1. OK folks. Last year I lost about 25-30 lbs after a breakup. We are back together and happy, but from the combination of happiness, the stress of buying a house and getting a new job, a longer commute, and just all around laziness, I am back up in weight. Our cruise is 69 days out. All summer/early fall, I kept telling myself I wold portion control and eat better, but "I"ll start tomorrow!!" turned into "I'll start Monday!" which turned into "I'll just get through the busy workweek!" and so on.

I spend a lot of time lurking the boards but wanted to start a thread to hold myself accountable! In general, I hate talking about eating well and weight loss... and I think that is part of my problem. I am able to just hide it all away.

I know one of my downfalls is reverting to convenient fast food/take out. So help me out - what are your favorite plan ahead/easy to make/easy to clean up ideas? What's your go-to breakfast? What's your go-to work lunch?

69 days... a lot can change in 69 days and I am determined to see how much! I don't want to be ashamed to be in photos! So here we go!

  2. Following.

I have not been to Grand Turk yet myself, but am going there on our upcoming cruise in January. From my research, all the beaches in Grand Turk are public, so no one can kick you off the beach. There is a resort on Pillory Beach and some people have said they rent chairs, most have said they don't.

  3. On Princess when there's a big game going on, Princess will open up a lounge and show the game on a big screen. Also, they have a layout of food like chicken wings, ribs, etc. I'd like to see something like that on Carnival. They also had a waiter going around getting drinks for everyone. It was a big hit and the lounge was packed.

    That sounds AWESOME.

  4. I think it would be awesome to be able to get the room service items when you're sitting in the sports bar or anywhere decks 3-5 where there is not a lot of food (at a bar though - not someone coming to a random couch or lounge chair or anything). We go in January and want to watch the playoff games and it'd be great to be able to get a sandwich. It's not a huge deal to go get something from Lido, but when you don't want to miss the game, it'd be nice to have something come to you.

This is a legit question - NOT a complaint - what do you think would be the reasoning behind only delivering to rooms, not to a bar? Just curious. NOT saying they should, not saying I hate that they don't - just thinking. My guess would be not opening a can of worms - if you deliver to a bar, why not to a specific lounge chair or seat on promenade... etc, etc. Any other thoughts?

  5. Mushrooms!!! Something about eating fungus that turns me off and the texture is just ew. Especially when you can see the gills - GROSS!! I wish I liked them - my sister and I go to the Melting Pot a lot and she makes the stuffed mushrooms - they look good but noooo thank you

I really really wish I liked beer. But it's just gross to me. There's some common taste (maybe the yeast?) that I taste even in hard cider and it just makes me want to vomit.

    Celery. UGH. I HATE celery!!!

    Also - mussels/clams/oysters.

  6. I will try and remember to take my camera to the MDR and take pics of the menus. I do not usually do food porn pics, but maybe I will this time. I will not be going the first night, but every night after we will.

We have an aft cabin on deck 7, cabin 7442.

I am a cocktail drinker as well, although I will have 3 bottles of wine this time so I may not drink too much from the bars this time. I will try and take note of what they have though!

Don't go to any trouble on my account!! If you happen to get the info for other reasons or for a review, that's fantastic - but if it's not your normal MO to take pics, I have lots of other references. I guess I just always seem to think there will be a few changes here and there - but I will just be pleasantly surprised in January :)

  7. Leelo - have you looked at the deck plans? Same drink menus as on every other ship.

No Alchemy Bar. Wine bar instead back there. No other "speciality" bars, really. There's a bar up on Serenity Deck, starboard. Bars in the main pool area and the Liner Bar, aft. All the usual venues on Atlantic and Promenade decks, plus the Lobby bar.

Again, although I've been on the ship already, I'm not very helpful. I'm a beer/wine drinker. On the rare occasions I want something else, I've always been able to get it at any of the bars.

Thanks! Yes, I did look at deck plans - I just thought I had seen conflicting info at one point about the rum bar. Wishful thinking, maybe?? Also - I wasn't sure if the pool bar had different items than, say, the liner bar. Thanks!!

  8. Have fun!!!

Would love to see pictures of the MDR menus.

What kind of cabin are you in and what deck? I'd be curious to know what your room temperature is like.

Also - and someone may be able to answer this already - what bars are on Lido deck? And what are their drink menus? I usually hit Red Frog Rum Bar or Alchemy Bar; I know there is no Alchemy Bar, but I don't think they have the Rum Bar either on Splendor. Want to start planning my drink options (I don't like wine or beer, so cocktails all the way!!) :p

    Thanks!!

  9. I would love to see ceiling fans, or a stand up fan for each room. Its luck of the draw if you request one whether you will get it or not. Also a way to set a "DAILY" limit on S&S card. Some days I want to sleep in and DS wants to go go go, and I have to get up and run down to the kiosk to up his limit his daily amount.

YES. We have been fortunate enough to get a fan in the past and I am seriously considering bring a small one on our next cruise because I'm anxious we won't get one again and I cannot sleep if I'm too hot! So I would love to see a fan or better/lower thermostat control.

I would also appreciate nightlights in the bathroom and a clock/alarm clock.

As far as toiletries, I'd much rather bring my own. Give me hand soap and that's it. Everyone has such different preferences most of it would either go to waste or just be hoarded by kids (I know I always did at hotels when I was a kid!).

To the poster who requested a cover for the remote, I do think that's a good idea. Until there is a solution, for those who want something like that, you could bring a quart size ziplock baggie to use. Or a trazel size pack of Lysol wipes.

To the OP who likes disposable slippers, I have to say I disagree - I think it sounds very wasteful. Everyone is entitled to their own wants and opinions - I just can't back this one.

  10. You have to remember this: most people have the best job they could get. Recognition of this helps set expectations and keep the frustration level down when you encounter such stuff as this.

I imagine you might get some heat for this comment, but I agree with you. That is a good way of saying it.

  11.
A coworker of mine has been busted twice - once for hiding beer in the pack of soda, and the other time for putting vodka in water bottles. Both times he said he was pulled aside while they took his booze, and he said he was mortified as his family (and others) watched him from afar.
I think they used to do that but have stopped and now just confiscate it no questions asked. Likely depends on the port and the personnel.
  12. Well I guess this kind of answers this question.

On my first cruise, we had the American Table menus on the liberty. They only sang at dinner during elegant evenings. It was cute, but I could see how it would get old if it was every night. So that would be my vote.

  13. This will be on a Sunday. It looks like the trains leave every hour. We will have pleeeenty of time before the flight - doesn't leave til about 5. But that means we'll be able to watch football!

I did look at renting a car, but it seemed more expensive. Not prohibitive, but trirail looked pretty cheap (would rather spend money on umbrella drinks). I'll check it out again before we make a final decision. Will need to factor in cost to get from PoM to rail station. Thank you!

  14. We are flying into FLL before our cruise but looks better to fly out of PBI afterwards. Has anyone had experience getting from PoM to PBI via the metro rail? Which station did you go to from PoM - we were thinking the Miami Airport station and ride all the way up. How did you get from PoM to station? Cab/Uber? Thanks in advance - any advice is appreciated!!

  15. Either everyone agrees with my opinions, or not many Carnival Cheerleaders are reading this review. I think I have been pretty honest and as unbiased as possible in writing the review so far. I have provided my opinions regarding what I liked and disliked about Carnival and the Splendor.

Although I have not slammed Carnival, I would have expected a few people to "defend" their cruise line or the ship when I mention the things/services I did not find acceptable, or when I ranked RCI above Carnival in particular categories.

Uh oh... I feel like you're asking for it on this one!!!

Maybe since you've been about as objective as you can (a lot of comparison in general comes down to personal preference) and you are so calm and rational in how you state things, people are learning from example!!!

  16. We did the all inclusive day at Isla Pasion. You take a boat ride over to a private beach, all you can eat, all you can drink. Lots of loungers and umbrellas, blow up toys in the water. There was a lot of seaweed but the beach was nice otherwise. Food was great, margaritas were awesome. Staff was EXCELLENT. We had a great day :)
