  1. How this happened, I do not know... But we did not get a copy of the room service / minibar menu. We have some water, beer, and soda prices, but that's all.

We're totally ashamed. (Hanging head, looking sad.)

I couldn't find a copy of the room service /minibar menu on HALFacts.com, so if anyone has one to share, that would be great.

Thanks for getting back to me. No worries. At least now I know how I can contribute to this thread! I'll get a photo and share!

  2. You want maps, local info, ANYTHING about all the ports you are going, just Google each port, find the link to their tourism site and email them EXACTLY what you want and need. They will be more than happy to mail you whatever you ask for.

We wanted a walking tour map of Copenhagen, we did what I said and received several wonderful maps, with some great walking tours and many other great ideas of things to do. We did the same for Stockholm and Helsinki. We had printed out one for Tallinn, and a fellow CCer gave us one for Rostock, where we had planned to go from Warnemunde.

I am one who likes to have a plan A in place before we go and a Plan B in place when we get there if Plan A isn't very good. Having these in advance helped tremendously.

    Cheers

Thanks! this is great. I just wasn't sure if the tourist offices would do this! Hope my maps arrive in the mail soon!

  3. Sorry about that - i meant..

Do you have a copy of the room service menu for drinks?

And if you have any info on the cost of a plain regular latte/cappucino (with no alcohol)... that would be great but I understand if it was out of scope for your research.

    You're quite welcome.

Can you give us some clarification on what you are seeking when you posted, "In one of the links you posted #347 - I was expecting the room beverage charges but I couldn't find them. Do you have any photo or list of available in-room beverages and charges?"

There's a really good chance that we have what you're looking for, but I just don't know what it is. Do you want a copy of the room service beverage menu, or are you looking to see what we ordered from our minibar? We have both, but I'm a little unclear as to what you are asking. Thanks!

  4. My husband and I are going on our first cruise together. We would like to explore most ports on our own.

I would like to get a map of each city centre. I prefer not to have to print them from google/the internet.

How can I get a map? Will they have them onboard the ship? If I write to each tourist board will they send me one?

  5. The Hotel Service Charge is basically a daily charge for gratuities for the service staff. Some call it "auto-tipping" but some don't like that notion. While HAL charges it on a daily basis some lines, mostly the luxury ones, do indeed wrap it up in the basis fare. Some like it the way it is, some would prefer the lines just include it in the fare and get it over with. There are all sorts of pros and cons on this subject, more than I want to even try to cover in a single post. :)

Thanks for the explanation. And I assume that I'm supposed to tip on top of that. A tip should be for good service.. not demanded or added on as an expected extra. Goodness.

  6. I'm cruising to Alaska on May 3 and I'm told by HAL that there will be a $60 per day hold on my credit card for any and all charges that I may incur while on the cruise. I'm also told that I will be charged $11.50 per day for tips. This equates to almost $600 on my card even before we sail.

What is the $60 per day for? And, what is the point of me purchasing a Beverage Package (or anything else for that matter) if everything I do that has a charge will be deducted from this charge?

I'm not a big drinker so I know there is no way I will drink $60 per day...and anything I purchase in the shops, etc. will be on my credit card.

    Am I missing something?

What is this about? $11.50 for some hotel charge? Why isn't my fare already covering this?

  7. Well, I guess most of you will be cancelling your cruises to the Arabic countries then. Also China. At least Russia doesn't treat women like dogs as in the Arabic countries. Russia also doesn't have any sweatshops where minor children and women are worked to death like in China. Get your protest priorities straight, please.

I live in the UAE. I definitely don't see women treated like dogs. Far from it. They are far more educated than the men. They have leadership positions in both the private sector and public. They get specialty services just for them. and i could go on and on and on. It's time to stop breeding ignorance.
