We buy water from Princess. They leave the bottles in the room and it is very inexpensive. Last we went you could still carry on soda and wine. Check the regulations for wine. I think 1 bottle should be fine.

Of course jeans are fine on formal night. Everywhere on the ship except in the main dining rooms.

We dropped my parents off at their muster station early and then went to ours in a different area. They waited for us to retrieve them afterwards. No problem.

We found plenty to do on ship. They did have lectures about Alaska. They have sled puppies on some ships one day. We watched movies and played trivia. We read, spent time watching the goings on in the Piazza. Night shows. We don't gamble so no casino. Read the patters every evening for the next day and you should find something.

When we cruise we disconnect. No internet unless it's free with your status. Our friend had to work a little on our last cruise and she prepurchased the internet package because it was less expensive. If we need to check in at home we wait until we are in port and use an international calling plan or find free wi-fi. Just depends on what your needs are.

We had port side. Loved it through the Canal. From Chiapas to LA no land view but we weren't really close anyway. No bad choices here.

I loved Island princess and would go again but that being said you are correct that the space is limited.

There is not a hub of entertainment in the piazza on Island Princess. No seating or international cafe. There was music played by a quartet as we lined up for dinner but no dancing. I enjoyed the Island princess but was sad that there wasn't more in the Piazza. Star Princess has the International Cafe and had egg drops, horse racing, fruit carving, and much more in the Piazza plus some entertainment. The evening show were good on both.

We were on Ruby in January and we used it. Nice way to look at the activities and communicate. Just wish it alerted the person and you didn't have to keep checking the app.

When we were on the Island lines were long at 5 to 5:30. Seemed to slow done after that. I always prefer traditional but know that there are many opinions about this.
