  1. Will do. Just hoped Cunard would have had someone to contact in situations like these. Sad for my family who have spent christmas day tooing and froing from the hotel because we were told the cunard rep would be here at three. Lesson learnt don't trust cunard to arrange transfers!

  2. Absolutely disgusted. Booked for the transatlantic with three days in new york flights and transfer. Fly home tonight when we left ship we were told transfer information will be sent to hotel. Every day we have been told they have nothing at reception. Still no information hotel has no idea what's going on, supposed to be a cunard rep here at 3, still no-one 40 minutes later. Hotel doesn't have contact details normally they just show up. Wasting precious time in new york. We got through to US office yesterday who said rep would be here to help today but not a single number I can find is open now. Any ideas?!

  3. Hello,

A few questions before our first transatlantic crossing leaves on Friday!

How early does the bag drop open? We were hoping to ditch our bags and head into town for some shopping before boarding so wanted to know how early we can do this. It is ocean terminal if that makes a difference.

Does Cunard do a house wine? I can't recall there being one on our trip on the Victoria last year but with the drinks price increases since wondering if wine is a better option. On a similar vein do they have a bin end list on the QM2?

We are a party of 3 and have been allocated a table for 4 in the main dining room, what is the likelyhood we will have this to ourselves?

Any top tips would be much appreciated, in that excited/ stressed packing stage as we travel down tomorrow straight from work :)

  4. I was also on the Aurora last week. Echoes in the night was created by Ruthie Henshall who introduced it. I quite liked Fantasy, a new one for me with disco hits with a storyline about an old disco hall. The cast had joined at the same time as us in Southampton so weren't partaking in the whole program. Their singing was far better that their acting! Charley the Ents officer was taking over line dancing for their first 6 weeks while they got the shows right. I did feel the cruise was lacking in terms of Entertainment, only one show a night most nights rather than the usual one in Carmens and one in theatre. The shows we did have were pretty good. Alex the Entertainment manager was fantastic, it was scheduled to be Neil Kelly who had injured himself so Alex was covering. The comedian was Vince Earl and Jamie Allen was the magician. We also had twisted sister who did a Beatles and a Rock show having re-arranged the original songs to different styles.

  5. It is the peninsular club magazine. My mum gets them but when she got the last one I made sure I opted into postal marketing so we will see.

    Website states:

The Peninsular Club magazine, Moments, is delivered by post twice a year in spring and in autumn.

If you are a member of the Peninsular Club and have opted in to receive mailings and have cruised with

  6. Hello,

Has anybody had the latest copy? I am really keen to know the officer schedule for our upcoming Aurora cruise which leaves a month tomorrow. Particularly the Entertainment manager as it looked like it would be Leon De Ste Croix and that would absolutely make my mums cruise!

  7. I would appreciate the chance even to purchase said package, as you can with Royal Caribbean (not that I have sailed with them but from looking online for a future cruise).

I used the soda package last time which was great value and will do on my upcoming transatlantic but the chance to pay a set amount and not have to keep track would be nice. It isn't just for the alcoholic beverages but for the coffees, mocktails, fresh juices and bottled mixers. They all add up at the end of the day!

  8. Our return flight from a transatlantic was initially booked to Birmingham 17 months in advance, confirmed 7 months later as 19:25 Newark to Birmingham, fine. Then 3 months later we were informed it had changed to JFK at 16:30 via Amsterdam. I was most upset about losing 3 hours in New York rather than the change so called the agent I booked with who had a number of options we could change to including a later non direct flight. Settled for a 22:30 direct from JFK to Heathrow which is actually more convenient for us. From the current prices it looks like this was actually cheaper so why it was changed in the first place I do not know. Sometimes you just have to ask. :)

  9. Yes exactly.

I hadn't thought of YouTube, we are in port the following day so should be able to watch over breakfast. Thanks for your help!

There are various ways the OP can watch it when she gets home (On Demand, BBC iPlayer, NowTV etc.)

But I get the impression she doesn't want to read/hear the result before she gets the chance to actually watch it somewhere.

So don't read the daily onboard newspaper you get in your cabin. Don't switch on the news channels in your cabin.

  10. Hello,

May seem a strange question to some, but I will be on the QV when the final of the bake off is on. Does anybody know (satellite permitting) whether BBC1 is available anywhere onboard? Looks like the in cabin tv only has ITV. I will of course enjoy my cruise regardless but it would be nice to watch it without knowing who has won already.

  11. So we fly from T5 to Rome in a few weeks, very excited. BA Charter at 7:40 in the morning. Just wondered about peoples check in experience. Cunard says check in opens 4 hours before the flight is this accurate? I have never flown when a desk has opened more than 3 hours before. Typical catch 22 of get there early and guarantee a seat together with a chance to relax in a lounge before or risk it get an extra couple of hours in bed and be separated. If only online check in was available I would be far less stressed!

Also is it worth buying breakfast or will something be provided on the plane?

I presume by the time we get our bags, get on the coaches, travel an hour, get a full planes worth of people onboard it will be 2pm at the earliest before we can explore.

Interesting that Cunard require you to collect your bags then pass them onto someone else. My only other fly cruise experience was with P&O and our bags were checked in at Birmingham, next time we saw them was in the cabin.

Any experiences, tips and tricks would be much appreciated!

  12. Spoke to two different agents this morning first time asked for gift credit second time asked to purchase dollars in pounds and both said they would charge my card in dollars and the bank decides rate :(

Anybody got any other suggestions of how to word it or the name of a specific agent who knows how to deal with this?

  13. We go next week got a 14:30 time for Britannia, fine if we were driving but when the hotel kicks us out at 12 its not worth paying for Grand Harbour Lounge (nor dragging our bags around town to pay for another taxi to terminal) so we will be waiting at the terminal. Better to do that and maybe get on early than sit at the hotel reception with our packed bags. We are then joining Ventura the same day on return and have a 15:30 allocated time. Apparently p&o will assist us between terminals according to faq but again looks like another long wait as the lounge and extra transfers just not worth it. There are 7 of us so will add up plus we all have different times between the 3 cabins. Would rather spend our money on board getting to know the ship than twiddling our thumbs paying for the privilege. Not bothered about cabin being ready either being onboard having dropped our bags through the hole is the important thing. Will have to wait and see what happens, will have my kindle and supplies to hand. I am really hoping p&o prove peoples recent experiences are teething problems and everything runs smoothly. Think I will finally relax when I step onboard the Ventura to be honest!

  14. Hello, I just wondered if anybody had experience of being able to upgrade once on board. To do so before would cost 1000's according to our agent. I appreciate if the cruise is full it wouldnt be possible but just wondered. What would the approximate price be for a 12 night cruise from an Inside to any other grade?

  15. Hello,

We are docking at Funchal on the 31st March and doing a morning tour which lasts from 9:30 to 13:30 to visit the caves. The question is do we have the time to do the toboggan on our own before AOB at 17:30/18:00?

Does anyone have suggestions for the quickest way to do it and approximate price per person?

    Thanks in advance.

  16. How interesting! We checked approx 3 weeks ago for a cruise in March for a three berth and there was no early saver. By the time we came round to booking two weeks ago early saver had appeared and we booked a three berth inside cabin on this fare. It was available for Balcony and Outside but the OBC would have rendered these fares more expensive. HTH.
