Have just checked Saga’s website this morning and there are quite a few available cabins now which makes me think that there have been a lot of cancellations. There are no further changes to the itinerary at this stage so if anyone hears anything further please post here.

Thank you for this info. I have just tried to get on the Saga website to check it out and I can’t get on.
Maybe Saga are in the process of changing things? I’ll try again tomorrow. -
Has anyone heard any more about the itinerary?
-
It looks like everything has been said about this cruise now. The ball is firmly in Saga’s court now.
in the meantime, if the cruise does go ahead we look forward to meeting all you guys

Given that the majority of passengers are like us, elderly and cruisers who have been to all or most of the other ports but booked this cruise for the Black Sea part, it would give Saga a lot more time to rebook cabins in the event of cancellations if they make the necessary announcements sooner rather than later.
-
I agree with you Windsurfboy but I think it’s about time that Saga put us in the picture, particularly as all the other cruise lines have cancelled their calls to the Black Sea.
Surely the reports of Russian Naval ships and mines in the Black Sea should help Saga to make a decision.

It’s worrying to note that Odessa is now being shelled by Russian warships in the Black Sea.
I can see that you are probably correct about the removal of most if not all of the Black Sea ports from the itinerary.
-
As it appears that all the other cruise lines have made their decision then It’s about time that Saga did the same.
Its no use just telling passengers who ring up that they are just following Foreign Office guidelines a decision needs to be made. -
Although we have been looking forward to this cruise after several cancellations, we now feel that in view of what is happening in Ukraine it would be immoral to be cruising around the Black Sea while this horrific war is raging in the region.
-
Ok if that’s what you want but if you’ve been trying to get to the Black Sea for a long time like we have then going to those other places would not compensate.

The obvious answer is that Saga insist that on formal night everyone throughout the ship should be formally dressed!
Any passengers who don’t like that arrangement would know before they sail what the ruling is and can therefore book with another cruise line.
We, like many others have cruised with several other lines and seen the gradual erosion of Formal dress requirements on certain cruise ships to the point were male passengers can be seen in the MDR in shorts on formal night.
There is always someone determined to change the rules.

To be honest I think the more important issue here is whether this cruise is going to go ahead at all in light of what is happening in the Black Sea.
So far, Odessa is the only port that has been changed but if things escalate then there could very well be more changes.
At present the FCDO is only advising against travel to Ukraine but this could change at any time.I assume that if this were to happen then it would no longer be a Black Sea cruise and therefore classed as a major change.

This cruise on Spirit of Adventure to the Black Sea in May is our first cruise with Saga. We did a month long land tour with Saga around Australia and the organisation was superb.
The FCDO advice may change before the sailing date but it will of course all depend on Russia.

Hi Tring,
We are also on this cruise. We will join the roll call once we have details.

Hi,
We have taken several cruises with various companies, Cunard, Azamara, Star cruises, P & O etc but have booked a 33 night cruise on the Boudicca from Liverpool in October 2017.
We are really looking forward to this cruise as it has a great itinerary and because we haven't been with Fred Olsen before it is interesting to read other people's comments.
-
We were told when eating in the Todd English restaurant on the QM2 that Rod Stewart had sat at our table last trip, and apparently performed while on board.
We also missed Roger Moore on the Azamara Journey.
-
Wine tasting on the ship is not an essential because wine is freely available but communication is important to me. The free internet was an important plus point when booking our last trip on the Journey and although we have already booked a cruise in 2016 with Azamara I doubt if we will be cruising with them again if this decision is not reversed

Would like to know if these cabins are now available due to cancellations.
