to cover the fact their hair has fallen out. I would dare anyone on a cruise ship to deny them entrance as this being disrespectful to others in the room. Everyone's culture is different. There is no broad brush to indicate what is proper for all based on the opinions and cultures of some. Just sayin!

Having cancer and having swelled feet is a touch different. Come on , how can you disrespect people by putting them into the same ball park.

  6. I wear flip flops sometimes, even on "formal" nights. True, they are black patent, but still flip flops. On casual nights, I have also been known to wear a flip flop that is leather or rubber...maybe with a few rhinestones etc. It's just ridiculous to take everything so literally. Especially when you point to the old descriptions of formal nights.

If you are dressed nicely, no one will care at all what is on your feet. Nor should anyone be personally offended somehow by what anyone else wears. I don't understand that. It's as though everyone else is a prop in your play, and you don't want them to stray and ruin your atmosphere. Totally absurd.

You state how I posted old info yet you clearly say you violated the rules of formal night ??? It's not taking it to literally. It clearly states NO FLIP FLOPS. Can you not read that ? How does it get misinterpreted ? How is that literal. It's stating a fact. I am the puppeteer and you are the puppet. Welcome to the show.

  7. Like I said before , the reason the rules are not enforced is the fact they don't want to lose there job. They told me that straight. Imagine if the lady in flip flops gets told that she cannot enter the MDR and is turned away for violating the dress code. She will whine and cry and give all her excuses true or not as to why she must wear the flip flops and how she was discriminated yadda yadda yadda. These workers on the ship need there job and will NOT stick there neck out and will turn a blind eye. That's is the only reason people are allowed to break dress code. Imagine if 95% of the people are dressed in tuxs and gowns and you show up in your summer dress and flip flops. You will be out of place and as much as people say the don't care , the comments are made. I've heard them myself as the tables are very close to each other.

Princess will turn you away. We witnessed it on an Alaska cruise 3 years ago. Guy never came with a suit jacket. He had to rent one to walk in the dining room only to take it off when he had dinner. Btw princess is owned by Carnival.

  8. Hang in there HERSHEEPEG, you and I will be dressed properly for dinner along with our British mates and exhibit good taste, good manners, and civility to our fellow passengers. Celebrity's failure to enforce its own rules is the real problem here. Yeah, I know I can cruise on some other line, but darn it, I like Celebrity! As I stated in an earlier post, I will be eating in Blu (maybe Luminae if I get upgraded) and I hope the passengers there will have some idea that "smart casual" does not include jeans and flip flops for dinner.

    Flame away! :D

Lol, never thought we would get jumped on like criminals for wanting to have a nice dining experience with people dressed accordingly. Some people still have there head in the sand and don't get what elegant is....

  9. Just take a look around and you'll see why. Women might be allowed a lot more leeway but they don't usually take it. Men take it anyway. I see it all the time in Las Vegas. The girls are all dressed up in their cocktail dresses and heels and the boyfriend in his scruffy jeans and shirt tails hanging out. They don't look like they're going to the same place.

Kinda like the op pictures , except the opposite

  10. Isn't that why OP started this thread?

Sit upright in your chair and stop crawling under tables and I assure you that this will not be a problem.

Of course it is sexist. Cruise lines have long allowed women far more leeway than men.

Guess I'm old school. But i think we should dress up and have a good time. One thing I did learn through all of this was having to dress up for the theatre. I did not know that dress code applied there. We always went after dinner so we were dressed , but now that I think about it and some of the pics we have lots of people were dressed in shorts etc.

  11. Please see your post #40 in this thread. It included this:

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time.

That was on princess. Please read the post before quoting stuff. Different cruise line , but you knew that, that's why you selectively chose to pick apart my statement. Nice try. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 lmao

  12. And yet you wore a baseball cap in the dining room. Post #35 this thread. Your own words indicate you were asked to take it off and you sought out the manager to tell him that he should be more worried about people not sanitizing their hands than your hat. Perhaps you didn't do the research yourself. ;)

If you read the rules the clearly state in evening hours those provisions exist. I along with many other men were leaving the ship (debarkation) and had b fast just before. Please read the whole comment before putting your two sense in.

  13. And so with that comment I take it you would approve if he was wearing a pair of sandals too? After all, if you think she would look better in sandals, and you're totally against sexist comments (as per your above statement), then he would also look spiffy in a pair on 'Chic Night'?

Absolutely not. He would look ridiculous. All we read is about her and her footwear choice. He should step up and say that it isn't appropriate especially when he is wearing dress shoes. Fashion faux pas if have ever seen it. I don't buy the chronic foot issue argument. If she did have this condition she would have special orthotics or shoes. Now days you can get anything and flip flops is just the easy way out. Kinda like the people who roll out of bed and put on the clothes that are on the floor from the previous two days and run to the buffet with bed head ect. Ya sure your on vacation but have some self respect.

  14. I was just reading over the dress code for the MDR and it says that flip flops are not allowed. On all of my prior cruises, I have worn a nice sundress to dinner on non-formal nights, and I usually wear that with black flip flops. These aren't the $2 plastic kind of flip flops you wear to the beach. They are nicer fabric ones that I think look fine with my dresses. If I wear these flip flops to dinner on my upcoming Celebrity cruise, will they tell me I can't enter the MDR?! It's not like I'd be wearing it with a bathing suit or shorts or other inappropriate attire haha I just don't have any other non-flip flop shoes to wear with a dress for dinner (aside from the heels that I force my feet into on formal/elegant chic night, but would rather not have to wear on the casual nights!) I am attaching a few photos from my last cruise for reference...

Where does it say she has foot issues. She just does not want to wear shoes that she said are uncomfortable. That's her problem that she bought uncomfortable shoes.

  15. The question was answered. And the op should of done research and realized what is acceptable in the mdr. I personally don't want to see people's feet in a nice dining room. Just dress appropriately. The foot issue with swelling is common. It's caused from ass the salt and preservatives retaining the water and going to the ankles / feet. They are called cankles. Look it up. It is not painful just have swollen feet. And flip flops are not supportive for foot issues. Some are saying she looks cute in the dress etc. Would he look cute if he wore flip flops ? Sounds sexist that it's permitted for the girl to wear them but not the guy.

  16. Celebrity probably hired some idiot who has alternative views and is responsible for this "evening chic". I'm modern in my 30's and never heard of chic???? How do they expect senior cruisers to take this concept. I'm all for the two formal nights. Is it that hard for people to dress up and look nice ?

  17. Another pet hate of mine.........baseball caps at the dinner table, it's just bad manners and an insult to other guests at the table................

    don't get me started

If you want to dress casual go on carnival. I pay extra for more professional , more mannered clientele.

  18. Here in sunny California flip flops are always in fashion, especially on a cruise!

    Not in a dining room.

If those are allowed then could I wear my baseball cap and shorts ? Rules are rules. If she can break them so can I.

  19. It is clearly stated in the dress code rules , even for the evening chic that NO flip flops are allowed. The question was answered. What the debate?

There was once this woman who entered the dining room of the crown princess. Her skirt was so short you could see her thong. Everyone was staring and pointing. Hey I didn't mind, but the waiter came around and I asked him why they allow that ? He said if he turned them away he most likely would be fired.

It's not that the staff ignores the rules , it's that they are afraid of enforcing them. If people are going to dress like they just come from the beach , they are making a spectacle of themselves.

Rules are rules. But people break them and put the staff in awkward positions.

  20. I was just reading over the dress code for the MDR and it says that flip flops are not allowed. So no one has answered. If the guy was wearing the flip flops in the picture would that be acceptable in the dining room ?

I bet the pro flip floppers would change there tune if the guy in the pictures was wearing flip flops.... Not acceptable.

  22. Seriously folks. Some of you sound like you are characters in the latest Downton Abby episode. Please note that the year is 2016! People are not on job interviews. They are on vacation. May I suggest that you might be happier sailing on the Cunard Line which still enforces a strict dress code and has a rather strict class structure. When I sailed on Cunard, I knew that I was expected to wear a ball gown for the formal evening events in the Princess Grill. However, when we sail on Celebrity, my husband will be leaving his tux and suits at home. I find it refreshing that the passengers may choose to dress as they wish, within the confines of the code listed below.

This is the Celebrity's dress code as posted in their web site on January 31, 2016

    During Your Cruise

Q: What is the onboard dress code?

    Happy Sailing!

You must of missed the no flip flops allowed in your post lol. What point were you trying to make?
