We’ve used Juneau Whale Watch several times and will use them again. Their combo tour takes you to the glacier after the whale watch. They have buses back to the ship from the glacier every 30 minutes or so. You can stay as long as you want. Just don’t miss the last bus.

This is the one we have booked for end of July, instead of the one through Princess. I didnt like the idea of only having an hour at mendenhall glacier, and this one said you can take any shuttle back to the pier. I think it was cheaper also.

We flew out of Anchorage last summer on a 1 am flight on Alaskan Air.  No problems getting to the airport from the Captain Cook though we took an Uber.  Eat ahead of time—not much is open at that time!  The AA lounge even closed and kicked us out!

Did you book your air through a cruise line? Just wondering if Princess will transport us that time of the night. We have airport transfers as part of our cruisetour package already. Good to know about things being closed that time of day, thanks. Guess it makes sense.

That sounds great.  That way you do not have to even get a hotel for that night, saving yourself lots of money.

The hotel that night is actually part of the cruise tour. It's the 4th night on land. Just wondering about not actually staying all night in the room and leaving late evening to go to the airport

  4. We are doing a Princess cruise tour, cruise first then land which ends up with a night at the Captain cook hotel in anchorage. We already have flights booked but they were changed to  much later in the day than origianally booked ( airline changed the flight). My question is, has anyone ever taken a REALLY EARLY flight out  12:55 am? I know we wouldnt even really get that last night at the hotel, but timewise getting home it may work out better for us if we just take a short nap after dinner and head out. Does Princess actually do transfers that time of day? I assume we would have to leave the hotel by 10 PM ish.

  5. We go in June and decided on booking through  Juneau Whale watch on our own for this very reason. I have read good reviews about them and they do the combo tour, whale watch first then Mendenhall glacier. Decided on them because it says they have a shuttle that runs every half hour back to the pier, so we will have time to walk to nugget falls and not have to be rushed. Price was very comparable to Princess also, maybe a little cheaper.

  6. Thank you for this. This is one port we aren't going to do a big excursion. We just want to explore on our own but wanted to see the lumberjack show. Only one available through Princess was 6:30 am so I just went to their website and bought tickets myself for show a little later in the morning, then we will just walk around on our own. It looks like such an interesting little town to explore

  7. We are on a cruisetour end of June, first week of July. I've been able to book cruise excursions right on the princess website, but can't book anything yet for the land portion. Have had a couple booked for about 6 weeks now. Still trying to decide what to do in Skagway.

  8. We have an 11 day northbound cruise tour scheduled for the end of June next year on the Sapphire. I really didnt want one of the really big ships and this one looks like a good size. I booked a balcony room and was going to upgrade to a  mini but then discovered they were all on the 9th deck and the balconies are open with no overhang in case of rain, and people on decks 10 and 11 ( which we are on 11 ) can look right down on you while you're out on the balcony. I wasnt a fan of that so kept my regular balcony room. So excited and already starting to book excursions.

  9. We have a balcony room on sapphire booked for Alaska cruisetour next june. Just booked it Thursday and sunday it was $224 a person cheaper. We had decided to add an additional night in the hotel in Vancouver before the cruise to called my agent. The lower price paid for the extra night and still got a $170 discount off the final payment. I will be watching it to see if there is any more drops... have a year to wait so maybe I'll get lucky again.

  10.  I did look at it and decided against it. We will be at the Princess wilderness lodge 2 nights and McKinley 1 night next June. It had a break down of typical prices for breakfast , lunch, appetizer and dinner and a few other things. We're really not big breakfast eaters normally and usually don't get appetizers anyway. Grabbing a small meal somewhere just works better for us with a bigger dinner.  We are thinking about a covered wagon excursion one of the days that includes a meal already.

  11. I am thinking about a transatlantic cruise on the ncl getaway in April. Trying to figure some things before we decide. We live in NJ and will have to fly back from London. Don't really want to park at the port. Don't want to try and get back there to get our car. We have flown out of Newark and did the park and fly. Has anyone parked at a Newark hotel and gotten a transfer to the Manhattan port?

  12. I couldnt find any threads on this ..just wondering if anyone has cruised the past couple weeks around the bahamas. I have never cruised this time of the year and leaving Nj saturday on the Anthem.I know its cold here when we get onboard but I was just wondering what the temps will be like actually on the ship. I do see its in the low 80's most days on coco cay and Nassau but wondering what exactly to pack for the ship. I assume a light jacket or sweater if on deck in the evening?? I am so used to summer, hot weather temps.

  13. I'm looking at the same excursion in March . I notice this one is 5 hours which includes the sting rays and the deluxe beach day is only 4 hours, but includes a grilled lunch. I assume there is somewhere there where we can purchase a lunch if we do the stingray encounter and just hang out on the beach for the rest of the time.

  14. Has anyone done the essential Nassau tour with RC? It says 2 hours long in one spot and 3 1/2 in the description. We weren't going to do an excursion at all but saw this one for $45 each and thought it was a good way to spend a couple hours seeing some of the highlights. Stops at the Rum cake factory and John Watlings distillery also.

    • 3.5-hour tour: See the sights and attractions of Nassau in air-conditioned comfort; stop for photos and samples of local food and drink along the way.
    • Queen’s Staircase: For amazing views of Nassau, climb a staircase of more than 65 steps carved by slaves from solid coral rock.
    • Fort Charlotte: Learn how the Fort built in the Napoleonic era was used to defend the island against marauding pirates.
    • Atlantis Resort: Take gorgeous photos at the famous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

  15. That’s exactly what I did!! Left the rooms the way they were with one of us in each! The good thing is that I was still able to get his at $43/day.

That's great! Just not worth it for us to buy 2 packages even with the sale. I know I would drink more if I had it ;p but we are not real big drinkers either and I am fine with the tea and lemonade they have and just having a drink or two in the evening. I like the being able to bring 2 bottles of wine on board to drink on our balcony a couple of evenings too.

  16. If you dont drink much and your husband would benefit from the drink package, it would be better if he was listed as in a separate room from you as long as none of your children are over 21. Everyone in the room over 21 has to purchase the package but your husband could just get it for himself and you wouldnt have to get it for yourself if you're not in his room. Dont know what it would be for one person but that might be an option for you.

  17. The entire group enters and remains in the tube together so no, you cannot photograph each other. Sometimes RC has one of the professional photographers up there taking pictures.

I wonder why they wouldnt let you do this and just hand your phone or camera off to the other person while you go in the tube.

  18. I went on to book for my march sailing all that is left is sea days. I really want to go up when we are docked if possible. If i book one of these days now and something opens up for a port day will it let me cancel and rebook? I dont want to chance not getting on it at all and I'm surprised it would already by booked up 5 months in advance.
