  1. As a teenage girl my wife was fortunate to cruise with her mother and elder sister on both the Northern Star and the Ocean Monarch, on one of the ships they shared a cabin for four with another female passenger who was travelling on her own, the toilet and shower facilities were along the corridor from their cabin. They did however have morning tea delivered to the cabin.

How things have changed, I regard myself as being very fortunate that I can now enjoy my cruise holidays, despite having been on Azura and Ventura a number of times I look forward to every cruise I take. Due to reports of small balconies on The Britannia class of ships we have as yet not booked a cruise on her but the future beckons.

    Happy cruising to you all.

  2. Booked for Azura Caribbean January 2016 and 2017. Normally go at end of February but no flights from Glasgow to suit us for the next two years.

Don't know why P&O have changed the flight dates but it is a pain as we like to be away for the bosses birthday on 1st March.

    Happy cruising to all.

  3. Hi Joe and Rob

Superior deluxe cabins normally have bottle of champagne on arrival, bowl of fruit , small box of chocolates, flowers in cabin, canapés twice on 14 night cruise you do not have to order( personally I would quite happily miss out on them).

You get P&O slippers(I have big feet they don't fit), towelling bath robes, binoculars and an atlas.

Out of them all I am quite happy with the cabin which we have had three times, only a shower no bath, the bath robes and champagne are fine but the rest I can do without.

    Do enjoy your cruise.

  4. Hi Shallwe

We cruise in the Caribbean every year and I take my own snorkelling mask and tube, it is not very heavy in the big scheme of things. I would assume as a regular diver you would prefer to use your own equipment as you know where it's been.

  5. I would think that if P&O think a mattress needs replaced it is only fit for the refuse tip and not worth buying. As I have previously said I bought a brand new bed including mattress direct from Sealy and in my view it was money very well spent. Three years on I still have a very comfortable sleep and no adverse effects on my back.

My better half and I have just returned home from the Ventura after an excellent cruise, we had no problems getting sunbeds only one required for the boss as due to back problems I can get into a lounger but cannot get back out.

With the exception of one pretentious prat we met in the dining room all the people we met were just like us, people enjoying their holiday. We enjoyed our cruise so much we booked up on board for next year on Azura.

We have cruised with P&O since 2005 and never had a bad cruise they just keep getting better, but there again we don't go looking for things to complain about.

Life is for living not for complaining about trivia.

  7. The deck 15 Pizzaria has a menu of 5 Pizzas, but the chefs will make you any pizza you request as long as they have the ingredients and are not to busy EG: Sea days when they can be run of their feet.

On arrival I make my way to the Pizzaria introduce myself to the Pizza chef and ask him/ her if there would be a problem making the Pizza I Like so far they have always accomadated me.

The Deck 15 Burger bar normally does Burgers, hotdogs, chicken fillets and fish goujons and of course chips.

Being a regular user of both facilities at lunch time I have always found their products to be very tasty and enjoyable.

  9. Hi Stewart

Please wish Fiona all the best from us for her future career, if she decides to have another trip on the cruise ships please post and let us know if she is going to stay with P&O as we are on Azura in January.

It was nice to see two Scots in the Headliners this year, a couple of years ago we met a young man from Renfrew who was also a singer with that seasons troupe.

    All the best to you.

    Jim.

  10. Hi Wilson

Off the top of my head I think the cheapest was £13.95 for three glasses, working upwards. In my opinion the drinks prices onboard are not expensive they are on par with our local pub. For example pint of "Peroni" lager in Breakers Bar £4.25 in local pub £4.50.

  11. We have just returned from an excellent cruise on Ventura, we attended all the shows by the "Headliners" and despite having seen the shows on other cruises, we enjoyed them all again each group of performers put their own stamp on the performances.

BigMac 1953 ( Stewart) your money was well spent Fiona was a very good, confident, Proffesonal performer. Had a wee word with her at the end of one of the shows, she was mortified when I told her "Dad" had asked for a report on her performance. You can tell her that we enjoyed all the shows the whole troupe gelled very well and complimented each other's talents.

  12. Hi newbieafloat

Just home from Ventura We can highly recommend the Glasshouse as it is our favourite bar on the ship. The Tapas menu is excellent and is available from when th bar opens upto about 9.30/10.00pm and is priced at £5.25 per person, there are various wine flights available and they are slightly cheaper than buying individual glasses. You can also have full meals including Surf N Turf, Fish N Chips etc, they also hold a Taster Dinner 2 or 3 times a cruise at £30.00 per person, this is a four course meal with a glass of wine to match each course and is well worth the money, they only cater for appox 24 people per meal.

During the evening part of the Beachhouse is turned into a waiter served restaurant serving various dishes including Lava Rock cooked Fillet Steak and other such dishes, there is a cover charge of £5.00 per person and a very small supplement on some of the dishes eg: £2.50 for the steak. We also like this venue but be warned it is popular, there is no booking but if busy they will give you a pager.

We also ate in East, I was not convinced I would like it but I have to say both meals we had there were excellent.

Most days we had a pizza from the Pizzaria on deck 15, while they only list 5 pizzas, they will make you one of you own choice as long as they have the ingredients and are not to busy

Finally the main dining room, we were on freedom dining in the Cinammon Dining Room and found all the food to be of good quality, served hot and in my opinion very tasty although others said they found the food bland. We are all different where food is concerned.

All the staff were friendly and helpful and prepared to interact with passengers.

Do enjoy your cruise, we booked for Azura next January while we were onboard.

  13. Hi Presto

I have been lucky enough to have been able to cruise since 2005, I know when I board the ship not everything will suit me. If I wanted everything to meet my standards I would cruise unaccompanied on a luxury yacht, that I cannot afford and do not wish to do.

A modern cruise ship caters for most passengers, we all have lines/ships which meet our particular needs. However there seem to be people who continually try to get lines who do not meet their needs or wants to change to suit them and to be polite it P****s me off.

    Stick to what you like.

  14. Perhaps if P&O were to reinstate all the small things they have cut back on, such as complimentary drinks they would have to increase The price of their cruises.

I started cruising with P&O in 2005 and taking everything into account I am not paying much more than I did ten years ago.

On a Caribbean cruise there are approx eight flights carrying approx 250 per flight bearing in mind most of these passengers will be old enought to drink that is 2000 pass x 3 drinks at £2.00 per drink = £12000 per cruise just for complimentary drinks. Bear in mind this may not be actual cost as I have been on flights where more drinks were consumed by some passengers.

We as cruisers cannot have it all our own way, we seem to expect more for less every year, P&O like other lines area business not a charity.

  15. Ho Figgywig

There is a Sailaway from every port however there is only one GBS per cruise, while the ship is in the Caribbean the GBS is normally held near the end of the cruise. And despite what some have said on here they do not wait until a Geman ship is in port to play the "Dambusters" theme it is played as part of a song "Pianoman"

While not everyone's choice of entertainment it is in my opinion a harmless 45 minutes out of a 14 night cruise which both my wife and our cruise friends all enjoy.

  16. Some people may not like the Sailaway and Great British Sailaways but others do including some passengers on ships docked alongside P&O ships as this post from another lines message board indicates.

    "

I wish P&O would send Britannia to the U.S. for some cruises. Aboard the Noordam in January, we shared a pier with Azura at Grand Turk. She sailed before we did and, as a witness to her sailaway party, it exceeded anything I have seen before. I think P&O might find an interested group of guests on this side of the pond if they were to re-think their scheduling and itineraries." Perhaps we BRITISH take ourselves too seriously a need to "Chill Out" as our friends across the pond practice.
