1. One of my travel companions will not eat anything with onion. She doesn't read the menu, but then when food arrives with onion - she sends it back.

I realize I'm an enabler, but in order to have a pleasant meal - I will tell the server [fast food to nice restaurant] please make sure there is no onion anywhere on her plate.

What is the best way to handle this in the MDR [we have ATD]? On a nightly basis, or talk to the Maitre'D? thinking about it now, with 2 of my friends having significant food issues, we probably should have done fixed seating so the staff would know after a couple of nights!!

Hard for me to imagine - I look at the menus and I want this and this and that one and can I have both of those....there just are not many things I won't eat.

  2. With every job change that I have made, I have learned new things and broadened my horizons. I am married with children, but if I wasn't (with my current level of experience) I would jump at the chance to try something new. I think this is an awesome idea OP! I don't think I would want to do it for life, but one contract would be a good experience, in my opinion. If you have the desire and the opportunity, you should never give up the chance to try something new! Congrats and best of luck to you!!!!

So true! the only career things I regret are the ones I didn't do. I made the very bad choice of not traveling because of a boyfriend when I was in my 20's and you couldn't pay me to go back into that kind of nursing now! I'll happily review records and advise attorneys...No patient care for me

  3. This is my first time posting on here, but I'm no newbie to cruising (In fact, I've been on 12). Next year I will be graduating from college with a nursing degree, and I was wondering if anyone had any info on nurses on cruise ships. I think working on one would be amazing, but I don't know what lines require in terms of experience or what ship life is like. I figure I should do this type of thing while I'm young and don't have a lot of commitments yet :) Who wouldn't want to cruise 24/7!

My parents are platinum on Carnival and I'm two cruises away :) If I had the choice, Carnival or Princess would be my go to lines so if you know any bits of information I'd love to hear it :)

I'm pretty sure you have to have significant ICU/CCU or ER experience, be ACLS certified, You'd have to be qualified to manage vents until air evac. I looked into it a couple of years ago - and I have no desire to go back and get ACLS advanced certification

as well as dealing with the slip/falls .... and please get the providers to write a little neater...I'm reviewing a case with cruise line medical records and I can't read the darn things!!

  4. Just hoping for springbreak children's sake they don't show InsideOut or Minions the same night as the Revenant:eek:

But seriously, outside of Star Wars and the Martian, these are all on cable or not real blockbusters or worth seeing even "free" (Revenant and Mockingjay, I'm talking to you:rolleyes:).

Agree - Star Wars and Martian are on my list to see for free whenever it happens...the rest - no

  5. several reasons that I can think of

if you need the medicine and you pass out somewhere you wont be able to tell anyone

if you have a accident and the doctor needs to give you something he/she needs to know what you are taking to make sure there are no reactions and 'monday' wont help him

    its the rules/law

as an old ER nurse, I'm with you here. Well, he takes the little yellow pill, the oval one about the size of a rat poo - you know what it is, you're just being difficult...and the little blue one but only on days he doesn't take nitro...

Especially if your life - not just your comfort level - is dependent on your meds. At the very least, a pharmacy printout so that when you're stranded somewhere for whatever reason, medical personnel will know what you take. I know, I know - it doesn't happen all the time, but really - it might just take that one time....

  6.
 Oh, please. Not more of this "1st world problem" you-should-be-ashamed-to-complain-about-anything-cruise-related-on-a-site-called-Cruise-Critic-because-other-people-have-less-than-you tripe.

Have you ever found anything less than satisfactory or been disappointed by the way something was being handled? Have you ever complained about it? We're all better off than a huge majority of people in the world, that has nothing to do with what's being discussed here.
why yes, I have, but I don't b!tch about it for years and compare it to doing "that" thing 60 years ago....oh wait, I'm not old enough to do that.

Bless your heart, I hope your future cruises are all perfection and you never have to wait in line or miss your lunch...especially that lunch thing...my goodness, missing a lunch might drop your blood sugar and make you grumpygus. Oh dear, is THAT where the shakes come from. I can see your point now.

    Have a great day.
  7. Why does it matter if you eat lunch at noon or 2pm (as an example)? Carnival had made their decision. Would you rather eat lunch a little later in the day or have the cost of more employees tacked onto the cruise price? You need to be able to adapt to new things NN. A late lunch won't be the end of the world, I promise.

but.... not having anything to c/o about might be the end of the world. Just a wide-eyed, can't wait to get on a ship kind of newbie...but whineyprivileged1st world problems like this make me crazy. Complaining about not getting free lunch when most of the people in the places you are going won't be getting any....

  8. hub app chat is 5/person per trip. 10/cabin of 2, 15 cabin of 3, etc - I am hopeful that all 4 in my group will agree to get it so I can disappear when needed and find them again.

Social is 5/day, only 1 device can be logged on at a time. [?? price per trip]

    medium class internet $60

Never cruised carnival, but this is what I've read. Seems pretty simple

  9. My mother in law is freaked out about Zika and my wife isn't even pregnant yet. We have a 4 day to Cozumel scheduled in 2 weeks and then a week long in May that stops in Cozumel.

"They" are advising that if you visit those areas you refrain from sex or appropriately use condoms. Pretty scary for procreating people

"They" are quietly freaking out over this and I suspect within a short period of time, those zika-rich mosquitoes will be breeding under my deck...I'm in San Antonio, celebrating my age and hysterectomy!

  10. Just because it's not on the Carnival site does not mean there is nothing to do there:eek: Try regular internet and you'll get boggled with choices, or wait till you get off the ship. I'm sure you'll get a pamphlet of choices once on board too.

my friends are hesitant to do anything off/carnival, then again, they aren't as likely to do the research...just one more thing to keep me from focusing on the housework!!

  11. I hate to say this- but the MDR food on our recent Fantasy cruise was really really bad. As in- left the food on the plate because it was inedible kind of bad. I am a bit thankful because- even though I could not navigate stairs- I still lost weight on this cruise. But I do think food on a cruise should at least be something people can eat- an I wrong?

For comparison of food only- illness had nothing to do with the cruise- I spent the week after the cruise in the hospital and the hospital food was better than the cruise food. I was feeling crummy and didn't notice until my DH pointed it out. He was like- oh my gosh- your food here is ten times better than on the cruise.

I think it is pretty sad when hospital food looks, smells and tastes better that the MDR dinner.

    are you platinum?!

  12. We booked last week, went to look at excursions for this 7 day cruise, only 18 are listed and some of them sold out already. When I go to the excursions for port without a cruise date - there are a lot more choices. Only one is listed for Cozumel. The cruise itinerary is Cozumel - Belize - Mahogany Bay

Is it likely that they have all booked up already? or will open up closer to the cruise date? There are four of us cruising together [1st time as a group] and we would like to get an idea of what to book, or where to look for options if everything is already booked.
