  1. Yes there is a discrepancy and that’s the issue. The description itself looks the same to me when clicked through as a Shore Excursion with the exception of pricing. It’s always said that about D/P as far as I can recall.
It looks to me like you are both correct. When you pull up the FTTF info, it shows the statements on D/P as FBW listed with the missing info on early cabin access for D/P. If you click thru like you are going to purchase FTTF, it is stated as BMS listed. So the website is not consistent from one place to the next. I'm looking at the website on my phone, so it could be different from a desktop or tablet.

  2. If they do remove this perk, it will make it much less likely that I will sail Carnival again. While I don't sail for the perks, I do take the ones that are useful to me into account when I am pricing cruises. It's not always about the cheapest price, the value I'm getting for the price I'm paying is more important to me. Removing early cabin access will really downgrade Carnival's value to me.

There is certainly enough evidence to make it look like Carnival is at least considering this and it's important that we make our voices heard on this. Thanks firemanbobswife for starting this thread.

  3. I was just on the Splendor in Oct and sat in one of the chairs from the eating area to watch the movies. People were.moving the chairs from the side seating to the section behind the loungers so they could see better. Didn't see any other seats but those were fine.

  4. Our experience from last year: There was no way to know in advance when your transfer time will be. They will deliver your transfer tickets to your cabin with the assigned times on them. You might be able to check with guest services once on board if you want an earlier time, but we didn't bother. Like you we were just heading to the airport to pick up a car for a DIY tour. The disembark process was very organized and went like clockwork. I would say we were at the airport by 10: 00. You pick up your luggage at the airport which was also very well organized. Overall, it was the smoothest disembarkation I've ever experienced.😊

  5. So, it seems like it depends on the port, the concierge and the ship. The "on site" Haven people were walked off by the staff on the Jewel in LA, but not offsite Haven status people. NCL needs some consistency here!

Were you told to meet at Chin Chin at a certain time? My experience on the Jewel a couple of years ago was that we were told to meet at Chin Chin (got a letter in my suite). It was pretty early, before general disembarkation started. We were then walked off the ship and into the port building by one of the assistant concierges. Once in the port bldg, we were in the regular customs line but because it was early, it was pretty short. There was no difference in procedure for Haven or regular suites, the same procedures were used for all.

It sounds like they used the same basic procedure for you, but it sounds like they had started the general disembark. Were you the only ones doing suite disembark at that point? Maybe you had missed the earlier time. Did they give you any information on disembark the day before?

  6. Just be sure to remember to call your butler from the hot tub to have the coals nice and red by the time you get back to the room.

Great advice. Even better, why fish at all. Just have your butler do it while you are in the hot tub. Of course, you should give a hefty tip for such good service. [emoji3]

  7. One tip about sitting with groups, I find that with a table over 6 people, it can be a bit hard to hear across the table. The tables with 6 which are common on HAL ships are great for conversations.

Ditto that. With a minor hearing problem I like the 6 tops as it is easier for me to hear the conversations.

Good point! With everyone talking at nearby tables, it can get hard to hear. Thanks for bringing that important point up. :)

  8. Sorry for cutting off my reply in mid sentence. I clearly shouldn't be trying to type on a smartphone keyboard. The phone may be smart--the user not so much.

Anyway, I'm excited to finally be sailing on Holland America. I've wanted to for some time now and finally everything has come together to make that possible. The generosity & warmth that I've seen among CC members on this board has made me sure that I've made the right choice. Thanks again!

  9. Thank you all so much for the good advice. I'm glad to know that I can request to be seated with others and especially that I can ask for a large table. I agree that conversations are usually more lively at a large table. I'll see how it goes the 1st night and then see if anything has opened up in fixed if that seems like the better option for me.

I'm so excited to finally be sailing

  10. I will be cruising for the first time on Holland America next month on the Oosterdam. I just booked a few days ago and when I booked Anytime Dining was the only option available. I don't mind that at all, just happy to be able to cruise, but I was wondering it they seat you alone or with others? I'm sailing solo so it would be nice to be seated with others if they do that.

  11. How did you like the Star and Alaska? From Maryville TN :)

Hi Hollon....I can't imagine a better way to see Alaska. The Star was a wonderful ship and Captain Tuvo was great about letting the passengers know when there was something special to see. I loved having the International Cafe to grab a coffee or a quick bite to eat. The promenade was a great place to sit and take in the passing scenery, especially on glacier viewing day.

Alaska is stunning. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful and interesting to see. Enjoyed every second of the trip!

  12. Well, I was researching what time I could get off the ship to get to Anchorage and on my way north. Then, I realized yal neighborS! I'm from Crossville...just an hour west on I40! How about you both let me know how smooth it goes! I will be on the Princess Star in August of next year. I was hoping to get off the ship early and make it to Denali before sunset but I'm not so sure that will happen!

Hi RGilmer! I know Crossville well. I used to love coming to the outlet mall there--always found some good buys in the stores there.

I never did find out about self debarkation there since we opted to take a Princess shuttle the the Anchorage airport where we rented a car. I have to say that was the best cruise ship debarkation I have ever experienced. Very organized and and ran like clock work. I guess it has to be since they have to time the shuttle departures to the tunnel schedule.

I have to say that it would be difficult to make it to Denali by sunset and that would also leave you no time to take in the beauty that is all around you. How are you planning to get to Denali? Are you renting a car?

  13. We are booking a cruise on the Carnival Dream for October 2018 and have a choice between cabins 10278 and 10290. Is there anyone with experience with either of these two cabins? Thanks!

I don't have direct experience with these cabins, but I had a cabin on that deck when I sailed the Dream a couple of years ago. My pick would be 10278 between these two. 10290 is right behind the Blue Iguana bar and with the movies playing late on Lido in that area too, you could get some noise. Maybe not a factor if you're out late anyway. I really liked my lido deck cabin. Great location!
