Received the following email today from our TA:

We've requested that Regent retroactively apply their new “Return With Regent” program that offers $1000 double occupancy ($500 per person) Shipboard Credit (SBC) to your existing bookings that qualify.  This promotion was intended for new bookings only, however if your booking doesn't already have a better offer and the rate has not increased since you first booked, then Regent, at XXXXX's request, has agreed to honor the new offer on your  booking #xxxxxx. Please note, that in order to receive the $1000 ($500 per person) SBC under this new promotional offer, the former “Regent Reassurance” offer of allowing you to cancel your booking within 48 hours of embarkation for 100% Future Cruise Credit will now be under Regent's “Return With Regent” reassurance program that allows you to cancel within 15 days of embarkation for 100% Future Cruise Credit.

Please Reply to this email no later than Friday, June 5, 2020 with your choice:

    1. Accept the $1000 SBC and the 15 day cancel policy

    2. Do not accept the $1000 SBC and retain the 48 hours cancel policy.

If we do not receive an email from you, no changes will be made to your booking.

This is for our October 12 LA to LA Mariner cruise to Mexico. It seems that Regent intends to sail this cruise or why would they be doing this? We have no idea what we'll spend the $1000 on, as there are no pay shore excursions listed (except car and driver) and we are not spa people. Just hoping we have to grapple with that problem!

We made the same request for our October 5 LA to LA Mariner cruise to Mexico and were told that our cruise did not qualify for this promotion, after being told it did. Seems the original Agent "made a mistake". This last response was confirmed by a Supervisor.

  2.

This information was in today's Victoria paper.

Ian Robertson, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority's  chief executive, said:

“We haven’t ruled out that we will see cruise ships in 2020, but I think it’s unlikely,” he said, adding there are still cruise-ship lines that have reserved berthing spaces in Victoria for later this year. Some are not giving up on 2020.”

The harbour authority is focusing on getting ready for 2021, working with cruise lines, health authorities and governments to put in place whatever new measures are deemed appropriate, Robertson said.

  3. This is from NCL. I guess the question is, does it apply to Regent. One would assume yes, but you know what happens when you assume.

    Enjoy our Flexible Cancellation Policy

    • For all cruises through September 30, cancel up to 48 hours prior to your vacation start date and receive a Future Cruise Credit for sailings through December 2022.

    • For all cruises October 1 and beyond, you can cancel for a full refund up to 120 days before your cruise.

  4. We're just in the process of booking the Far East & Alaska cruise for April '22. We are able to take advantage of the 'Pay Later - 2 for 1 Deposit' promo that is currently being offered. Now, here's the twist. We're being told by Viking that given the length of this cruise (36 nights) it is treated like a Grand Voyage, which has a deposit requirement of 20% (10% with the promo).

In the T&C's for the promo, it only refers to the $250pp. So we were a bit taken aback when we saw the deposit required.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Thanks

  5. Sad ending.

“United States Coast Guard says the 73-year-old man who went overboard off a cruise ship headed for Victoria is dead. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew recovered the unresponsive elderly man and transported him to hospital before he was pronounced as deceased.”

  6. "A rescue mission is underway for an elderly man that went overboard on a cruise ship bound for Victoria Tuesday morning.

The United States Coast Guard Pacific Northwest said on Twitter the Captain of the Seven Seas Mariner confirmed a ship video showed the 73-year-old man jumped from a balcony on the eighth deck of the vessel around 4:15 a.m.

The ship was off Cape Flattery on the northwest tip of Washington at the mouth of the Strait of Juan de Fuca when the incident occurred.

The coast guard says the man’s wife last saw him around 4 a.m., saying she was woken up around 4:30 a.m. by a breeze coming from the balcony door that was cracked open.

The Coast Guard’s 13th District in Seattle expects the rescue mission to be for most of the day.

The U.S. Coast Guard has one ship, the Cutter Wahoo from Station Neah Bay, and an air crew from Port Angeles responding.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria says it is assisting with air assets.

The Seven Seas Mariner was scheduled to arrive at Ogden Point at 1:00 p.m., but is now scheduled for an 11 a.m. arrival."

  7. The Internet came up during a Town Hall meeting with Jason Montague on the Navigator on Monday, according to a blog from one of the passengers.

“He said they are working on it and that there are several issues ranging from the wiring on the older ships to the provider not delivering what was promised.”

  8. We are presently on the Navigator for our first Regent cruise. While many previous posts have commented on vibrations, I do not recall reading anything related to the brown tap water that we have encountered.

This issue has been happening since the ship left LA for the World Cruise. We understand that the colour is worse when the ship is not travelling at full speed.

The crew will change the filter to your suite, but the effects of the filter last for only 5 days or so.

Needless to say we were slightly taken aback that this was even an issue and wondering if others have had the same problem on previous Navigator cruises.

    Thanks
