  1. I assume most folks on here want to go on the Bliss. Is it because you bought into the "built for Alaska" hype, or because you like new ships? We've got October out of LA booked. That's mostly because it will be new destination for us, and we like bigger ships.

Our first cruise was on NCL Getaway and we absolutely loved it. Our 2nd was on another line. We didn't have any complaints, we just didn't enjoy the ship as much. We had talked about cruising to Alaska so when I heard they were building a ship like Getaway for Alaska, it was a no-brainer.

  2. I must say I don't think I've ever had to wear a "bonnet" or helmet when riding go karts. I'm sort of okay with the helmet but I'm not sure about the bonnet. I wonder how often they get sanitized. Am I the only one wondering that? Eww So plan on a bad hair day after wearing that. lol

They say the karts are approximately 10 mins. You wear a bonnet under the helmet...

  3. I haven’t cruised Celebrity but on other lines they check your stuff as you are coming back on board. They tagged the items for storage. I think we got a copy of the tag.

  4. This is our 9th cruise but first on NCL. The ships look first rate but the website and booking are unbelievably screwed up. I just went on the website to book some additional excursions and they have gone from 50+ to 18...I don't comprehend??? Most of our cruises have been on Princess or Carnival and their website is a 10 compared to NCL, a 0. Not sure booking this cruise was good idea. Hoping for the best.:confused:

You can go to the main websites and look at excursions for each port. When you log into your account you will see what is still available. The ones not listed might be sold out if it's close to your sail date. I didn't notice when your sail date is.

  5. This looks really good. What does the link go to? It isn't working for me.

  6. The RCI ship that has bumper cars doesn't charge for those. But again, it's not the fact that they're charging that bothers me, it's the fact that there aren't other activities available that are free. And, while I'm sure the kids clubs are good, I'm not looking to dump my kids in a club and not see them. It's a family vacation, so I'd like to spend time with them and do stuff. We'll be going to the Caribbean at Christmas on our first cruise and do plan on taking in all the activities on that Carnival ship together. I have no intention of canceling the AK trip because of the charges, but it's disappointing. I really wanted Ovation of the Seas (RCI) but their itinerary isn't good.

There will be things for you to do together. Maybe trivia, scavenger hunt, watch some of the other games, etc.. The Getaway had ping pong tables and it seems like there was some kind of game on part of the Waterfront. Maybe Bliss will have those too. The Royal Cruise we went on had shuffleboard.

  7. Hi all.

New to NCL (and cruising in general since this will only be my second cruise). I have a dining question... when going to reserve at specialty restaurants, my profile only shows specific times available. Can we just show up instead of having a reservation? I booked with the free dining so we get 3 nights at specialty restaurants and nothing seems to be available before 9pm.

Thanks! And I appreciate all the info available on these boards! Hubby, son, in-laws, and I are sailing from Seattle on June 2. Can't wait!!

    Kim

The same thing was showing when I tried to reserve dining. I called my PCC and she was able to reserve us times we wanted.

  8. You either love Cilantro or hate it, its a taste bud thing.

Cilantro tastes like soap to some people, my mom said it did, but she still liked it.

    Some "Supertasters" find it revolting,

Yes their are a class of people that are supertasters. There are tests for it lol

Also Soaps and cilantro have a similar makeup of fat molecules called aldehydes.

'Flavor chemists have found that cilantro aroma is created by a half-dozen or so substances, and most of these are modified fragments of fat molecules called aldehydes. The same or similar aldehydes are also found in soaps and lotions and the bug family of insects.'

More about Cilantro than you ever wanted to know.

I used to hate cilantro. A few years ago that changed and now I love it. On the radio the other morning they said that taste buds regenerate every few years and that is why tastes can suddenly change. 🤷*♀️

  9. I love the Waterfront. It’s not just outdoor seating for bars and restaurants. It goes almost all the way around the ship. I loved going out and walking it after dinner.

  10. Has anyone been to both Snoqualmie Falls and Mt. Ranier area? Which is better? I am looking at the West Loop Drive, really want to go to Grove of Patriarchs and Reflection Lake. I have looked at the Falls too so am debating between the two. Thoughts?

  11. For cruise visitors, my suggestion is to go to the market as early in the day as possible. Go for breakfast at one of the old-time cafes in the main arcade, such as Lowell's or the Athenian. Get there by 7:30 or 8, and after breakfast walk around the market as the merchants set up for the day, but be gone by 10, after which the crowds will become overwhelming. If you're here in July - September, maybe buy some flowers from the "low stalls" for your cabin on the boat - the selection and prices are very good.

I have seen reference to the “arcade” a few times. What does that mean? Just a section of the market?

  12. It isn't a very nice area and there is literally nothing nearby that you would want to see. I don't think it is terribly dangerous (although it has a pretty high crime rate...7th in the State) but other than being near the airport it has no redeeming qualities (no shopping, no sites to see, no good restaurants, etc). For an overnight before a flight or cruise it is fine but if you are going to spend a few days to visit the area there are much better areas within 30 mins of Seattle especially if you have a car. If you don't have a car and want to use the light rail I would still look for better options nearer to Seattle along the route (plus you will have to take an airport shuttle back to the airport to catch the light rail). Also, check the South Lake Union Street Car and the monorail and hotels along its route. Also, we have a great bus service which could make somewhere like Bellevue an option.

If you want to tell me the dates you want to stay I would be happy to do a quick search and let you know of better locations within a price range.

Also, you might find something nice and affordable on Airbnb...in fact some of the more interesting areas (Capitol Hill, Ballard, West Seattle) don't really have hotels but they will have Airbnb.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't in a dangerous area. There was more than one reason that we ended up booking close to the airport. We needed a Hilton brand hotel and a Marriott brand hotel close to each other. Parties in our group had points to use at those hotels, for one. The amount of points needed at the downtown Marriott was higher than going to Hawaii. I did a lot of research and knew that it wasn't close to anything. We are renting a vehicle.

  13. I agree...the Airport in not in a good area. It is probably OK if you are arriving in the evening and just heading to the port in the morning but don't stay there for multiple days. Literally anywhere else in the Puget Sound region would be better (even Tacoma). But if you are staying there, The Roaster is my favorite airport area restaurant...but don't go there if you are a vegetarian.

Can you be more specific about why it’s not a good idea to stay by the airport?
