  1. I'm not surprised about the libraries. We've only sailed with HAL, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, and we have never seen the libraries busy. Makes sense to me to make better use of the space. I know if they all went away, it would make no difference in our cruise experiences. Having read through this thread, I understand why some people will be disappointed about the changes, but if they're not used much...

  2. I have a question regarding the cabanas at the Retreat. Isn't that located at the very top? Is it really windy up there and how convenient is it to get up and down from there? My right knee needs surgery, but I'm trying to avoid that for as long as I can, so stairs are an issue for me.

    Thanks! :)

  3. Seems to me, if I remember correctly that HAL leaves them up longer than some other lines. Through New Years Eve. Last year we got on Celebrity Summit on the 26th of December and I don't remember seeing any Christmas decorations. By the time Christmas is over, I personally don't really want to see any. Christmas fatigue. That's what I need a vacation from. :)

  4. They probably wouldn't have waited for the stragglers if they were just a handful, but my guess is that it was more in the hundreds. Boarding deadline was 3:30. At 4:30 my husband and I were watching a steady stream of them from our balcony leisurely strolling back to the gangway. We arrived an hour late to PC, which might not sound that bad, but it was enough to cause a domino effect and apparently give the new passengers a poor start on their vacation. :(

  5. Thanks to some people ignoring the 3:30pm deadline in Cozumel, we had to leave 1.5 hour later than scheduled. That was really crummy and inconsiderate of those people since we were already on a very tight schedule due to the propeller issue. We also had 50mph winds going back to Florida from Mexico, so we arrived later than scheduled this morning. That's why the boarding was delayed as well. Also, people with flights to catch had to call their respective airlines and most of their flights were delayed affecting hundreds of airline passengers too. Again, thanks to those people getting back late onboard in Mexico....

Other than that, we had a great trip! Good luck with yours. :)

  6. Yes, and if you print and fold your own paper tags instead, for about a third of that cost you can order a set of 8 heavy plastic luggage tag holders that are much more secure and that you can use over and over again!

    Amazon Cruise Luggage Tag Holders

That's what we did and if you have Amazon Prime then the shipping is free. We got some last year for Holland America. HAL and RCCL are completely different in size, but I figured we'll go with both cruise lines again so will get multiple uses out of them. :)

  7. Just get me on the damn ship. I dont care where it goes. In fact, I dont care if we go out in the ocean and make big circles for 7 days. I do not and will not book a cruise based on the ports as that is not why I cruise. I realize we or at least I am in a minority though.

Lol! I do look forward to the ports and I do research before I book. We also paid a lot of money for this trip, but this close to sailing, what can we do? Even if they gave us all our money back, it's a bit tight to plan a new vacation with only a week to go. A lot of it is attitude. We are easy going people and we will enjoy this trip regardless of where it goes. I'm not going to get on the ship with a bad attitude because there have been changes to the itinerary. That pretty much guarantees a bad experience, right off the bat.

    Relax. Enjoy...have a Guinness! ;)

  8. It is posted on the RCL website about the itinerary change so it's not like RCL is keeping anything a secret - it says an OBC will be given on the Dec 21 cruise.

I've been on many ships and we've missed ports for dozens of reasons but that's part of cruising. The cruise line doesn't owe anybody anything (that's why you should read your cruise contract) and yes, it does inconvenience some people but if you want to be guaranteed a specific port, fly there and stay in a hotel. Not trying to be condescending, it's just that some people think that just because they paid their money, everything should go perfectly as advertised. In the travel world, nothing is perfect and never will be. The complainers seem to be rampant on Cruise Critic. A cruise is still better than flying anywhere, in my opinion. Rant over.

Is there a "Like" button somewhere? :)
