  1. A fellow passenger told me recently that they had to pay 20% gratuities for NCL's "free" beverage package. That came to about $200 on their particular itinerary. I would call that "dollaring" their passengers to death. In their opinion, Celebrity was much fairer and a better value and experience than NCL.

They would have to pay the gratuities on every drink they paid for too if they didn't have the package. It's still a huge savings

  2. I wonder if they are going to fix the problems with the small balconies.

I've been on the Getaway twice this year and had no issues with the smaller balcony. The ship is amazing and the space on the balcony was plenty for the time I was out there. I'd much rather have a larger bed, room and bathroom, which I did in my mini suites!

  3. Wow!! I took my info from the public pages, the ones noting they are near bankruptcy and for the first time in years have posted a small profit? Wonder if that has any affect on all this. Many posts complaining about the food quality (lack of). I have no first hand knowledge, just know the investors want NCL to input some money to try to salvage something. Hardly any ringing endorsements as to their quality or financials. I hope NCL can save them. If not, another one bites the dust?

In reviewing your other posts I see you are a huge Oceania fan. I understand how upsetting this could be to have NCL take over a claimed "high end" cruise line. However, if they were doing well, I doubt the investors who have money in both the affected lines would push for NCL to take them over?

Not being profitable is hardly "near bankruptcy". A significant amount of the charges on their financial statement are non cash charges meaning it doesn't affect their ability to meet their financial obligations. The inability to meet your obligations is bankruptcy.

Unless you know the actually financing in place and the corporate tax structure of Prestige as a holding company or their majority owner, Apollo, there is no need to make an baseless charge of financial insolvency.

No need to sound the alarm here people. Carnival owns Princess and Cunard and each line has maintained their own culture, personality and customer base.

Bravo to NCL for growing in a new direction. Considering the cost of building new ships these days, I'd say they managed a very sound deal here! Time will tell on that. I hope they do well!

  4. I was talking about Entourage. To a 16 year old (17 very soon) 13 is considered a little kid.. really that is a 6th or 7th grader versus 12th graders. Who thought that was a good idea?

They really should do something about splitting it 12-14 and 15-17 or something like that.

Developmentally 13 year olds are nothing like 17 year olds.

Entourage isn't education, it's recreational! Video Games, table games, loud music and other kids is pretty universal entertainment for ALL teens.

Sorry if 13 year olds being present offends your kids, but 13 year olds are indeed TEENAGERS and shouldn't have to be relegated to younger activities because of a couple of entitled older teens.

It is a good idea. Consolidating the teen area into one, allows for a bigger, more fabulous facility.

  5. We just loved Flamingo Grill on the Getaway!

It is kind of tucked away so it was fairly empty and very peaceful. It's open air with comfortable seating and an amazing view of the million dollar homes on Palm Island!

The food is really cool too. Cuban food but not anything that even a picky eater would not like. The rice pudding and tres leches cake were fab!

We're boarding her for round two (this time with our boys) on Sept 6 and we've decided that once we have Vibe passes in hand, we're off to Flamingo grill again!

  6. I have read that smoking on NCL balconies will be prohibited from November. In the information also was mentioned that elecronic cigarettes were prohibited. I do not understand why? No smell, no risc of fire, no ashtrays.. What is the problem? And who shall make the control, with no cigarette butts and no smell? I wonder...

Question. You posed this exact question on the Royal Caribbean forum. You got very similar responses. What exactly are you trying to do? Voice your displeasure with the policy or stir up trouble with others who don't agree with your position?

If you choose to cruise on a certain line, their rules are their rules. They don't consult with you, me or anyone else (that I know of) on these forums. They don't have to!

Readers and Posters beware. This poster seems to be bored and looking to stir up something wherever he can!

  7. Not to be rude but if you don't like it don't book it.

It is not for everyone, some people may find it great.

    Exactly my thought.

There is actually substantial value in this all inclusive package to guests who would normally purchase the unlimited dining, unlimited beverage and some cruise line shore excursions. The $10 limit on drinks is not very restrictive. The unlimited beverage package works for a lot of cruisers wanting to pre pay for any and all expenses they may have, before sailing.

Water may be no biggie to you but those who have to pay for bottled water because they prefer it, might disagree.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's called optional for a reason

  8. No one has yet proven that cell phones do not cause brain tumors. In fact there was at least one study that concluded they might.

Cell phones should be banned until proven safe!

PS - "[T]he cruise line is there to protect "the many" and themselves. They are a business and don't owe NON-smokers anything except what they choose to offer them" is also a true statement.

You're right. But if you chooseto use a cell phone there is no risk to anyone but yourself. I've yet to see someone walk up to me and hold a cell phone up to my head. Hardly a comparison to the ability for someone to breathe in the smoke or vapor

  9. And your point is what?

While I can't speak to what the poster was thinking. It's likely that they are suggesting that an advertiser or user can claim something is harmless right up until the point that it is proven harmless. Proving harmfulness takes time and history has shown this to have devastating effects with asbestos, cigarettes, topical creams and medicines, food additives, medications, environmental pollution...

It's a health conscious, conservative stance to allow people to protect themselves with some additional limitations. If in 20-30 years the e-cigs are still not deemed (through medical science) harmful, then it's likely that the cruise lines will gladly hand back some additional locations to utilize them and likewise, non-smokers will have less resistance as well.

Personally I like the better safe than sorry route. E Cig users can still use them. It would be nice for the cruise lines to consider that their use is often to curtail the cigarette habit and provide a separate area for their use that doesn't tempt anyone to go back to the more harmful option.

Bottom line, though, is that the cruise line is there to protect "the many" and themselves. They are a business and don't owe smokers or ecig users anything except what they choose to offer them.

  10. 1) Because I don't want to assume, can you get non-alcoholic frozen drinks? What's the average cost? '

Yes there are non alcoholic frozen drinks, not sure of the cost

    2) Aside from the MDR and the buffet, what other free dining choices are there?

NCL's website will give you more detailed info on free dining venues but they are Main Dining Rooms (Taste and Savor), Tropicana Room, Flamingo Grill, O'Sheehans and the buffet

    3) Is the ropes course something you would do multiple times during the cruise?

Totally depends on how much you enjoy it. We did it three times. It's large and has many options so it's not the same if you don't want it to be. Make sure you bring closed toe sports shoes

    4) How bad are the lines for the water slides?

Lines weren't long and they went super fast.

    5) Does the ship feel "crowded"? We'll be cruising in June, so I know it will be the busy season.

No, we were amazed at how spacious it was. At times the buffet was crowded but since it's super long, there was always some place to sit
