  1. I just got off the Majesty this morning, and the hotel director had some comments at the C&A reception.

First, Majesty is getting a multi-million dollar refurbishment. Clearly, she needs it. Except for the MDR on Deck 3, she looked tired and worn. She had shown her age since my last cruise in March of 2010.

Now, the fact that the refurbishment has been scaled back could very well mean that RC had already decided that the Majesty was only going to stay with RC for a short amount of time, before going back into dry dock in Freeport for the work needed to prep her for joining one of RC's European lines.

The reason that she is staying with RC is that the economy in Europe is still struggling, and RC decided that it didn't need another ship catering to the European market.

Second, the hotel director joked that he had no idea why Empress was being brought back to the RC fleet, except for the fact that she fits very nicely in Havana harbor. The assumption there is the Cuban government hasn't done the work necessary to accept any of the large ships like RC's Oasis, Quantum, and Freedom-class ships, the NCL Breakaway class, or the Carnaval Dream and Conquest classes.

And, it could be that RC thinks that the attraction of Cuba doesn't need a ship with the bells and whistles that one finds on the newer ships.w

    Practical.

  2. I'm on the Anthem of the Seas now. Out of numerous meals and snacks I've had over ten days, there were two items (that's items, not entire meals) that I couldn't eat. The scrambled eggs in the buffet and one of the salad dressings in Jamie's.

Everything else has been good to excellent.

You know what I did both times I didn't like something?

Sit down, this will blow your mind.

I let them know about the problem and then I found something else to eat.

    Crazy, right?

The food is terrific. And if you don't like something, get something else. Repeat as necessary and you'll be happy.

Unless you don't want to be happy. Then there's nothing I can do to change your mind. So I won't try.

    Have a nice day, everyone!

Nobody can eat the scrambled eggs in the buffet.

  3. Thanks. Quite kid friendly on Enchantment then

They also had films for the adults like the lastest Mission Impossible and Jurassic World. There was an indoor film, Mr. Holmes, that played in the Orpheum. And, a late night film, Vacation ®.

It covered a wide range of age groups.

  4. wow, my question was just that, a question and it was about social media and how the younger croud feels about cruise ships. The last 3 overboard tragedys were aboard rccl. What is a troll?

I read a report that called the person that went overboard on Oasis a jumper. I don't know about the others. No mention of alcohol playing a role in this one.

And a "troll" is someone who posts a statement with the deliberate intent of inciting an emotional response (usually a negative one) from other readers. On these boards, it usually comes from fans of other cruise lines or people who are upset with RCCL (for one reason or another).

You don't have a lot of posts here, but the majority of the ones you have are on the RCCL board. That, to me, is evidence that your intent wasn't to troll, but to post a legitimate question.

  5. Keep seeing reports of people drinking way to much, falling overboard, violence with a younger cruise group and wonder if social media has Royal as the cruise line of choice for party down. I do know rccl pushes the booze hard when aboard.

Are you referring to an old YouTube video that claimed this? It's completely untrue!

RCCL has always had a relaxed atmosphere. Its reputation is not based on the on-board parties, which are very tame, but for the activities and entertainment. That, and its newer ships (which are considered to be destinations in themselves).

  6. I just got off Enchantment yesterday.

I decided to forego the MDR in favor of Chops and the WJ. I did go to the MDR for lunch on the sea day and was quite pleased with the Tutti salad and the chicken sliders (I almost asked for a second helping of those).

Skipping the MDR in favor of the WJ for dinner gave me a different cruise experience than the ones in the past, which is what I was looking for. I felt like I had more freedom to make the shows and the movies. And the waitstaff in the WJ gets high marks from me for offering personalized (albeit limited) service.

That being said, I was rather disappointed in the lunch selection in the WJ. It seemed like the best option, which really surprised me, was the cheeseburger and fries. The service was still exceptional.
