  1. Thanks for your responses everyone. Yes, I am interested in upgrades and upsells. I guess the odds of getting either of these with 4 people in a cabin are astronomical.

I hadn't thought about having two cabins and being offered an upgrade to another level. Maybe an upgrade strategy for a family of 4 is to book 2 cabins (that can support 4 people) with 2 people in each cabin on a popular cruise that has high odds of selling out. The only problem is that is a more expensive option. If an upgrade doesn't come through, you are paying a LOT more for 4 people in the two cabins. I guess if you are willing to GAMBLE, it is all good.

  2. I've love hearing when folks get upgraded to a better cabin than they originally booked. From the posts I've seen here on Princess board, it seems like most upgrades that have been reported happened with 2 people in the cabin. I understand that the number of cabins that can fit 4 are limited on most ships, therefore the odds of being upgraded with 4 people in a cabin are even lower.

Has anyone ever been upgraded (or offered an upsell) with 4 people in a cabin? Just curious. Thanks in advance!

  3. Never had this happen -- booked several months ago directly with Princess. Our category is now selling for less and the onboard credit offer appears to be higher. We are paying for four adults/2 cabins so this would add up to several hundred dollars. If I contact Princess will they give me the lower price?

I think it depends on if you are past your final payment. Before final payment, they should be able to change with no problem. After final payment, you ask but I don't think you will get a reduction.

  4.

My guess is we'll see a plan sometime in the future that allows you to pay a set fee for the digital copies of your photos from the cruise. That price will probably be higher than I'd want to pay myself, but I'm sure others might end up liking it. (I think Disney might have some type of plan like that now? Never been myself, but I thought my relatives have mentioned it.)

YES...We were on the Disney Wonder 5 years ago and they tagged your room key when taking pictures. You then could go to one of the kiosks in the picture section of the ship and tag your room key and to see digitally all of the pictures that where taken by you and your family (they linked families together so you could see other members of your family at the kiosk). You then could order on the kiosk any pictures you wanted and had an option to get them digitally via CD. I was thinking Princess eventually do something similar, but that does not seem to be the case.

  5. It wouldn't be so bad if they had some type of package deal. If you look at how many pictures go unclaimed and they destroy, it is an absolute waste. On our last cruise, we declined taking pictures. Since I knew we were not going to buy them, I figured why contribute to the waste? On our next trip, we will probably do the formal pictures but, all of the pictures exiting and boarding the ship, we will again decline.

  6. Does anybody know for sure.............

Is the Terrace Pool Aloha AFT adult only or not?

Princess site does not mention adult only, however when googling it some other sites, pics etc.... say it is?

Since we're thinking about being very close to it with our 5 year old it would be somewhat torturous for her and us if it was adult only so I'm hoping the princess site should know what it's talking about.

The signs do say adult only. When we were on the Star last summer, we did see a few parents ignoring the signs and going into pool with their children. Of course, when staff was alerted, the kids were asked to leave.

If you are in that part of the ship, I suggest going a few decks up to deck 16. Their is a small Oasis Pool that has splash pool next to it and a hot tub. It is right next to the deck chess and underneath the walk to SkyWalkers. We rarely saw anyone up there on our cruise. Your 5 year old can play in the splash pool and you can watch while in the hot tub. Just a thought.

  7. We started family cruising with Disney and switched over to Princess for a variety of reasons last year. So far, we have a whole two cruises with Princess under our belt :) Like you we have two kids (ours are now 9 and 11). We were very nervous last summer when we boarded the Star Princess in SF for a 10 day cruise to Alaska. Mainly because the kids fell in love with the Disney cruises and the wealth of activities Disney has.

Our kids enjoyed the kids clubs a LOT. Our fears were quickly gone. What we would suggest is that if you cruise Princess, go with an open mind and a clean slate. Try not to make comparisons to NCL and focus on making your cruise work for you and your family. There were a lot of things that Disney had the Princess does not. But once we focused on making certain everyone was having fun, we didn't think about differences.

We cruised again with Princess during Thanksgiving break last year as well (this time on the Golden Princess). The kids had fun, we had fun and now we are booked for a holiday cruise for Christmas this year. If you go into the cruise with the right attitude, you will have nothing to worry about. Just my two cents. Have a WONDERFUL cruise!

  8. Can anyone tell me which ships have private hot tubs on the balconies? We did Celebrity and it was so nice to come back to suite and relax in our own hot tub? Also, anyone with pics with be sooooo appreciative :)

    Thanks for any help here!

The Grand Princess has a couple of suites as mentioned. I think they are the Owners suites. Take a look at the video in this post on the boards not to long ago:

Would LOVE to be in any suite but it has not been in the cards for us (yet).

  9. Do they tornaments?

I believe tournaments will vary from ship to ship. On our last cruise this past July on the Star Princess, my husband signed up for two blackjack tournaments. The buy in was $20 with the winner taking $500. Unfortunately he didn't win either tournament and placed in the top 3 both times. For this he won Princess t-shirts and hat. They also gave the final table participants a free bingo card and a free match play (if you put down $5 , the match play certificate would count as $5 on one play of any table game).

They did have a slot tournament while we were on board but he did not partake in that. He had a lot of fun though.

  10. I agree that DCL is worth the money. My husband and I also agreed that DCL is a little heavy on our wallets. We took a 10 cruise on DCL Wonder a couple of years ago and our kids LOVED it. They had a "Kids Sail Free" promotion that made the cost fit within our budget. I really wanted to go to Alaska and were planning to do that through DCL. The food and the service we had on the Wonder was very memorable. We decided to try Princess and will be cruising Alaska this summer.

I think if we all had unlimited funds we would do our cruises differently in some fashion (more spa visits, have balconies or suites, etc....). We would definitely book again with DCL in a heartbeat. What it comes down to is having fun with what you can afford. For me it's all about spending time with my family. My husband can disconnect himself from his job and we create memories that our kids will remember for a lifetime.
