  1. Is the soda package still available? I can't find it on the website under Drinks Packages.

If so can anyone tell me what it includes...

Just thought it would be a good idea for my tonics for my G & T now they are charging for the soda gun...

  2. Does drinking (the ships) hot beverages 'tea/coffee' have any adverse effect to your ankles.
I still have the ships hot drinks so obviously drinking some ships water but try to limit it by drinking bottled water where possible and sticking to wine at dinner....it has definitely helped.

  3. Totally agree with your facts about the water. I don't normally suffer from swollen ankles and was puzzled as to why it happened on board ship. I started a thread before my last long cruise and as an experiment only drank bottled water.

Problem solved!... I bought the 6 bottle offer and bought a bottle or 2 back if possible when I was in port.

Small price to pay in my opinion...

  4. I usually travel solo and do like a large table. I always make a point of suggesting that we sit in a different seat each evening as you obviously talk to your immediate neighbours the most. However on my last longish voyage on QM2 I was at a round table of 6 solos and found that we had some very interesting dinner table chat as we could all join in. Hope this helps....

  5. Oops SR, I'm at Sea at the moment and only just clocked in ;)... Yes quite right, me too. I've never paid any more than the usual 175% on Cunard , and of course as a seasoned Cunard guest, I've been known to have been offered an upgraded or two ..........three or even four ... ;p

Don't know how you are so lucky with upgrades.... I am platinum and usually travel solo. Not had an upgrade yet!!

  6. Have to disagree with some of your answers. The dance lessons are held every sea day at 12.15 and sometimes repeated at a more advanced level at 5pm. I have never known there be a lesson in the evening but I do eat late so maybe I have missed it.

Also QM2 has the biggest ballroom at sea not the only one.....

  7. Correct me if I'm wrong....sure someone will 😉 but my understanding is that there is no charge for the tonic mixer from the hose so maybe you have to ask specifically for a bottle or can....

  8. Once you have been upgraded you can't go back to the original cabin. If you are happy with it it's best to say no upgrade. On my recent QM2 voyage I had an obstructed balcony which I picked as it was between 2 lifeboats. I was very pleased with it as I still got the sun and a bit of a view. I said no upgrade as I was surprised to learn that the upgrade would have been a sheltered balcony...Bear in mind that on a TA there is not much to look at and the Ib balconies are on deck 8 in a very handy position. Hope this helps...

  10. I will be on QE from Southampton to San Francisco at the start of next year's WC. There is an overnight on board before disembarking and I have just one night in a hotel before my flight on the following evening. This means that I will have 2 full days and most of the final day to see the sights. My question is whether that is enough. I do not want to go to Alcatraz but want to see as much as I can of San Francisco. I am wondering whether to add on a couple more days but this is going to be expensive as I will have to pay a flight amendment fee and single supplement in the hotel. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  11. The original trip we looked at (and wanted) is what you are doing, ie 3 nights in Las Vegas after disembarkation; it sounds fab and would have ticked 2 items off our bucket list, the 1st one being the Panama Canal. However, circumstances changed and we decided to simply go with the 3 nights in SF. The price difference covers getting to Southampton (from Manchester), gratuities and the flight supplement. It's quite extraordinary to see the difference in price based simply on where we have chosen to spend 3 extra nights.

Las Vegas is still on the list but will have to wait a bit longer!!

Regarding roll calls. They are very much hit and miss. Whether it is worth starting one I don't know but in the meantime we can always ask any questions here. Lots of people with a wealth of information prepared to share on this forum.

Thanks for starting off the roll call. I think it's better to discuss a particular cruise there than on a general forum. I also have to get to Southampton from Manchester but have yet to arrange that. ...

  12. Hi Babs

We're on the same cruise as you (from Southampton) and when we booked we were able to add on 3 nights in Las Vegas after SF. We also paid a little extra for premium economy flights home via Montreal. Like you, we got no 'extras' but thought the price we paid was very fair.

We've only ever cruised with Princess before and are a little apprehensive! Sorry if this s the wrong place to ask, but being a newbie I couldn't find a roll call for this cruise - am I looking in the wrong places or has it not been started yet?

Hi....I am on the same cruise and there is no roll call for the Southampton to San Francisco segment yet....methinks we need to start one 😊

  13. Yes but I meant if I am on 2 segments I will get another 4 hours after Fort Lauderdale. I'll just wait and see. ..

  14. Last year we did S'ton to LA on QV and this was definitely classed as 2 legs for the internet. Even better, any unused minutes could be carried over.

Good news! I will be platinum by then so should have 8 hours 😊

  15. It might well be a case of having to wait until we are on board and then asking. I'm hoping it's going to be the 2 legs because I don't want to carry my laptop with me at every port of call. Whilst not that big it gets heavy after a while and I'd rather spend my time exploring than having to look for somewhere with internet connection. And for those who say why bother, 5 weeks away (we have time in SF at the end of the cruise) without contact with family is too long.

Re the roll call: I said hi and asked a couple of questions but nearly two pages later I'm still waiting for a response!! I can find answers to my questions, but I was hoping for personal observations. Roll calls can really be a case of 'hit and miss'. There's a long thread about them on the Ask A Cruise Question forum.

You will have to treat yourself to a tablet or I pad!!...save lugging a laptop.

Re the roll call....most of the discussion seems to be for after we have left.

I am doing the last segment on Queen Mary 2 soon and there is a separate roll call for this which is very active..

  16. We will be on the Queen Elizabeth Southampton to San Francisco in January 2018. As gold tier members I know we are entitled to free wifi but will it be just the one block of 2 hours each or will we get more?

It all depends if it is classed as 2 legs....1 to FL and FL to SF. ...

I am on the same voyage. I can only find a Roll call for the full World Cruise. Perhaps we need to start a new one?

  17. I am doing the same cruise from Southampton to San Francisco with a night in SF at the end. The tour operator said they couldn't give OBC as they had special rates from Cunard. I even had paid a future cruise deposit for OBC and they said they couldn't honour that either. I know we are not allowed to name the TA but they are very well known and do lots if packages with Cunard...

  18. And it's a compromise. The original trip was Queen Elizabeth to San Francisco and then three nights in Las Vegas. Price although reasonable was truly at the top end of our finances but we both fancied it.

However common sense has prevailed and we have just BOOKED the trip to SF with three nights there in a decent sounding hotel close to Fisherman's Wharf. Even allowing for a supplement for flying to Manchester it is within our 'comfort zone'

We are very happy with our decision and apologise now for the fact that I am bound to be 'pestering' you with lots of questions between now and the end of the year :D

I had the exact same dilemma myself but have compromised like you and just today booked this sector with time in San Francisco before flying home.

Another tick off my bucket list! It looks like a great trip 😊

  19. This used to happen to me too & in my case I found it was a combination of two things: 1) drinking the water onboard & 2) taking Dramamine. I switched to drinking bottled water & taking Benadryl for seasickness (yes it does work) & no more swelling!!

That's interesting. ..hadn't thought it might be a side effect of seasickness medication. ...
