  1. We stayed in a mid ship mini suite on 11 under the pool deck three times.  Yes, in the morning you can hear some chair scrapes as they work up there.  It didn’t bother us.  It ended quickly as they got that work done.  The cabin is roomy and nice and the balcony is fun and those little details do not bother us.   On white hot party night we could hear the beat of the music, but that ended early.  Enjoy your cruise!

  2. We got off the Dawn in San Juan on Nov. 12. There were plenty of taxis at the cruise port. We stayed at the Hilton Doubletree. They not only have power, but service and food in the cafe were exceptional. There didn’t seem to be that many people around, and few tourists. For good reason. Almost everything is closed. We took a taxi one of the 3 days we stayed there. We wanted to try to see something of the fort and old town. After much walking, we found it Impossible to get a taxi. A police officer said he hadn’t seen a taxi in that area for two months. We found a cab line at the Sheridan, and a nice driver who showed us around. He said no cabs are running because there are no tourists. His rate was $38 an hour, which we thought was very reasonable. The bellhop at the hotel and front desk etc, seemed not to know about the fact that no taxis are cruising, since there are NO tourists. Lots of FEMA workers, police, highway patrol from New Jersey, coast guard and the Red Cross hospital ship Comfort, with big tents for people who were waiting for service. We did not feel unsafe. We felt that San Juan is not ready for tourists. Few stores or restaurants open. No traffic lights—the lights and poles are missing...lots of hurricane damage and no electricity except by big generators, some guarded by police officers.

Just our experience. People could not have been kinder or more helpful, as they dealt with no power and shortages. God Bless Puerto Rico!!

  3. This is a funny interesting thread. I have overpacked for a couple of cruises and am determined to learn from my mistakes! I do take a baggie “medicine bag”. And try to follow the rule to take half out...but. It’s fun to make a list (I use OneNote and include some pictures;), but I have a lot of fun planning to have a great time! Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas.

  4. Everyone is in the same boat, and it is frustrating not to know where we are going, and worrisome since Puerto Rico is in such a bad state...no water, electricity and shortages of gas and food. Every day the news is worse. I'm hoping we hear from NCL in the next two days. Plans need to change, and I for one, am happy to go to any port and share the wealth, but I'm counting on the Red Cross to share my wealth with Puerto Rico and the affected islands.

  5. We went to LaCucina as part of the romance package in May and had a filet mignonette that was wonderful. Granted, they lost our reservation, so we were seated outside near Gatsbys, but that was a fine place for us and the food was amazing. We were pleasantly surprised since we were there years ago and it was not that great. Service was great too, maybe because of the mess up on reservation. All worked out and it was a great dinner.

  6. We were on the Dawn to Bermuda on May 12. We never heard one peep from any of our neighbors, although we saw them a couple of times. Mini suite on deck 11. Can hear some pool music rumbles on certain nights but that stops pretty early and doesn't bother us. The Dawn is perfect for us, although I do understand why some want more activities. It is a fun small ship wth it's own allure, including a really splendid friendly staff. We're looking forward to November 3: our 5th cruise on the Dawn.

  7. Thanks so much for all the information, We are on the Dawn this week and watched your progress down the coast last weekend. Good captain to keep safety and comfort top priority. Happy you are enjoying your cruise. Thanks again!

  8. As friends of Bill W we are responsible for our own sobriety and for carrying the message to those who still suffer. I have cruised lots of times. I have attended some of the onboard meetings. I have missed others because of doing things with my family. However, when I need a meeting, I get out my Big Book, go find a quiet place, and read. I also take GrapeVine with me. This works for me, and I have met others who have joined me.

Here, here! I agree with rbrugler. I went to a Friends of Bill meeting once on the Dawn, and I was the only one to show up. I had a very nice time of quiet reflection on how grateful I am to be sober. Sometimes Keep It Simple Is the best thing!!

PS I love that this is a very old thread. Shows how important the subject is to some of us!
