  1. Has anyone had experience with the kids’ program to Alaska on Infinity? We are planning to take our daughter and family to Alaska mid June on Infinity (7 nights, RT out of Vancouver). However, our daughter is concerned that the 9 year old will be bored with the kids’ program. We were on the Solstice in early June this year and there were only a few kids at that time. So we didn’t get a feel for Celebrity’s kids’ programming. :D

We were on the Infinity to Alaska in September on the same itinerary. Because the school year had started, there were only a little over a dozen kids in the program. Even with this, my kids (6 and 9 years old) LOVED it. They woke up each morning looking forward to it. They begged us to stay when we picked then up. They had a great time and came back to the cabin exhausted each night.

The staff was great. The program was educational and fun. The only thing I would improve is the family events the staff held. There could have been better announcements about them.

  2. Was just contacted by the shoreside concierge for Celebrity Silhouette. We are booked in a RS on 9/15. She could not have been more accommodating and personable.

She said our Michael's Club concierge will be Lawrence. Has anyone sailed with him before?

I had a similar experience. I expected a polite and friendly experience, but Pamela went well beyond that. She was more than helpful, gave me suggestions about my granddaughter's dietary restrictions. She seemed disappointed we weren't more demanding.

  3. The potential problem with framing your question to Celebrity the way you did is that it influenced the answer. She was unsure and you convinced her it was okay.

The real problem is the person who checks you in at the dock has no reason to be biased in the direction of your interpretation. You might have problems unless you have specific documentation with very specific language. You might not. There's no way of knowing.

This is also a CYA situation for you. If one of them gets sick or injured on the cruise and it turns out that you were wrong, it might even cause problems with your fostering of the children.

I'm not a lawyer and tend to be quite risk adverse so take this with a very large grain of salt. But I would get at least one, and probably both, of the following.

An answer in writing from the fostering agency on what documentation and specific wording is needed so that you are authorized to take them out of the country on this vacation.

An answer in writing from Celebrity to this. "I have two foster children living with me in the US that I'm taking on this Alaskan cruise leaving from Vancouver. We're all US citizens and what documents do I need to bring with me and be specific."

This is a wonderful opportunity for them and they're blessed to have you as their foster parent!

FYI. I didn't tell her what my interpretation was. I simply asked what was needed for a foster parent sine we are neither parents or legal guardians. I didn't want to influence her.

We have discussed this with the children's lawyer, the parents' lawyer, the case worker, her supervisor, we have court approval. But someone could interpret something differently.

Even talking to Canadian immigration and citizenship seems to be different than what I read. I'll go with the strictest.

I understand why rules are in place, I just want to cover all my bases.

  4. Come on guys. I'm not asking for legal advice. I have worked with lawyers and judges. I have talked to the State Dept. I've done my research. I want to talk to some who has been through it. And believe it or not, someone suggesting to call Citizenship and Immigration was helpful. None of the lawyers involved mentioned that.

  5. Thanks. I have a US lawyer who knows the laws for foster care. We have talked extensively to our state agencies. Our dealings with the State Department has been educational, but never thought about Canadian laws. I wanted to make sure I covered all angles. And asking for advise from knowledgeable people never hurts and often helps.

  6. I would like any advice on taking foster children from US to a cruise starting in Vancouver. We are going over our documents and are nervous about having everything. We called the Captains Club, but she was unsure. She read the the documentation and agreed with my interpretation.

I have passports, birth certificates and court order permission. Can anyone tell me if there are any other documents needed? I would also like any advice. They are 6 and 9 years old.

  7. DH loves malt vinegar on his fries. Luminae didn't have it on boarding day. They reached out to the other restaurants, but couldn't find it. Next lunch as soon as we sat down they brought a bottle to the table. Now that is good service!

I hope since we are going out of Vancouver this cruise, they will have it available.

  8. Love the review. We are taking he cruise in 5 1/2 weeks, so I want to hear all about your experience.

Enjoy the Sky Suite. We were hooked after the first time. It's not necessarily the room, but the service. You are truly treated like a VIP. (The best part is priority check in and boarding. I will do almost anything to avoid long lines.)

  9. We had Bart as our butler earlier this year. He was marvelous. I had thought about a corner suite but was hesitant since the only ones open were on 7th deck when we booked. I was worried about the service being only one of two suites on the deck. What was your experience?

  10. I've taken cruises during early spring break season. I never noticed the kids until one day. They were in the elevator going to dinner and at the ping pong table and in the cafeteria and in the kids club. We were surprised when we learned the number of kids on board. If they are well behaved, which most kids are, no one notices.

  11. We are in a suite. The statement has been that Luminae is closed on port days for lunch. Does anyone know if that means when we are in port at lunch or all port days?

Any ideas if the speciality restaurants are open for lunch at all?
