  1. She states they have never done priority disembakation on any ship she has been on. I showed her in the literature she had beside her desk and she gave me # 3..

Always funny how there is usually written proof of how things did/does/should work and you still get some of these types of responses how it has "never" been a certain way. What was her response when you showed her her own literature?

  2. We just booked 11327 on the Allure. We chose deck 11 so we would not be right under the pool deck. We picked 327 instead of 329, so we wouldn't have our balcony 100% covered by the above structure and because we prefer our bed be closer to the balcony to give us more space by the closet. Otherwise, the bed is right up to the closet as the the cabin layouts alternate. You can see the comparison someone did on the Oasis here:

As for when to book, you can always book now and then check prices/perks on board. If it makes more sense to book on board, you can always cancel the existing booking and re-book. If not, you've already locked in a good price.

    +1

  3. I'm really excited about a possible first RCCL sailing. I'm wondering if the decor and/or condition of Oasis is starting to show her age? I realize she's not an old ship by any means but I can't find much info on her dry-dock improvements so I'm under the impression that she's mostly original. Am I wrong? Does she still seem like a modern ship?

    Thanks!

While I find the other comments pretty amusing I'll chime in as we were on the Oasis this past April.

All I can say is. PERFECT! I've been on many cruises and the smaller ships (Radiance Class) have always been my favorite, but the Oasis was perfect.

What you tend to find on my RCCL ships is that they go through refurbs, but you can tell when an area of the ship was made for something else, but they decided to do something different with it. That is absolutely not the case on the Oasis class and the Oasis specifically for this thread. You can see there was much thought put into each and every area with the decor/amenities to match. For a ship that size I was surprised how well each and every area was done.

I would not worry at all. It's a beautiful ship/class!

  4. There is no guarantee they will answer you before 3-4weeks out. Last year I wanted a cabana and sent email at four weeks with no response. Then again at two weeks and I got a confirmation that I had the two I wanted. Then at one week the mass email went out to all suite holders with an offer to book 11 of the remaining cabanas.

That's been our experience as well. We were able to get what we asked for, but they didn't communicate with us until about 2 weeks out or so. They have to prioritize their work or everyone would be consuming their time regardless of how far out the cruise is.

  5. Typically dining reservations open 90 days out, but recently those times have extended further out (first of the year for a Sept sailing is unlikely). You should be able to reserve a table for 6. Subscribe to the Roll Call for your sailing and someone will likely announce on that thread when dining bookings open.

In addition you can also email RCLDining@rccl . com

  6. I get not giving your money away any earlier than you need to, but it seems to be more on principle than helping financially. I'm assuming we're talking hundreds not tens of thousand of dollars. Your personal financial situation and how you feel based on principal will determine the best use of your money and when. But, in most cases having a couple hundred dollars "working for you" probably won't amount to much.

I book excursions ahead of time and pay for it ahead of time. However, I make my final payment on the final payment due date. But, that's based on principle with giving up my money, not that it actually makes a difference to my financial bottom line.

  7. Yeah because we all knew what you meant to post.

You're kind of a DB. But, I guess we should've known that by how you meant to come across with your post. Thanks for your added value to the discussion.

Our GS was not ready until 1:00 pm like the majority of cabins on our Oasis cruise this past April. That being said, we only had backpacks and were hanging out with our roll call group at the pool bar. So, didn't matter to us.

  8. I'm sure the ck manager knows who the sea class guests are and would see them in the bar if they weren't welcome to stick around after dinner for free drinks. I do think the bartenders get to know everyone so it might be obvious that way as well. With that said I'm sure they are pretty liberal on such issues within reason. But I doubt a sea class using the sl regularly happens much other than a one off mistake or the Cl letting them.

Like everything on a cruise, YMMV. I know once I've made friends with any of the staff there are many things you can get or be part of that may not necessarily be available to the masses. The SL and/or CL is no different. Make friends and don't abuse the benefit and your bound to get some extras. I have brought both family and friends into the DL and SL without issue. But, I've only done it once on the cruise and only for one drink. No issue.

  9. Hi,

I just booked my Independence of the Seas cruise for November and looking for some information.

    1. Cruise Compass

    2. Bogo dinner. I will have 4 adults, 2 12 yr olds and 2 yr old. Will we be able to dine at at specialty restaurants and does anyone know of the the prices for the pre teens.

    3. Also, how safe is it to leave the 2 yr old in baby and tots club. I've done the kids clubs but my kids were much older.

    Thx

Take a look here for 4 night Independence Cruise Compass and Photos

  10. The current promo is 60% off the second guest. Since the balcony discount is deducted from the fare of the first guest, then we get the full balcony discount on the current promo. When they go back to 30% off each guest, then we will lose part of the discount again.

I'm talking about the overall cost compared between C&A vs non-C&A booking.

If a non-C&A booking costs $1,000 I would expect that after the $225 C&A discount the C&A booking would cost $775. But, that's not what happens, because of how the 60% off is applied.

I think we're saying the same thing, but looking at it differently.

Either way it's a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

  11. It's happened to me on my last two cruises where sales included OBC that wasn't combineable with the C&A discount and the OBC was a higher value. I guess that makes the situation slightly different than just the price of the cruise. But, essentially it still affects the total cost of the cruise in the end.

In general though the $225 balcony/suite discount ends up being less than $100 cheaper in the end since they deduct that amount first then deduct the sale percentage. It's never the full amount. This is of course in comparison to a non-C&A discount booking with the percentage deducted on the higher price resulting in a higher discount on that line item.

  12. I know most of you already know how this works and know how much has changed over the years, but I still can't help but get a bit annoyed when I look at booking a cruise and see how the C&A discounts just really don't work in our favor much anymore. What bothers me is the fact that as a C&A members our balcony/suite discount doesn't account for anything of real value most of the time now days. A few pennies cheaper here and there and in most cases booking without the C&A discount is better as their so called sales are better for new customers than the discount is for returning customers since they are not combineable like they used to be. And, when they are combineable (BOHO) it's really cute that they deduct the C&A discount first then take the sale percentage off. Essentially, lowering the overall discount.

I get it. It's business and if I don't like it I can take my business elsewhere. But, it would be nice every now again to see all the money I've spent with them in the past hold more value like it use to.

That being said, like most of us, it doesn't stop from me booking (which is probably the only answer that would produce change). But, it also doesn't stop me from hoping they eventually listen and make some changes to the program for our benefit.

Again, I know the horse is dead and beaten, but a few more kicks help me feel better.

  13. NO POOL in the solarium on harmony. BIG MISTAKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's ok with us that there's no pool. We do enjoy the solarium to relax for a few moments, but it reminds me of the movie Cocoon. Not exactly the most lively area of the ship. I will say the Oasis class solarium's are the nicest we've seen. High quality for sure.
