  1. just an fyi - double check the tipping on the spa services. they automatically add something - I think it was 18% as a tip, but they calculate it on the reduced amount - it was funny for me trying to do math after a relaxing massage and I finally asked my dh to pick me up and tally the bill (my brain was totally on vacation, lol). I just felt bad because the spa staff may not be receiving the correct amount.

  2. i would suggest your wife take her scooter off the ship - from what I remember the pier is a very long walk. once you get through the gates (and past the photographers) she should just bear to the left - you will see where the zip line ends and she can take her scooter to the edge of the sand area there. it wont be a very long walk across the sand.

be sure to wear something colorful or use walky-talkies to let her know when you are coming down. it's really, really long zip line and she will not know it is you until you are already done.

but it is an absolutely awesome experience - enjoy!

  3. Hello all,

We are fairly new to cruising. We are cruising on the RC Oasis of the Seas this summer for a 7 night trip. Via our travel agent and the RC credit card we have racked up about $400 on board credit. I'd like to use the money to reserve restaurants, but if I pre-book I have to pay up front as well. From other cruisers' experiences, my question is two fold: 1) If I make reservations for a restaurant once on board, will it deduct from my OBC? 2) Is it okay to book restaurants once on board or will we miss out by not having a reservation?

    Thanks so much!

    Philip,

Like you, I was uncertain about booking in advance. I was pleasantly surprised on both of my last 2 cruises that there were acceptable times available. during the trip, we decided to try another restaurant and were able to get in there as well. just keep your show schedule handy to make sure you don't have any conflicts when you book your dining reservation. and be flexible on the time you wish to dine will give you even more options.

good luck, relax and have a wonderful time.

  4. lots of food options on Oasis. Agree with all that the Wipout cafe is your best food option near pools and with wet bathing suit.

Park Cafe is a far ways away from the pool, but has other options for food. In addition to the fantastic beef sandwich, they will custom make salads for you, each day the salad options are different some days shrimp is an option. They also have at least 2 different soups, and a variety of other sandwiches - mostly panini types which they make fresh and then bring to your table for you. there are also desserts available - similar to the buffet options, but more limited as the space is much smaller.

The dog house (near the carousel) is new, so I can't speak for the food there, but RCI doesn't keep anything around that doesn't do well and the dog house is on other ships, so I would imagine it is good.

You can also go into the buffet (wearing a coverup), make a plate and eat outside at the pool area - I believe the buffet is on the same deck or within 1 up/down.

  5. Going to be sailing on Oasis in May for Western itinerary.

Curious if anyone has seen updated menu for main dining?

Would like to book specialty restaurant, but don't want to miss my favorite meals in mdr. Not sure if changes have been made post renovation, so figured I'd post out and see if anyone has any help.

    Thanks!

  6. I am a Diamond level on RCCL and traveled with my sister last summer (her first cruise on RCCL). She accompanied me to all events and into Diamond lounge and no one even asked about her status. Keep your friend with you and if anyone asks, just flash your card with the higher status, smile and thank every employee you meet and have contact with - most likely no one will bother either of you.

    Have fun!

  7. I've done about a dozen cruises on Royal - some good, some great, some not so great. But any day on a cruise is still better than a day at work, right??

I'll be on Vision in July with my 3 sisters. Tried to make show reservations last night and it told me they are "not available" and to check when I get on the ship.

Maybe I'm just used to doing reservations because I'm usually on bigger ships (just got off Oasis last week), but does anyone know if you need to reserve shows?

    Thanks!!

  8. Last year was our first time cruising as Diamond members. We had heard great things about the lounge and checked it out. We did not find it overly crowded (we had later seating) and enjoyed some snacks and complimentary drinks before our dinner.

I did not see anyone tip the wait staff with either cash or signing a slip to bill your onboard account. Should they be tipped? If so, when - each drink they serve, end of each visit, or end of cruise? There were 3 different staff so trying to keep track of who served you when/how many times would be too much for my on vacation brain to process.

Also, our service from the wait staff was really not very good. There were more than 3 occasions when we arrived and sat for over 15 minutes without being acknowledged or had our drink order taken. Again, it was NOT busy - only about 15 people in the lounge and 3 wait staff. I'm just wondering if we were supposed to tip and didn't and that's why our service deteriorated?

Also, what exactly does the concierge in the lounge do? Each time we were there, she greeted everyone upon entrance from a desk area, but stayed at the desk the entire time.

We are cruising again on Oasis in May and want to have an understanding of how this works so I follow the proper protocol.

    Any input/experience is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Robin

  9. Hi all,

My first time cruising out of Fort Lauderdale. Just 2 adults, mid-40's with no health issues aside from a tendency to overpack, lol. A co-worker recommends a taxi from airport to pier rather than a shuttle - said it's cheaper. Would you all agree? Any idea on a cost/time? Rough estimate is fine, not looking for anything exact, just want to make sure taxi driver doesn't try to pad the trip/fare by taking us on a 2 hour tour of the city.

    Thanks,

    Robin
