  1. The vast, vast majority of the past year, the promo for my cabin category (balcony) has been pick one, and we pick UBP. This time, it's pick one plus photo package plus arcade credit. That is what is called a no-brainer.

So yeah, some people prefer just picking one. I prefer picking one plus something additional.

Sounds like a no-brainer if you are booking a OV or higher and it's not a guarantee! On the current promo it does not apply to guarantees or insides. So those of us that book guarantees get nothing on this promo except photo and arcade. Horrible promotion for anyone OV or lower.

  2. ksmcdonald - I would call back to see if there is anything available.

I'm sailing on the Breakaway on 6/12 and was able to upsell twice. Once to a forward facing penthouse, and then again to a deluxe owners suite.

    GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Really?!!! And my cruise is the week before yours! I did call this morning, do you think I should call twice in one day? I looked online and it looks like most of the Haven's are sold on your cruise.....go figure  my cruise still has lots.

  3. Although there are rooms available, there may not be any upsells available for your cruise. If they are close to maximum capacity, due to 3 and 4 in many staterooms, they will try to see if they can sell whatever available staterooms at the going rate.

This makes much more sense if that is the case.

Never thought that they would be close to maximum capacity when I see 148 empty cabins that I am able to select when doing a mock booking.

  4. Yes, it means they're not available for upswell yet. NCLs policy is don't call us we'll call you. So by calling them now you've reached them when they're not upwelling your cruise yet.

The policy "Don't Call Us, We Will Call You" must mean that they only upsell based on how many cruises you've taken with NCL? Obviously they don't call all 4,000 people, is it just luck of the draw or do you have to meet a certain criteria to be lucky enough to get a call?

  5. I just called the upsell department for an upsell to a Haven on our June 5th Breakaway cruise. I currently have a balcony guarantee booked.

When I go on line to do a mock booking, there are (9) H9's, (4) H7's and (2) H5's available.

They told me that there was not anything available in the Haven's. And that if I was interested in upselling to a Mini Suite, that could only be done the week before sailing. I am currently 19 days out.

Has anyone ever gotten a response like this, when there are obvisouly rooms to be upsold? They currently have 148 unsold available cabins total for the ship (inside up to Haven). Why would they tell me nothing available. Is it because maybe this is a first time NCL cruise for us? Totally confused!

  6. Sounds like everything worked out in the end! Congratulations on your wedding, everything looked beautiful!

My son was a groomsman in a wedding one year ago but they got married in Bermuda on the beach after sailing there on the Breakaway. Their reception was also in Bermuda. I was thinking it would of been easier for them to marry in NYC instead of a foreign country.

I so wish my husband and I married on a cruise! We've been on so many since our marriage, starting with our honeymoon! We will be on the Breakaway in three weeks and I would love to re-new our vows on this trip.

    Congratulations on your marriage!

  7. The 99.50 is for one person, that sounds correct if you are sailing solo.

I was quoting per person, but I am traveling with my husband. 99.50 X 2 = $199 added to our account, plus $200 more to book with promo instead of sail-away price. Ended up costing us $600 more to take the free at sea promotion than the sail away price of $699.

I still think we got a great price and I am happy with what I booked and paid for, just that it is not technically "free at sea"!

  8. Free at Sea is like saying a restaurant offers a steak dinner package with 2 free glasses of wine for $60. If you don't want the wine, it is $40.

So ... um ... the wine isn't really free is it.

Booking the guarantee rate doesn't include the promotions. You pay a higher price if you want the promotions. So the promotions aren't really free.

So true! Back in April I could of got a inside guarantee cabin for 7 days on Breakaway for $699 (no drink package) or pay $899 and have the "free" drink package. A free package that cost me $200! SMH Then I need to pay the "Promotion Service Charge of $99.50 on top of the $200 extra. This now brings me to $295.50 for the free drink package! That equals $42.78 a day for all you can drink, definitely not free! These Marketing people are genius!

But starting May 1st all guarantee bookings do not include the drink promotion, regardless of inside, balcony, mini-suite

  9. Called today about my May 22 Getaway cruise. Wanted a spa balcony instead of my BX. Rep told me they only focused on Haven. Anybody have another experience?

I called last night (Monday) and they told me the same thing. They only concentrate on Haven bookings. That is their main priority.

  10. I called this past Friday, and earlier today (Monday), and was told both times that there were no upsell offers at this time. I know for a fact people on my sailing have done upsells, so I think it must be because I am in a studio. I plan to try again up until it would be too late for me to print out new e-docs.

I just called the upsell department yesterday (Monday) and they told me they only upsell people to the Haven, that is their main priority! I know for a fact from these boards that people were upgraded to other categories. I have an inside GTY and was hoping to upsell to a balcony or mini suite. She told me that they randomly send out emails for those. I asked how they select who gets the email and she told me it is random, not everyone gets an email. I asked if there was anyway I could be put on a list for consideration and she said no, it was all a matter of luck who was chosen to get the offer. I asked if I could call back closer to my sailing, which is June 5th and she said it would do no good, that I should cross my fingers and wait for an email.

I feel like they were dishonest with me and I am not happy with the response I received from them. Should I try calling back? Has anyone ever had the same responses?

  11. And just read terms and conditions did anybody look into the guarantee balcony getting the promo cause the terms make it seem like its not. And as for the SDP according to the terms even if u book a suite its for Hawaii cruises only. Anybody confirm this

I just called NCL and they are not offering promo for guarantee bookings. (Probably because they charge $300-$400 more for balcony that is not guarantee and that covers the cost of a package).

  12. I'm going to take a guess here that there are no more inside rooms available, and you're on a "waiting list" of sorts (but you'll definitely get a cabin). If they are able to upsell inside people to balconies, etc., then they can give you an inside room. If not enough people upsell, they'll have to give you a higher level cabin.

They'd rather get someone paying a few extra bucks to move up, than have to give you the "nicer" cabin at your "cheap" inside-guarantee rate.

Again, this is just conjecture; do not rely on this.

    --Michael

Your guess was totally right! I went on this morning and it said "Sold Out" for inside cabins. Yesterday let me select "inside" but nothing would come up except guarantee.

I'm hoping that with all the inside cabins sold out, and many balconies left, I just may get lucky and get a better cabin! That is, if people don't decide purchase the better balconies due to upsells. I'll just be happy to be on the ship, regardless where I am!

  13. I don't think NCL shows exactly how many rooms are left in a category. When I posted my comment about how many rooms seemed to be available, I was going by which categories had already said sold out. Some balcony categories for my May 22 sailing say sold out, however on the June 5th sailing, none of the categories were sold out at that time.

As for you not being able to select any cabins when doing a mock booking, I'm not sure why its automatically taking you to the guarantee only options.

    Thank you for the reply!

  14. lol well good luck!

Ya that makes sense but I checked out the June Getaway sailings and there seems to be even more balcony rooms available on those dates than mine. Oh well, I know I'll be on a ship in a balcony room in a few weeks, thats all that really matters! I just can't help but be curious especially since we are sailing with friends and we want to see if we are close to each other or not!

Could you tell me how you check how many rooms are left in a category? When I go on to make a "fake booking" it doesn't let me see available cabins. It automatically takes me to the "guarantee price" and doesn't show me cabins to pick from, even if I select just inside (I don't select guarantee). Is there a time frame that might be too close to sailing to see empty cabins? I sail June 5th on Breakaway and wanted to know how many insides are left.

  15. Anybody want to wager if this will all work out?

I was worried about it working out as well. When I called to book, I ask her to put in the notes her exact promise about changing credit card charges. She read it back to me, only after putting me on HOLD to confirm with a supervisor that it could be done. She also said the call was being recorded (all calls are recorded).

Either way, I got what was most important, the UBP. I'll let everyone know this week if it works out the way I wanted!

  16. So glad I booked yesterday! They've taken away the. Free UBP for inside cabins. Looks like the new promotion is for selected sailings too, which Breakaway is not one of them! Cruise Critic came through again, with the most accurate info. The May promo prediction was 100% accurate!
