  1. So I met a couple on my last cruise who were Diamond + and in their early 70's. They said even though they take 3 to 4 cruises a year they will never make it to Pinnacle status. Mind you they have been cruising since early 2000's. What I thought was interesting is they were saying years ago RCCL used to have deals/sales were you earned double or triple points when booking cruises and it did not need to be a suite. They said many Pinnacle's today got there by using those double/triple bonus point sales. I know now the only way to get double points is booking a junior suite or higher. Seems like for those starting out now making it to Pinnacle will be very difficult if you cannot afford junior suite or higher. Booking say a standard balcony and taking three 7 day cruises a year (21 days) will take you 33 years to reach 700 nights. Heck it will take 16 years if always doing a suite at the rate of 21 days a year. I guess we will be happy with Diamond + when we reach that....

  2. Any promotion available for self-booking is available to travel agents. Not sure why your agent isn't showing the same discounts, but there are no promotions that are not available to travel agents. There are some that are only available far in advance, and some that are only for new bookings, but that would be the same for agent booking or self-booking.

Off topic but how do you get your cruise countdown clocks side by side? TY

  3. Spent last week on Oasis of the Seas and almost everything was great but it was impossible to enjoy a meal without enduring at least one flea market-style salesperson interrupting us to try and sell specialty dining packages, wine tastings, etc.

I finally got fed up one morning at breakfast and asked the salesperson, "would it be possible for us to enjoy a meal without constant interruptions from someone trying to sell us something?" She said, "Okay." Then she walked away muttering, "we're just doing our jobs."

Literally 5 minutes later, someone else stopped by our table asking if any of us had changed our minds about it.

I get that it's not their fault that Royal Caribbean has turned the main dining room into a time share-style high pressure sales environment with a captive audience. I'm sure they have quotas to meet. But I should be allowed to express my displeasure with the experience.

Just did a 7 day on Oasis, not 1 person ever came up to me in the MDR or WJ. Maybe it was the charming warmth I exude?:D:D

  4. We were on the Navigaor last week. With a large gin and tonic $8.50, we would have needed to drink 7 a night to break even. Every night for 14 days? If you are an alcoholic then go for it. We would prefer to wake up without a hangover and be able to see the ports we visit.....

You are thinking about it all wrong. With the Deluxe package you not only get the alcohol but all the drinks from the mid-tier package and the bottom level package. So say the mid-tier package which includes all soda, bottled water and premium coffees is 26 dollars a day per person. Say the Deluxe package is 55 dollars a day per person. So that is a 29 dollar per day difference. That is just 2 premium 13 dollar cocktails and a bottle of water to break even.

Look at it another way... So say you get a couple bottles of water and a premium coffee type drink. That takes care of the first 15 - 20 dollars per day from your 55 dollars. So that leaves you with 35 to 40 dollars to reach break even (or being in the money as I say). You get just 2 premium type alcoholic drinks at 13 dollars each, there is 26 leaving you at 9 to 14 dollars left to break even per day. That is say a second coffee or a premium juice type drink from the Promenade Cafe. Or.... say you roll over that 14 dollars to the next day which is a sea day. Sit around the pool and order 3 to 4 of those premium 13 dollar drinks and you break even for that day and make up for the previous day. Very easy to do.

  5. You wish it would be cheap. You booked during hurricane season but now want to complain. No cruise I've ever taken in 38 was a "garbage cruise" and you picked it... didn't get switched. I'll take your place.

In my opinion the 2 Mexican ports and Nassau are low end crappy ports of call. That's the reason we never book them. They are being forced on us by RCLL due to the hurricane. We had great Eastern ones picked out. And I'm complaining, as are many others because St. Kitts is good to go as is Labadee but because we cannot pull in for our meager 7.5hr San Juan port of call they switched everything on us. And many are pissed. We were hoping to just add a sea day in lieu of San Juan.

  6. It will be cheap to cruise next September that's for sure. I know from now on from August 1 to Oct 15 we will never book again. Got switched to a garbage western 7 day on RCCL after planning months for our Eastern Caribbean vacation. Now we are stuck standing in lines on the ship to find excursions. Never again!

  7. I can understand that you may be willing to give them time to work it out if your cruise is one or two weeks or longer away. But what about those of us who are two days out and have heard nothing? Clearly we are not leaving from Puerto Rico on Saturday. If they can change ports that's great, I'm willing to go. But will I be able to get a flight on such short notice? and what will it cost? My heart goes out to those people who have lost everything, I can't imagine what they are going through. A cruise is a luxury, not a necessity, I get it, but zero communication is just wrong. The latest itinierary changes still list the cruise as going to St Kitts and from what I understand St Kitts had significant damage. My travel agent said yesterday that Adventure is still listed as sailing on Saturday. If we choose to rebook now, we would lose the future credit so that is not an option. I've found an alternative option but there are very few cabins left at the level I'm booking and they could go quickly. RC says they will let us know by early this afternoon but in my humble opinion less than 48 hours notice is unacceptable. They dropped the ball on this one. They should just bite the bullet, cancel the cruise leaving this weekend and let us make our plans

My money is they are just going to cancel this cruise and refund and add future cruise percentage off.

  8. Though I also think St Maarten will be rapidly rebuilding, I'd be surprised if it's more than a couple months before ships return, if not sooner.

Even now people are trying to get off the island that have lived there for years and years. They are saying the infrastructure is just to far gone and they are wanting to start over somewhere else. This storm cannot be compared to any others. There is no money coming in (tourism is their life blood) other than from governments. It will be at least a year if not longer.

  9. Well, for those sailing from Port Canaveral next Sunday, 9/24 (I'm supposed to be on Oasis), GFS model shows (for now) a Cat 1 hurricane (982mb) off the coast. Unbelievable!! While forecast models can change drastically (see Irma), those sailing from Florida on Sunday 9/24 need to keep an eye on the websites or TV channel of your choice. Stay informed! I'm hoping Oasis can get in and get back out without delays. I don't want a shortened cruise but will take a Western Caribbean if need be.

    Model run for 2pm, Sunday 9/24: https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=gfs&region=us&pkg=mslp_pcpn_frzn&runtime=2017091406&fh=252&xpos=0&ypos=100

It's one of these that the GFS develops into a hurricane: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5

  10. Hello! Looking for some guidance. We've had our Royal Caribbean cruise booked for ages sailing to St Martin, San Juan and Labadee. We depart on the Oasis 9/24. Just got notification that after Irma's destruction of St Martin (my heart goes out to that island) we will be visiting St Kitts instead.

We are experienced cruisers and local Floridians. Family of 4, two kids ages 7 & 10. I've read through a lot on this sub and haven't seen too much geared to families. We were planning on taking a speedboat day tour in St Martin that included many snorkeling stops and beach breaks. I've never been to St Kitts, but it seems there aren't a lot of beach options like some of the other islands? The pictures seem to have very small areas crowded with chairs. I'm not really into land tours, we really like having a local restaurant/bar and water activities. We usually get on a sail/snorkel excursion months in advance and this being a last minute change I'm afraid our options will be very limited.

Any advice? Thank you in advance!!

They just posted the excursions for St. Kitts today in the cruise planner. I just booked 2 slots on the 6 hour catamaran and snorkel to Nevis. Slots likely going to go quick.

  11. I'm on the Oasis 9/24 sailing and got the St. Kitts email change as well. Said to book new excursions on board or online via cruise planner. Problem is the itinerary is not yet updated in the cruise planner showing any excursions or the times in port. With Oasis having to travel an additional 46nm which is just over 2 hours at normal cruising speed (likely they adjust the speed for the 2 days at sea to account for the increase but RCCL knows that costs more money by burning more fuel so who knows...) so the times in port are not shown yet. Don't want to book a 3rd party tour like mentioned above until the times are locked down.
