  1. Has anyone seen any deals for Nov 2017? I realize it's far off however I'm trying to make plans for my birthday.

I may need to request time off and ask my manager to be flexible with the dates in hopes I can secure a last minute deal next year.

I'm also looking for Fall 2017 for MY special birthday so I'm looking for deals too. I plan to tell my friends and family once I find something, then invite them to join me on the cruise.

  2. Nice to meet you!

I have just come back from an Itaky/Spain cruise and will be on the NCL escape in about 7 weeks...yay:D

Your cruises sound great! - You know how to enjoy life!;)

Which one is your favorite cruise? - My favorite has been Alaska two years ago...

    HAPPY CRUISING to you all!

Especially to Nisky who has been keeping this thread alive over a looong time! You are amazing!!!!!!!

Hi Melli. Nice to "see" you back. Italy to Spain sounds great. I haven't cruised since September 2014. Too much drama at home. BUT a friend and I have special birthdays in the year 2017 and I'm looking into what's available leaving from Manhattan or New Jersey sometime between February and October. I'll investigate making it a group thing and invite friends and acquaintances.

  3. Got a great deal on a balcony. It was weird - their site was showing that a Cat. BB Balcony for one passenger was less than an inside/Studio cabin! So what could I do? Booked it of course. So it was solo+lat. member+AARP gave me price of $1,220. (inc. tax, etc.). I chose the Dining (4 dinners) + Shore Excursion package (an additional $15.) for total of $1,235. Yippeeee!

  4. Leaving on my first cruise in 15 days (yay). Am taking my DD13. I expect as soon as she meets up with some other teens that I will find myself very solo on the trip. I may be single but I agree that meeting others on the ship is not about dating or "hooking up" but it would be fun to have people to chat with, grab a drink or three and explore the ship. Have met quite a few nice people who are also going through a fb page for this cruise... they are all married though and that can get awkward lol

Just havefun but do keep an eye out for our teen. I recommend you be sure she has very meal with you unless she's in the teen group which is often fun for them. Give her a curfewand be sure she checks in with you at specified times. You will surely have fun, too. Look for others on the CC boards who may be cruising with teens on your ship.

  5. I stand corrected and am pleased things have changed since the few times I sat with the senior officers. Your information is appreciated. I'm curious abut Celebrity as I've never cruised with them and their itineraries seem very special. What is the atmosphere like, how flexible are dining options (I'm a vegetarian) and what entertainment and other options are available?

  6. Oh no! This is disheartening. I'm cruising solo on the Ecstasy and there's no roll call for my sailing which I found odd. There's ones all around my sailing but not that sailing. I'm an admitted NCL brat and they do amazing gatherings for solos on their newer ships (Epic, Breakaway, Getaway and Escape). They have a dedicated studio lounge for the meet up and it's hosted by a member of the cruise staff. Their older ships have a meet up as well which is usually attended the first day by a member of the cruise staff. The rest of the cruise that staff member usually knows I'm solo and calls me out for the line dances in the nightclub and what not. It's fun and they usually introduce me to other passengers or other crew members depending on if they're out at the disco that late.

Now I wonder if this four day trip is going to be a quiet time and if I should just bring more books to read?:cool:

When is your cruise? Why not start a roll call for it?

  7. No nothing like that but an organized meet up might be nice, my last cruise I ended up at atrium bar on one of nights of meetup...an older lady walked up to me and asked if this was meetup....to bad she was older than my mother...however i think this is why these "events" are not well attended and i am not saying have one every night....maybe one or two with just the slightest bit of effort put into it.

Heck I mingle everywhere I go

Hey uncleg, I may have been that older woman....I'm in my 60s. I'm actually a member of several real world Meetups from Meetup.com and many are multi generational. Because I'm a sociable person when I cruise I chat with many people of all ages and genders. I enjoy conversation related to a variety of subjects but also respect those individuals who prefer solitude.

  8. I just got from the Glory I cruised solo so I hung around the lido deck and usually sat at the Red frog pub. The first day was fun but all the other days I could have sat on the same stool all day and not one person who have said a word to me I had to converse first. People just don't care they are stuck in their own little world but I DO LIKE TO CRUISE for me it is the best vacation and I'm not a shy person so I do meet a lot of people.

    Gary

I'm like you, Gary. I'm sociable and often converse with people I'm sitting near. I haven't yet cruised solo but have cruised with my then 18 yr old daughter and her friend so I was virtually solo all times but dinner. I still enjoyed myself and thanks to Cruise Critic met lots of people inluding a married man whose wife doesnt cruise but doesn't mind him dancing with other women when he cruises. It was purely social. It's a big world and those of us who are social animals who happen to enjoy cruising and traveling in general, can always find good conversation.

  9. Oops, I didn't read and edit before posting...my last post should state.."I usually find a cruiseline rep, tell the rep my intended price point, departure port and dates for cruising, then let the rep do magic. If my needs aren't met at that first contact I'm usually called back at some point when they can come close. I was once called when a new promotion became effective. I confess this has worked when tavelling with others. Though I've considered solo travel I havent yet made the move.
