  1. @PescadoAmarillo:  Thank you for the thorough and detailed post and thank you for taking the time to share your views.

A question if you don't mind.  Is G double boosted?  I know you are.  I am getting my second one tomorrow; this variant while not as severe in illness perhaps is extremely contagious.

If things were actually this bad we would know.

    From the Roll Call thread:

I hear constant coughing in the buffet and people are self dispensing their food with no masks. It’s unbelievable.  While getting tested each morning the traffic for testing is busy.  The covid isolation ward on deck twelve Aloha is apparently full and I understand that some are now on Carib too.

Do you have a number of the PAX with Covid on Board?

On page 16 of this thread Pescado Amarillo posted that all 139 balcony cabins on the isolation deck were full and they were now using inside cabins (likely for crew).  So the pax experience is bound to be either great or awful, great if they are not in "covid jail" and awful if they are.

It may start sooner than the fall with this new variant getting a foothold. Out of 700 attendees at the Gridiron Dinner they have been almost 60 reported positive attendees. And they were together for a few hours, not for several days.

Where did you get your data?  The information I can find says about 10%, not 60.

  5. I did a search this morning trying to find a story about anyone, pax or crew, that died of COVID on the Vista and could not find one.  That is not to say that it did not happen, I don't know, but it is not on the mainstream news.  I did find this about a Carnival officer dying of COVID but that was not on the Vista and it occurred on June 30.  RIP to the officer.

So what do you know about how the positive covid cases were handled. Do you know exactly how many? Did they announce anything publically or keep it quiet.

I would not expect details from Carnival or anyone else, they want to keep this as low key as possible.  This from the Washington Post:

Carnival’s new mask policy went into place on Wednesday aboard Carnival Vista, where the company is “managing a small number of positive cases on board,” spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in an email. He would not say how many cases, whether the passengers were vaccinated or what their condition was.  “We have identified and tested close contacts and anyone who tested positive is in isolation,” the statement said.  Carnival Vista’s status is listed as “yellow” on the CDC table.  Cruise companies including Carnival, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Royal Caribbean International did not provide information in response to questions about most of their ships that were listed as orange or yellow.

Do you know what they did with the 4 positive pax and if they drove home or in hotels?

FWIW I offer the following.  Channel 2 Houston, had a TV crew at the Galveston dock when the Vista arrived and interviewed various pax.  No one knew what was done with the COVID positive so they were likely taken off the ship behind the scenes.  However per the TV report some pax were shaken up by the news and decided to get off the ship in Cozumel flying home from there instead of continuing on the ship.

  8. The ship is supposed to dock in Seattle on Saturday (tomorrow) at 7 AM.  Jeannie (Pescado Amarillo) posted this:  "We will not have WiFi on the Nieuw Amsterdam, but I will continue to blog and will publish posts (without photos, most likely) from the ports where we have cellular internet."

There should be plenty of cell and wifi access in Seattle so hopefully we will hear from them tomorrow.

I don’t know if the names of all involved have been released, but two have been - a couple who lives about a quarter mile from us here in Napa, CA.

I can’t seem to get a link to work, but if you go to napavalleyregister.com it’s the lead story.

Thank you.  I read the story - very sad for the victims.

  10. This was posted on August 6 (today) at 4:07 PM (CDT) - we may not know the name of the victims for a while.

Poor weather conditions were hindering efforts to recover the bodies of six people who were killed when a sightseeing plane crashed in southeast Alaska, Alaska State Troopers said Friday.  The victims have not been identified, and troopers were working with volunteers from the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad to coordinate recovery efforts.  "Poor weather conditions and deteriorating visibility in the Ketchikan and Misty Fjords area have prevented the Alaska State Troopers and volunteers from the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad from conducting any recovery efforts this morning,” troopers spokesperson Austin McDaniel said in an email Friday to The Associated Press.  Victims won’t be named until they have identified them following recovery efforts, he said.  All five passengers were on an excursion of the Holland America Line cruise ship Nieuw Amsterdam. The company was making counseling services available to guests and crew, it said in a statement.

  11. She normally cruises with Princess and my understanding from her blog is that she was not planning on using the Holland American internet; that she would be using either cell service when in port or local wifi.  She would have had plenty of chances to touch base from Ketchikan after this tragedy thus my concerns.

  12. This is very concerning.   She had stated on her blog that she would post while in port where she could use WiFi and Ketchikan should have had plenty of places to post from.  In addition the ship was held in port for longer than planned on account of the tragedy so I hope and pray that her and her husband are both ok.

There is a cruise blogger,Pescado Amarillo (Yellow Fish Cruises) on this cruise.

Her name is Jeanie and her DH goes by G.

Followers of her blog and postings on the Princess board are concerned  because she has not posted recently. She has been having issues with WiFi, so that may be the reason for the lack of her posts.

I have been following Pescado Amarillo's blog (her name is Jeannie and they live in the Denver area).  I am also very concerned as her last post was two days ago.  She had stated that she would post while in port where she could use WiFi and Ketchikan should have had plenty of places to post from.  In addition the ship was held in port for longer than planned on account of the tragedy so I hope and pray that her and her husband are both ok.  For those interested here is her blog, hope she posts soon.

The New York Times has published an article analyzing the outbreak of Covid-19 on the Diamond Princess and aerosols transmission.

    Very interesting reading.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/30/health/diamond-princess-coronavirus-aerosol.html

Very interesting reading indeed however I have a minor quibble.  The article states that "But good ventilation is not enough; the Diamond Princess was well ventilated and the air did not recirculate, the researchers noted." (emphasis added).

That is not true.   The air in the cabins is indeed recirculated but only within the individual cabins but more important, the air in the common areas, hallways, atrium, clubs, restaurants, theater, etc. is indeed recirculated with a mixture of fresh AND recycled air.  So if COVID particles stay in the air for a while like the study suggests, common areas were a likely factor in transmission prior to the cabin quarantine and a likely factor among the crew afterwards.

If they had the cash to pay out refunds as promised, it wouldn't have taken them this long to do it. It's not going to magically materialize in the next 30 days.

They do have the cash, they just don't want to use it for refunds.  CCL took $3 Billion from an established credit line and an additional $6 Billion from multiple sources, primarily debt at 12% interest.
