Sorry for the confusion, but I know and don't care about reservations for the headliner acts. I am trying to plan my nights around specialty restaurant reservations and other activities. And as you wrote above..." but people do like to plan...."

Tim - exactly what I'm trying to do......want to do specialty restaurant but also don't want to miss a great show!

I think it really varies. I'm sailing on 4/1 and the reservations opened up on 3/6 mid-morning. But I've heard different windows - like 30 days out, or the first day of the month prior to the sailing - from others.

Thank you njsmom - I will keep checking.  Can you tell me if you were looking online or on the app?  I have heard it may show up at different times in each.

  3. Can anyone share info about taxi time and costs from the port to the popular beaches - Megan's Bay, Sapphire and Coki?

Also has anyone been to Emerald beach?

looking for a "quieter" option but would also like restaurant and rest rooms available.  Also enough taxi traffic to ensure timely return to ship (definitely don't want to be a pier runner).

    Thanks,

    Robin

  4. Hi all,

Going soon on Symphony.  No intention to buy voom since the main purpose is rest and relaxation.

However, I do use my apple watch to monitor my sleep and exercise activity.

Does anyone have experience with how to sync back to my iphone without buying the voom package?  Previously had a fitbit and lost info, so looking for a way to maintain with the apple watch.

I have verizon and will be connecting to local internet and checking in on the islands - is that going to be enough to sync?

    Any tips/tricks much appreciated.

    Happy Cruising,

    Robin

  5. Hi all,

First cruise in 3 years, and boy have things changed!

So, we now have to check in on the app 45 days before the cruise.  I'm hearing stories of people logging on at exactly 12:01 am of the day of check in - is that really when the check in process opens?  Is it 12:01 EST, or 12:01 in whatever time zone you are in?

What happens if I select a time of 11, but arrive late (flight comes in that morning) - do I just go direct to port and apologize for tardiness?

Also heard that you can log on, start the check in process just to secure your time, then finish it up later - has anyone done this?

What exactly do you need to complete the check in process?  Used to be:  passport, credit card, flight info.  Do we now need to upload photos of our vax cards?

Thank you all for your sharing of knowledge - I'm an anxious control freak so just looking for some insights on what I need to do.

    Happy cruising to all!

  6. I can't wait to:

get a massage - even if it is a little overpriced

attend the muster drill - isn't that everyone's favorite activity, lol?

eat shrimp cocktail for my appetizer every night

end every day on my balcony reading the next day's cruise compass

line up my clothes in the closet in order of wearing to make sure they all still fit

have the best night's sleep while being rocked by the ship on the ocean

  7. Flying in/out of Orlando for Harmony cruise out of Port Canaveral.

Looking for suggestions on transport....have seen Cocoa Beach Shuttle mentioned and will be looking into that as option when we arrive, but will be doing walk off upon cruise return.  We are taking our chances on a 10:45 flight home so need an option that will get us to airport quickly.

Should we just take taxi from port to airport?  Anyone have recent experience they can share?  Cost, time, availability, etc?

I'm a serious planner so need as much details as you can provide.

    Thanks!

  8. Hello,

Looking for a relaxing location on 7 mile beach - with facilities, reasonably priced chair & umbrella and food. Calico Jack's keeps coming up here on CC and RCI FB page. Hubby was looking into it and it sounds like it is more of a "party" type atmosphere - loud music, etc.

Wondering if anyone has first hand experience they can share?

Also, if we take taxi and not bus, how long of drive from pier - so we can allow enough time to get back to tender?

    Thanks,

    Robin

  9. I also suffer from seasickness. Dramamine makes me sleep all the time, Bonine helps but only in calm seas. Wrist bands did nothing and ginger upset my stomach. The only relief I got is from the ship's doctor prescription of Reglan - I believe my doc at home said it was an early anti-nausea med for chemo patients. I now get the generic from my GP at home and start taking 24 hours before cruise leaves. I take 2/day and don't even take in morning if going ashore all day. For me, the key is to prevent seasickness - once I get it, I am done and the only relief I will have is when the boat stops moving.

I don't like taking meds - and this one has a lot of precautions specifically if you have history of Parkinsons. But my doc feels one cruise/year and the small amount I take shouldn't impact me.

I will be researching the essential oils someone here posted about - that is new to me and certainly something I will investigate.

Good luck and know that if it is really bad the ship's doctor can put you on an IV and rehydrate you with a dose of anti-nausea meds. Check if your personal health insurance will cover and possibly your travel insurance as well. But you will need to pay doc at time of service and deal with reimbursement when you get home.

  10. Cathy,

the other one is "niksmom" as the name who started the post - I think she was the one who put the menus in - towards the end - she also has a lot of photos in there.

We too are going in May and I had also been looking and found these 2 threads with lots of information as well as reviews that were fair and honest. they both brought out good and bad in a nice balance, also picked up a few tips from them and/or other posters on the thread.

  11. Cathy,

there are a couple of threads by people who have sailed on Allure recently - I'm pretty sure one put menus in there. search on the right side for posts about Allure and you will see 2 around February time frame that have a LOT of posts. I'm pretty sure one was from "birdtraveler" or a name like that (which I noticed because I'm robinbirdie, lol), sorry but can't recall the other OP.

keep in mind the timing of the menus may change based on your itinerary and which days are formals.

  12. Hi all,

I may be having a blonde, over 50 moment here.

I booked Allure thru a T/A and paperwork says dinner is 8 pm - I asked for the second seating, but I am thinking that was 8:30. Is the second seating now 8 pm? Did they put me in My time for 8 and I didn't know it? I guess it really doesn't matter what time as long as my show schedule still works.

Guess I will have to call T/A tomorrow and ask, but figured I'd reach out here and see if anyone has any thoughts.

    Robin (blonde and over 50)

  13. Quick question - hope someone has experienced this before.

I have the RCL Visa through BOA. Looking to cash in points for OBC credit now to book excursion.

Can I cash in more points right before I go to have extra OBC for spending $?

So, basically asking if I can do multiple cash in's at different times for same reservation #.

Hubby says ask credit card company or Royal, but hoping someone here has done recently and I won't have to spend time on phone with them.....

    Thanks!

  14. Hi all,

Been a while since I have stopped in OSJ - does anyone know if the Coach/Ralph Lauren Polo stores are still within walking distance to port? I think it was on Calle de Cristo?

Was looking for stores on Coach site and sounds like there is an outlet center on PR and it just doesn't sound like the place I had been to.

Any recent cruisers that can shed some light for me?

    Robin

  15. HI all

was reviewing my statement to see how much I can cash in for OBC - I have enough points to upgrade my ocean view to a balcony.....but have questions.

I booked my trip with a TA and have OBC, dinner coupon, and a few other goodies. I'm diamond and own stock and all my goodies should NOT disallow my stock OBC.

So, my question is - will I lose my freebies if I use my credit card points to upgrade to a balcony? Who do I call - my TA or RCI or credit card company? If I upgrade to balcony will I lose my stock OBC?

Not sure if anyone has ever done this, but figured I'd get some opinions before I start to make calls.

    Thanks,

    Robin

  16. Cruising on the Adventure Feb 11, 2107, (first time Royal cruiser) and would like to know if they have a sauna, and those heated tiles loungers in the spa area? Are they an extra charge? I have not been able to find any pictures showing such things.

Also, do they have washers and dryers available?

    Looking forward to the cruise.

    Thanks

    Dez

    Dez,

no washers/dryers available, but about half way through trip they run a special on a bag of laundry to be washed, dried and returned - I think it was in the $25-$30 range, and was a bag about the size of a plastic grocery store bag. Personally, not worth it to me. Also, no irons allowed on board, but I always bring my little hand held steamer bought at Target about $25 and it does a great job.

Have a blast - Adventure is awesome!

  17. Less than 2 weeks for us..

How long was you wait going through TSA security? Lots of disgruntled passengers recently in the continental U.S.

    David :D

This was our first time through Puerto Rico. The line seemed long, but it moved. Honestly, the passengers were more the problem - people trying to put things through that they shouldn't, like liquids in excess of allowable, one guy had a money clip in his pocket (made of metal) that he didn't take out, etc.

We probably waited for security a good 45 minutes and I have a feeling some people may have missed flights due to it.

  18. We just got off Adventure yesterday. I'll be writing a detailed review soon, but wanted to let everyone know it was a great time. The ship is dated - yes, but it is clean, maintained, friendly staff, good food and great service! This was my 16th cruise, I'm in my late 40's and very active. I'm posting this because there are a LOT of negatives being said and I did NOT see anything bad on this trip. We have done Voyager class, Freedom, and Oasis so I'm certainly not a novice to cruising and have a lot to compare to. We are looking to book another trip on Adventure next year - after the drydock refurbs, but would not hesitate to book again sooner.

If anyone has ANY questions - post on and I'll try to answer. I have all 7 days of compasses and took photos of each day menu - including desserts.

    Again, any questions just ask....

    Robin
