  1. A lot of the drinks on the outside bars were premade on BA a couple of weeks ago. They tasted just fine, but were on the weak side.

I think they were actually normal pours and with our tipping we've become used to heavy pours! Our first trip to Spice the bartender gave DW her Bahama Mama and after I tipped him, he quickly asked her if she'd like a floater.

Everything not pre-made from that same bartender the rest of the week was fantastic.

  2. Congrats on your first Haven sailing! I had mine on the BA just two weeks ago!

As others have said - you can order anything that's available on the ship and you'll only have to pay if it's a specialty item, like food from a specialty restaurant (you can use your SDP meals for in room dining if you want). Milkshakes from O'Sheehans do have a charge so you'd have to pay that.

We had Peter as our butler and Athena as our steward, both first rate. If you happen to have them, please say that Ms. Mary on her scooter, along with Randy and Ann say hi!

Anoop should be your concierge and he is one of the most highly talked of concierges in the fleet. He will take care of anything you need outside the room - reservations, excursions, tours, he's got you covered.

You asked about room service but you may not use it much with the wonderful Haven Restaurant at your service. Gretl the matre d' made every visit so much fun (she loved driving my MIL's scooter around the restaurant). Note - you can order off menu at the Haven Restaurant. Anything available on the ship is available there, but it's a courtesy to give them advance notice if you plan to do that. Same rules as room service, you only pay if the item isn't free where you'd normally get it.

Tipping is extremely personal. We did $100 each for the butler and concierge and also gave the steward extra on top of the DSC. I feel our tips were bare minimum and would likely tip more if we had similar service in the future.

The BA Haven staff is outstanding and I hope you enjoy your cruise!

  3. I went on the BA recently and enjoyed it. The cast would be different but the show the same. It's a very lightweight comedy musical but with a good cast, it can be very fun.

The six wines were just fine (three whites, two reds and a sparkling white). The lunch was decent, probably the most overcooked steak I had on the trip but still tasty.

  4. I am going to the Bahamas with Royal Caribbean in April. They have clamshells to rent but I was wondering if that was necessary. I want shade with a lounger (actually two one for me and one for DH). Is there an abundance of shade or would I be better off just renting an umbrella? Is it hard to find a lounger? Which is the best beach for snorkeling? Does it get very crowed or will it be peaceful? Any hep for this first timer on RC would be appreciated.

You may also want to post on the Private Islands board. It is specifically for places like Coco Cay.

  5. Incorrect! The two dining venues that require men to wear long pants and a collared shirt are 'Le Bistro' and 'Ocean Blue'! ;)

You're both correct. The Manhattan Room officially requires long pants for men but it is rarely enforced. Le Bistro and Ocean Blue also require long pants/collar.

  6.

What about not drinkable liquids , such as perfume, shampoo ,sunlotion etc.

I always put them in my suitcase when we travel by plane.

But then I put them in my carry on bag .

Is this still possible , or is everything now " on airplane mode"

No restrictions on non-beverage liquids that I experienced. Hopefully folks refrain from smuggling alcohol in their perfume/shampoo bottles and it stays that way!

  7. The clamshells are in the $25-$35 range. Make sure to get one with a ventilated back. The ones without the mesh ventilation get stuffy!

There's lots of shade if you walk past the main beach to the beaches past it. There's also a large covered pavilion past the main beach with great views of the ocean.

  8. soo wait, was mville crowded when you went. i am assuming so because otherwise theres no reason for slow service :)

Naw, I think there was two other tables occupied before we sat down and almost no-one came while we were there except the poor musician who prepped and started his set, playing to an empty restaurant in the chilly wind!

Really though, I thought the service was fine. It took maybe 15 minutes from order to food. They may have expected us to be upset because I kept darting into the arcade to warm up!

  9. I'm also sad to lose Uptown Grill. It was my favorite place to grab breakfast, most particularly because they had better bagels than the buffet. (They were still sad, just less pathetic than the plain wimpy things they serve elsewhere.)

I'll check the area at breakfast time, perhaps there is still something there when the pay restaurant is not open?

Margaritaville has breakfast, just like the Uptown Grill did (no additional charge). Also, Moderno has a breakfast buffet most days.

  10. just got back from 2nd cruise on BA and i still dont understand why a new pay restaurant is open just 5 hours a day.

Do you mean Margaritaville? Same situation here so we toughed it out Friday and had lunch there shivering in the 60F windy weather! They gave us free Key Lime pie and one of the burgers free to apologize for the "slow service". Honestly, I thought the service was just fine, it was just COLD!

  11. You have it correct. The standard Kids Menu is available at all restaurants for no charge.

If they don't order off the Kids menu, they can order off the adult menu at a la carte prices, or at fixed price restaurants (Teppanyaki, Moderno, etc.) they can pay the cover charge.

  12. I accept that coffee is excluded from the UBP in Cafe 49 on Spirit, but can we still enjoy the pastries there? Please, pretty please with a cherry on top.

You can enjoy them all you want, but they are not free (included). Sorry!

    They are cheaper than Starbucks!
