You have Riviera deck above you if you are on Aloha.

We have had cabins right above on Riviera deck.

No noise from above that we have ever heard.

We have this cabin A747 on our cruise next month (Feb 2019)  Is there stairs to go up or down right outside the door?  I see a little notch on the deck plan for that floor and wondering if it is easy access to the terrace pool.  Thank you.  Mary

Yeah, a lot of people have made the comment that there is too much to eat.  AF offers a pretty good solution.  Here's the other thing, CUontheC, after your dessert, they're not done bringing stuff to you.  Here comes a plate of cookies.  There seems to be a bit of variation on these.  We have received petit fours on the plate and we have received very nice candies on the plate.  By this time I am crying "Uncle."  We eat the cookies/petit fours/candies over the next few days.  Once, I don't know what the deal was, but this final plate became three plates.  We did not come near finishing those off.  Sadly, after a few days they were getting pretty stale.

OK, here is some more fun for you.  Here is the menu from our cruise, last April, on the Ruby Princess.  I don't think this menu has ever changed in the 6 or 7 year span over which we have been enjoying these.

We were on the Ruby Princess a month ago and enjoyed the Ultimate Balcony DInner one evening.  This was the fourth UBD we have enjoyed.

    The "standard" entree choice is:

    • Filet Mignon--two small filets
    • Lobster Tails--two tails
    • Surf 'n' Turf--one lobster tail and one filet

As others have mentioned, they do seem to accommodate some special requests.

We did have a centerpiece of roses on the table.  They will last for several days.

A photographer did come and took pictures before we started.  We never went to the photo gallery to claim it.  We have plenty enough pictures.

The "choice of hors d'oeurves" that CUontheC cites is a surprise to me.  We have never been offered a choice.  Maybe you have to ask.  The default on hors d'oeurves is a plate of eight canapes.  As I am writing this, I am smiling.  There are many, here on Cruise Critic, who seem to take pleasure in denigrating the canapes that Princess offers.  My wife and I like them.  So, no problem for us.  Since you are citing the Princess description, it sounds like you can request an alternative--shrimp cocktail, perhaps.

CUontheC, you will love the UBD,  I am not, by any means, a dessert person, and, I am, definitely not a chocolate person.  However, the dessert is amazing.

Omg that dessert looks amazing.  I am really looking forward to this!!!!!!!

  4. I am on the Caribbean Princess next month (Feb) and the UBD was available for pre-purchase so I purchased it for my husband and I.   It says under the UBD this:

A sumptuous four-course meal, including succulent lobster tail and juicy steak, beverage of choice, hors d'oeuvres, all served right on the balcony by our dedicated waitstaff.

No flowers mentioned and no picture.

When I google this on the Princess website it says this:

Enjoy an intimate, romantic dining experience with breathtaking views and a special meal served by your own dedicated waitstaff on your stateroom balcony. Ultimate Balcony Dining features a hosted cocktail party, fresh flowers, champagne and a deluxe four-course meal featuring delicate sweet lobster tail or juicy steak among many available delicacies.

For those who want to start the day with a romantic meal, opt for a breakfast which includes specialty pastries, fresh fruits, quiche, smoked salmon and other special treats served with a half bottle of chilled sparkling wine. This item may be ordered onboard by contacting room service or pre-purchased as a special service item (item #3009).

Available on all ships, the Ultimate Balcony Dinner is a unique Princess dining experience. This item may be  ordered onboard by contacting room service or pre-purchased as a special service item (item #3011).

So is it steak and lobster or steak or lobster? Flowers or no flowers?  I guess I will find out soon.

Yes, it is a Carnival excursion.  Um...oh, here it is:

"Waterfalls Of Damajagua - Adrenaline Adventure"

Hopefully the water won't be too cold in May!

Thank you for the info.  I hope you enjoy your cruise.  I think the water will be warm in May.  We are going in February.

Well, at least you are getting off at the ports!  Nothing wrong with lounging on a beach - that's what we did at Grand Turk last month.

We have booked an excursion at Amber Cove for an upcoming cruise, because it looks like fun, but none for Grand Turk on the same cruise - instead I think we'll maybe buy some snorkel gear and play in the water off the beach.  Or just lounge around again!

Do what you want - it's your cruise!

What excursion did you book at Amber Cove?  Is it a ship excursion?

We were on the this cruise for a B2B2B and just got home.  DH and I were invited to the bridge for a tour.  There is a video camera pointed to the side of the ship that has an excellent view of lifeboat #2 and the balconies above.  They know what happened.

We were also on this cruise and it was so frightening.   I would think they know what happened.  If it was a murder and it was not her husband then it would mean the murderer was still on the ship for the rest of the sailing.  And there is an article that said the daughter has some reservations about the fathers innocence.  It starts off saying the kids believe him but read much farther down and it says about the daughter.   I just hope they find out who did this.  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6418793/Husband-wife-plunged-death-aboard-cruise-ship-says-bathroom.html?fbclid=IwAR3y4BnaCrgglBxHOu35rkKau_ZAfB9IHLNhp7-T9LQ6mipTsG78uNgiRz8

It was before, but you had to show proof of hotel stay to get the discount. Now they may ask for hotel key or excursion ticket. The walk up rate without proper documentation is about the same as cruise excursion if you buy dinner.

It may also be offered through an online travel agent but price may be the same.

Do you know what type of buffet meal they offer?

  9. From the videos and photos I have seen, the spa looks identical Bliss/Escape/Getaway. Besides being Aft, what are the differences? What is smaller?

There are very big differences in the spa on the Escape and the Bliss. Since you only saw photos and were not on them it would be hard for you to tell. I was just on the Bliss and I did like the spa it was smaller then the Escape. The changing rooms on the Bliss are much smaller with no access directly to the spa. You also on the Escape have an area in the changing room where you can relax on loungers. The Bliss does not have this. On the Escape there are two areas with water, tea and oranges. On the Bliss there is only 1 area so you have to walk all the way across the spa if you are sitting on the far side. The areas where the regular loungers are is a little cramped on the Bliss. There was much more room on the Escape. And the Escape has two circular loungers on either end of the regular loungers and we loved those. They did not have them on the Bliss. Did I like the spa...yes on both ships. But there is a difference. If I was going to say which one I liked best I would choose the Escape. Did I have a great time...Yep!!! I have not yet seen the Encore so not sure if it will be just like the Bliss or the Escape.

  10. On our Alaska Cruise years ago we realized when boarding that something was up. A very large cosmetics and skin care company had booked over 50% of the ship for that years reward cruise. Late dining was unavailable to everyone else and they booked shows and other events off from other passengers. Not to mention a bunch of people who didn’t actually pay for their cruise seem to have a different attitude about their entitlement while on board. It really affected our enjoyment of the trip and we always double check when booking now.

I wondered about this because something is up on our cruise. My friend and her husband and my husband and I booked and received confirmation for 730 shows for Jersey Boys and Havana for our September cruise on the Bliss. That was in May. Then a week or so ago we received emails saying our showtimes are no longer there and to wait til the ship to sign up for the show. So I called NCL and was told they still showed my 730 show and this must have been sent in error. But then a few days later the shows were removed from my online itinerary. So I sent an email to Casinos at Sea and they said there is a scheduling change with the cast and that is why the 730 show is not showing up. So i thought that was odd since it is a sea day. I mean what is the cast going to do jump ship? So i called today When I called I was told this is only for our September 9th sailing. And the rep even said it was very odd. So I thought this makes no sense unless a large group just booked and they are giving them that time slot. This makes me very disappointed in NCL because we like them and sail with them often. But if this is the case and times are taken away from those already booked then that is a shame. I can't see anyone other reason that this time slot would be gone and only on our sailing. And I certainly hope it doesn't turn out the way yours did. There is a cool observation loung on the ship and there have been quite a few complaints of it being crowded. If a large group is on board i can only imagine how bad it will be. Thank you for the info....much appreciated

  11. Nope. No idea.

On other NCL megaships, they have started to move the early show to 8:00. The reservation system blocks exactly 2:00 for a dinner reservation, so a 5:30 early dinner does not allow you to book a 7:30 show (show would have to be at 7:31 for the reservation system to work).

We have our dinners booked early on the two show nights. We had confirmation of everything until of course we received the email. Well I am sure at some point it will get worked out.

Again thank you for one of the best posts about the Bliss. I enjoyed everything and am very thankful that you are so polite to answer the questions and you are awesome to post all the dailies along with menu and food pics. Where are you off to next?

  12. Hi Bird,

Love your posts and all the pics. Sure looks like you had a great time!!

I have a question that I hope you can answer.

Yesterday I got an email from NCL that my reservations for Havana and Jersey Boys (both at 7:30) were cancelled and I can rebook when I get on the ship. So I called NCL yesterday and they showed my reservations were still in tact. However today my friend, who is going with us and staying in the Haven, got the same email yesterday and today she talked to her PCC who said the 7:30 shows are no longer listed. Do you have any idea why this would have happened? We are not sailing until September. Just wonder if there was any talk on the ship as to the changes.

  13. Now underway in Puget Sound.

Dining Facts: By 1 pm, Prohibition and Cagney’s were sold out for the duration of the cruise.

Wow....that is crazy. There are going to be some disappointed passengers.

I am on the September 9th sailing. Thank goodness I made my reservations for the shows and the specialty restaurants.

Thank you for the live report from the Bliss...I am loving it!!:D

  14. Any idea of prices!?

I am in a spa balcony cabin so the spa pass comes with it. But in th past I have purchased a spa pass. My understanding from reading on cc and other forums that the price for the week is $199 per person. You can call and have it added to your booking or do it online. They only sell so many passes so if you are interested I would do it quickly.

  15. Can I ask you a few silly questions? What does one wear to and in the thermal spa? How long do you stay in there? It sounds awesome, but i have never done anything like that.

You can wear your bathing suit with a coverup or with you robe. My husband wears his with a tshirt. Then once you get inside there are robes in both the mens and ladies locker room to wear over your bathing suit.

There are loungers both mosaic tile and regular. They also have a therapy pool with jets in different heights as well as one for your neck. There is also a hot tub, ice room, sauna, steam room and salt room. You can stay as long as you want during open hours. Not certain on the Bliss but on all the other NCL ships the spa was open from 8am to 10pm. It is very relaxing. And you will have good views from the spa while sailing...especially in Alaska. As well it is chilly in Alaska and this will be a nice retreat area. We are in a spa balcony for our upcoming cruise.
