    Mdr

Interested In a comment from anyone with recent experience finding in the Holland America main dining rooms. We were on thw Nieuw Amsterdam last November and thought the dinners were horrid, Not up to usual Holland America standards. Sent from my SM-G960U using Forums mobile app
  2. On recent cruise a woman asked bartender if he would wash her metal bud light bottles so she could use them as h2o bottles. Sent from my SM-G960U using Forums mobile app
  3. Any way Just some thoughts from my germaphobe Cruising comrades and those who might want to stay healthy and avoid food Borne illness. Some rules that my family and I follow possibly overkill but we have never gotten ill. Assume no one else on the ship washes their hands properly, Assume everyone else is carrying germs , and therefore Assume all surfaces And utensils that are not in your room are contaminated. Try not to touch any surfaces such as handrails etc, if you must use a towel Piece of clothing To protect your hand, use an Elbow to press elevator buttons. If you touch surfaces with your hands wash as soon as possible. When Washing hands use a clean towel cloth or paper to shut off the water and open the door, If no trash can drop the cloth on the floor. Purell Does not kill a significant amount of bacteria nor those remove bacteria from your hands. It is insufficient and you should wash your hands prior to eating and Drinking (could use Purell after hand Washing). What worries wash hands before dining in any venue, do not touch anything on your way to your table. Eating in the MDR or other sit down venues with service I would wash my hands after reding the menu.If sharing a table with those that are not in your party I Would wash again if I shook hands. I would also request a separate Breadbasket and butter And not eat from anything that was passed. When eating at the buffet I wash my hands before sitting down after Handling tongs etc. Many times we take a Clean pool towel or several napkins and make a table cloth. Never touch and uncovered table surface, Don't touch chairs , don't use salt and pepper Shakers that are on the Table, handled by many people, recently saw someone take the top of a sold sticker and stick his fingers inside. We take several pool towels and cover all surfaces of deck chairs before sitting down. I could go on but you get the drift . Also regarding many people and their "bed behavior " I think for them It is a matter of entitlement, they are so important and can do whatever they want complete disregard for their neighbors. 4. After many many cruises many things come to mind. Obviously th we re are the folks who just can't keep their hands off of the food at buffet and insist on grabbing items. On a HAL cruise recently, at buffet they serve first 2 days and there are no tongs, no one is to touch. Woman in line in front of me touches every chafing dish with here hands. I had the staff replace the entire station. While we all see non toilet trained kids in pool, I saw a mom and grandmom change their baby's highly soiled diaper on a table in the Lido dinning room (near the buffet) How gross and selfish. We pointed this out to staff who "reprimanded" the parents. Father threatened us, unpleasantry for the rest if the week. Guys who bring drinks into the mens room and rest them on the urinals, ugh. I always hope that dude w that drink doesn't show up at my dinner table Sent from my SM-G960U using Forums mobile app

First time Aqua Class Not Enamored

Yes Blu is complimentary w aqua class but it is the sole reason we chose to pay for aqua class Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app
  6. So just returned today from the 8 day Summit repo San Juan to Bayonne. Have cruised Celebrity numerous times and have heard good things about aqua class mostly regarding Blu restaurant. Decided to try this trip. Blu is open seating. We were immediately put off first two nights when we arrived about 7:30 pm and were handed beepeers and asked to wait for a table. Not acceptable for an upscaled upcharged venue. Should have capacity to seat all when arriving. It is advertised as an upscale "clean" establishment. Menus seemed pretentious and overly complicated. The dishes are poorly executed, not very tasty. Plenty of poorly prepared and overly thick sauces. Waiters did not explain the menu. Aqua class room was nothing special, a lttle air freshiner, a larger table on the veranda, and a few jets in the shower. Interested in any ones recent experiences? HAL vs Celebrity

We have cruised Celebrity and HAL many times, elite on celebrity and 3 star mariner on HAL. For what its worth we did not cruose on HAL 2016/2017 season, and cruised on HAL Nov 17. In the past food in main dinning room (mdr) on HAL has been terrific usually a cut above. Was on the Nieuw Amsterdam this November and the food in t mdr sucked, both in terms of taste and resentation. Horrid considering no nore HAL! Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app
  11. Have shopped B & H for years. Great reliable used dept. if you want to save some bucks. I have been very happy with their used equipment. Have also sold stuff for decent prices. Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app

    Hands in Everything

This mostly concerns meals in the Lido/buffet. Seems that many folks do not use provided utensils to take food, but would rather use their grubby hands. People are always grabbing bread, cookies, pastry. On most recent cruise I noticed a woman t along sushi from the display with her fingers. There was a guy taking strawberys from a serving bowel examining them and putting ones he didn't like back. I've noticed people taking dogs and burgers directly from grill with their hands. Even when food is served on the line lots of morons feel they need to touch chafing dishes with their hands. Does anyone else think this is a problem, think stomach illness ie norovirus and others as well as other communical diseases. These cruisers are downright inconsiderate, I bet they never even wash their hands. Other gross stuff. Guys who bring drinks into men's room and the to dinner. We once encountered a family who changed their baby's diapers in the Lido dinning room. Any ideas how to stop this madness. Have spoken to several dinning room managers who say there is nothing they can do. Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app

    High alcohol prices

We too live near NYC and have found prices for beer and hard liquor to be commensurate with local bars and restaurants, actually cheaper the Manhattan. Just for comparison we usually drink a top shelf Vodka (ie Chopin, Kettl 1 etc) & Jack Daniels. Beer on tap. We usually have only a few drinks a day. Folks need to drink lots to break even on a package. Also need to consider different packages and what brands may or nay not be included. My real problem is with markup on wine, bottles that cost $10-20 at home go for $30 to 40+. 3 to 4 bottles for seven night cruise. Quite a ripoff but that's the way it is, I can't be bothered carryinhbottles from home(pack through luggage?). For what it's worth we do not have any sugary Fru fru drinks nor do we get mixers or soda. All drinks neat or in rocks. Sent from my SM-G920V using Forums mobile app

Just a bit curious about the Panama Canal locks ferry trip

Was on Panama Canal cruise several years ago, cruise ship turned around in lake Gatun and did not transverse entire canal. We took tour on a small boat through entire canal to Pacific. Great trip interesting sites and a different view of canal and locks. Also returned by bus however we ran into a storm. Colon looked like a dump glad we did not visit. A great trip.
