  1. I sailed on the Queen Mary last October and I enjoyed the ports but I found it lonely and not solo friendly. I had read some reviews from from solo travelers going back and forth to England and they wrote about better experiences. Read some reviews. There was no solo table in dining room. I had table for two. Maybe if you make some friends on cc you would at least enjoy mdr. Very formal.

  2. I haven't been to Alaska, but I am going in July. I spent a lot of time researching itineraries. Only NCL, Princess, HAL, Carnival and Crystal have permits to sail in Glacier Bay. If Glacier Bay is a "must see" for you - as it is for me - that would eliminate RC ships.

I did 2 weeks on the Norwegian Sun 6/29-7/12 in Alaska. It was a great cruise as a solo. Every day there was a solo get together to meet have drinks go to dinners etc. I did not go to any of the solo stuff the first week but really enjoyed it the second week. We had tapas and wine and a dinner for 17 our last put on by the cruise director staff.

There were lots of families with kids and older people. School is out and it is a good learning opportunity for kids.

Best cruise I have ever taken. The rates were awesome.

You would probably get better rates with another line, I did. I refuse to use carnival again. I just came back from 14 night cruise in Alaska last Tuesday. Alaska is an awesome place to cruise. Beautiful and special.

  4. I cruised in Alaska later in May last year and the weather was lovely. Have only been in that part of the world once, so can't say if it was lucky or usual weather for that time of year.

One thing you might want to consider is the type of activities you would like to do in port. From what I can remember, some excursions have a very limited "season ". For example, the dog sledding ones. The ports of call boards may be of assistance on this point. I hope you get to go and have a great time.

Yes, I wanted to do a whale watching on Monday but that was over because the whales had already migrated I was told.[emoji19]

  5. Just got back from 17 days in Alaska, 14 nights cruising. There was a lot of kids running around the ship. I am not used to that because I usually cruise while schools are in session. I absolutely loved Alaska and the cruise, not the food, lol. You can enjoy yourself in spite of parents letting their kids run around unaccompanied on the ship, in the night clubs at midnight, etc.

  6. I'll pretty much take any itinerary if I can get in for $100/day as a solo (except I won't sail Carnival).

I'll spend more for a better cabin, a better ship and a better itinerary. But $150/day (or less) is generally where I start getting interested.

Oceania had some interesting deals for solos. Keep an eye out.

  7. Movies take up a lot of storage aand the iPad does not have a lot on its hard drive. Better to put the movies on a flash drive and insert it into the USB. Just copy & paste from your computer to the flash drive.

    awesome idea.

I will have try this.i need to get a flash drive and see if I can get this to work. Thank you very much!!!![emoji3]

  8. I'm a solo traveler . Three times my cousin has asked to join me. The first time was on RCCL and I had an interior with a solo rate. I told my cousin we should each do our own thing and could meet for dinner and go on mutually agreed excursions. Worked out ok. The second time, she cancelled cuz she got a better offer. Thank God it was before final payment. Then, thus spring, I booked a tour of Ireland with a low single supplement , and she joined me but I changed nothing so we were on different flights. Moral of the story: do your own thing and if someone joins you, great, but make sure your covered if they pull out. Talk beforehand and make sure your travel companion knows what you like and how flexible you are.

I have had too many people flake out and change their mind after they were the ones who wanted to go on the trip. I tell people when they ask "your going. by yourself?" Yes, otherwise I would never travel. I enjoy the challenge of solo travel.

I have been trying for over 1 year to help plan a girlfriends getaway but it is not working. But, I am not going to stress let others work out details.

  9. I think if you both try to make sure the other person is happy is good. I like to read, watch tv during down time but could not indulge myself. She was early morning up for coffee at 6am, not me unless I have an excursion . She only drinks water. I ended up deliberately dodging her to have some free time.

Another time the cruise line matched us up and she snored and left the bathroom dirty and messy.

There are lots of friends traveling you can tell who is strained like the 3rd or 4th day. I like the ones who seem happy and have lots in common. That would be my goal if I was traveling with someone else.

Talk beforehand. Are you both earl or late risers, what type of activities do you each like to do? Are you each going your separates ways? It is easy to dodge someone on a cruise.

  10. I did a Three Queens, B2B2B a couple of years ago. Put simply, many things on QM2 were not really bad, but not up to the standard of QV/QE. More detail than that would make for a lengthy post.

Jimsgirl really sums it up; also look at LisaAtlCruiser. This is not a dance thread, so I won't dwell on QM2's poor performance there. All three a ships have similar singles programs. When I look at what's important to me, QE/QV makes the short list, QM2 doesn't.

I did not enjoy QM2 but I have heard the other ships were better overall. I may try another Queen.

  11. It is not only price, length, ports. Got a great rate for August out of NYC $799 but I have been to the Bahamas a lot. So, I let it expire but it is still available. I will see what is available after my 14 night cruises.

Not into cruises to nowhere unless it is on a yacht[emoji572]️[emoji2]
