  1. This is how I personally feel. When I go on a cruise I want to feel like I am on a CRUISE. I don't want to ride carosels, go on bumper cars, etc. But that is just me. Some people want all the bells and whistles.

    ol:

But isn't it great when they have those things, and draw people in that direction, thinning out the crowds leaving you to enjoy the things YOU like to do, making you feel like you're on a cruise?

  2. We went to Tortola on Freedom, stayed on the island and LOVED it! Beautiful! It is our favorite port.

We did the same. We went up over the hill down the other side to Cane Garden Bay. Was a little distressed at what a poor area we went through to get there toward the end, being under the impression that some celebrities have million dollar homes on the island. I guess we went in the wrong direction.

  3. Lots of potential answers, heck I don't know.... Couple of comments though. NCL has 3 new builds and 4 more on the way. Carnival has one...... NCL. (And others) has some more varied points for stops (read that as the biggest draw in Bermuda) than Carnival does. Give kudos to both NCL and RCI they were in trouble with their mammoth builds and came out smelling like roses.

That seems to be the turning point. Carnival passed on the monoliths, thinking they were going to be failures, and they've been anything but. And still command fares that give those passengers a quality cruise.

There's not much you can do in the dust with plummeting fares, causing quality to be scaled back more, each time when you think they can scale back no more.

  4. lol ... that was what I was thinking when I read it. But at the very least hoping the announced announcement will be more definitive about the the menu. And (fingers crossed) when the menu will be completely rolled out.

Also, it spells out which ships have it and therefor which do not.

Which makes one wonder. Why not just make the announcement when an announcement is ready to be made.

    "Coming soon. An announcement".

  5. I could see the wires running from the cat into the ship. I also saw them testing it in the Splendor in Nassau with it running and people with two radios ensuring things were working as expected. At least part of the team was from an outside company. I talked to one regarding what they were doing and he said it was regular maintenance. He said that his team went from ship to ship ensuring everything was working as expected.

I'll take that as a no.

  6. From about two hours ago John Heald stated:

"Next weeks will share new Chefs table menu with you which is all ready being served on the Glory, Sunshine, Freedom, Dream and Valor and will be on more ships soon. News on that when I return to full service next week.

    Cheers."

Sounds like there will be more clear news about when other ships will receive this new menu.

An announcement about an announcement. Go figure.

  7. Thanks for letting us know, CB319. Did you drop your PVP for a TA? Maybe your PVP is now a TA?

Oh good grief. This was the same source that mislead everyone about the Freedom. I don't even think a little Ceasers order would be processed correctly.

    No credability at all.

  8. The last response I read was something along the lines of "the employees keep the tips they receive" which is not quite the same as "the tips are not pooled among the employees". Yes, I expect he is disingenuous enough to dodge the question in such a fashion. If he has declared unequivocally that tips aren't pooled I have missed it.

A simple search brought this up:

  9. Really? While I'm no fan or basher of Carnival, the reason I started the thread about them being connected a while back was to see if it was just a PR exercise or not. While sticking the CATs onboard might have been a fairly expensive PR exercise, if that is what they wanted, I really don't see them paying for an installation crew, taking the required cabins out of inventory for the crew, and doing deck and bulkhead penetrations (cutting and welding) just to run some cables for looks.

I would also venture to say that one reason that Carnival announced the upgrades was that the classification society was requiring it. If that is the case, then they would be required to do the upgrades at the first drydocking.

Carnival wants the whole thing to disappear, so why would they bring up the Triumph fire again? They know that the cruising public rarely thinks about safety unless there has been a big headline problem. So their thinking is to let sleeping dogs lie. Triumph was over 18 months ago, which is a lifetime in American's memories, and to the media.

I don't know. I watch Titanic at every flip of the channel from all different angles. And that was a little more than 18 months ago.

It's just that onion sandwiches and tent cities don't keep up public interest I presume.

But I'm fascinated every time this topic comes up. Its just a message board to pass some time.

But even more so, personal safety. I'm the one conducting my own fire drills and counting doors to passages and stairwells.

  10. Unless you work for Carnival or Grand Bahamas shipyard, you won't know for sure whether the work has been done or not, it's not something that Carnival or any line would announce. I would assume that the generators were removed on ships that had the upgrades, as they are leased, so keeping them longer than required is bad business. I started a thread about whether the CATs were ever connected several months ago, and received photos of several ships where the cabling was installed, so I would not guess that they went to the expense of running cables just to have them look pretty for PR.

I would have thought being what they went through, they'd be shouting what they have upgraded. And because of the lack of info, I'm still stuck at only Sunshine and Triumph being upgraded.

  11. Falkcor is right, they were going to coordinate this with the drydockings, the portable CAT generators were a stop gap until drydocking. You could see which ships still have CATs on them to tell whether they were updated.

The Fantasy, Fascination, Imagination, Sunshine and Inspiration were all docked in 2013, not sure which were pre or post Triumph.

The Elation is docking in a couple weeks, Ecstasy in October, Freedom and Legend have docked earlier this year, Pride goes in Oct/Nov to get scrubbers for Baltimore.

The majority of the remaining ships are scheduled for 2015.

so are you saying this work has been done, or is there an assumption that it is done due to the dry dock. Have those generators been removed? More importantly, were they ever actually attached?
  12. Good morning, can anyone tell me if my husband with have to wear a suit jacket in the steakhouse? (Freedom)

    Elegant night or not...

Required? Not by the steakhouse, but you would supersede that rule. What do YOU want him to wear when you go out for a fancy meal?

  13. Hello! any ideas as to what to do in Freeport? I was there once and did not see much to do there??? Family of 11. Most teenagers and young adults! thanks!

You go to the beach, which rival places like Half Moon Cay and Coco Cay. It's just not where you pul in. It's a 15 minute ride on the south east shore. And the further east you go, the prettier.
