  1. It's actually cheating since they're not supposed to be there, eat the offered food nor get the $5 drinks. On top of that, this person was talking about using someone else's card, which is very dishonest.

The reason I mentioned taking his card is so there was proof that they are not serving more people than they planned. I figured 2 invitations (cards) = 2 people. Smuggling booze on board or food off the ship would be cheating. Being pool chair hogs is cheating... I'm ok with them not wanting the space taken up by so many people that the "privileged" don't have room to enjoy but never thought anyone would worry we might eat too many shrimp. We don't drink alcohol but are more than happy to buy others a drink.

Not to push the point but I did mention I am disabled and if I wasn't lucky enough to have my wonderful support team helping, I wouldn't be cruising . This also gives my poor hubby a break.

  2. DH and I are Platinum . Given the choice he wouldn't be in the same room with anything that comes from the water. I am disabled and won't go by myself. I'm traveling in a group of 12 but DH and I are the only ones who will qualify for the lounge. Will they let my sister in with me if she has my DH card ? I'd hate to miss it, other Platinum friend went with me on the Royal.

  3. We are a group of 12 sailing RT from Seattle on the Golden on June 28. One couple (first time cruisers) got upgraded from an outside obstructed to an unobstructed. Then today she received an email that they went from window P203 to BALCONY A743 !!! Needless to say she is thrilled :). It's gonna be a great cruise. Friends and family from Maine to Japan.

I didn't know they would upgrade from one type cabin to another, thought it was just a better location.

  4. Distressing to say the least!

We really enjoy room service and always tip. If the fee is $3 per trip and not $3 per person, maybe I could live with that, but I sure will feel low not tipping the person who brings our breakfast.

On the Royal ( we made the TA last fall), Alfredo's was a favorite for a late lunch. I am sure I would not pay a cover charge. We don't normally drink wine, so that doesn't make the cover charge appealing.

We are long-time Princess customers. Hopefully they will not make changes that will erode their customer base.

We were on Royal in Feb and were charged the $10 pp in Alfredo's. Personally I enjoyed it $10 worth.

  5. I am originally from the Bar Harbor area and I would not say Cottage St. (The steep street) should not be a problem with a scooter. It is Very steep, I cannot imagine my scooter making it. People have to lean into their steps to walk up. I would suggest going along Water St then coming down Main St to get onto Cottage. Turn right and do the upper end of Cottage street first. I don't know if you can find a private driver or tour but that is the course I would take. I would highly suggest Jordan's Pond House in Acadia Park, go to the top of Cadillac Mountain, and cross the Trenton Bridge to eat lobster at the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound . This is how local Mainiacs live.

  6. I LOVE Aqua class. I loved the special feeling it gave me . But... My DH and a friend who cruises (own cabin) didn't care for it, so I get outnumbered :( I really liked the Blu menu especially the table side prepared muesli in the morning, YUM ! I also could have laid on the heat tile beds overlooking the water all day. I think if you are even thinking about it you should give it a try.

  7. My parents will be taking their first trip since my mother’s stroke six years ago. They’ll be flying from the eastcoast to Seattle, spending a few days at my house, and then we’ll all cruise on the Golden Princess Glacier Bay trip.

Around the house she uses a quad-cane with an aide to hold her in case she loses balance. When she goes out she also uses a wheelchair - I think it’s called transport type (with four smaller wheels), which they keep in the trunk of car. I’m wondering if the transport chair will be sufficient or whether I should look into finding a collapsible chair with bigger wheels to get around the ship and for stops in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. (She will not use the chair by herself as one arm is also impaired, but will be traveling with her longtime aide.)

In Skagway, I think they’d like the rail trip (one way or RT?). In Juneau, it seems like Mendenhall Glacier is the site to see, but I’m concerned about the ease of getting around with the transport chair and also whether the distances might be to tiring for my father to walk. (Also, what is the easiest way to get there so they are not tired out at start.) Other Juneau ideas? In Ketchikan, the time is so short, that maybe a visit to town will suffice? My parents have cruised before my mother's stroke (warm places). It will be first time for my teen and me. (My teen will likely do more strenuous excursions.)

    Advice and suggestions welcome!

When are you cruising ? We have a party of 10 going on June 28th Golden . There are two scooter riders, myself included. DH & I have done these ports before and have "handicap" excursions planned in all the ports. Happy to share plans or have you follow along with us. We are hitting what I consider the major sites !

  8. As someone who lives in Alaska I find Tracy's overpriced for the product. I love king crab, but I'm not that impressed with Tracy's Crab Shak.

I've had it at Tracy's and was very impressed but I'm not used to eating it much. Where do you suggest tourists eat king crab ? Thanx

  9. I just booked with Mark at M&M tours. We are going up on the train and back on the bus, my choice. We are then going over to Liarsville for the show and salmon bake. We are a party of 10. Mark was great about communication and service.

  10. My group is only 10 , but what hubby & I are doing is renting a car or van, planning the day ourselves (we have gone twice before) and asking anyone if they want to tag along, of course they may add stops to the agenda, too. The planning is being done in each port ,as well as offering the newbies help booking private tours if they prefer, I hate to see them take ship excursions ! We will just make plans to all meet at dinner.

  11. We are cruising for the first time with our 9 year old daughter who is disabled and we use a PEG tube for half of her meals. She was diagnosed about a year ago with a disease which requires her to be on the Ketogenic diet for treatment and the tube was placed at that time; so this is our first time traveling by plane/cruise with the supplies.

Couple Questions: Will the airlines allow us to bring on liquid formula in our carry-on?

Is it best to pack all of the feeding supplies in a separate checked suitcase?

Also, if anyone has experience cruising while on ketogenic diet, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Mike

Are you staying overnight before you leave on your cruise ? You could have a case if formula shipped to your hotel a day or two ahead of time.

I have had to carry an ice pack and meds in a collapsible cooler bag on board the plane. Security was wonderful about it.

    Have a wonderful trip.

  12. There will be a total if 5 ships in port by that day , that's why I worried about things being opened early. If they are going to be that busy would our ship matter !

Wuggly19, after visiting Ketchikan 3 times in the past, even though it is a cute town, IMHO, if we had to get short changed by time , I'm glad it is here vs Juneau or Skagway. We usually just stay close to town and shop. Might go out fishing this time since it is so early, though.

    27 of ya, huh ?

  13. We will be in Ketchikan on the Golden Princess on July 3rd. 7am till 12:30 pm (noon) seems like really odd hours. We have been a couple of times already but are cruising with 6 friends who have not. Will ANYTHING be opened that early ?

    Thanks

    Kelly

  14. IMHO there should be lines with stantions and rope that can accommodate scooters, and scooter/wheelchair users should wait their turn like everyone else for elevators, buses, etc. If there is no room for the scooter and it is next in line, no one gets on at that stop. They should not automatically get priority boarding. The only exception is children on Wish trips.

I'm a bit late coming here but.... I don't expect priority in an elevator but I DO expect to be allowed to get on when it is my turn. Or at least in the third or fourth following my turn. On a recent cruise , hubby and I waited at least 10 additional elevators as people would push and rush past before I could get the 4 feet I parked away from the door to allow people off. Hubby , who never says anything negative to anybody finally asked people to wait so he could get me loaded and he would walk the straits and meet me. He still had people argue that they had already waited one elevator. Some A/B "gentlemen" were shamed enough to get back out. I used to walk the stairs when I could, wish it was still an option.

I don't believe disabled should be given priority when all things are considered equal but there are situations that we just can't do. Parking my scooter outside a bathroom stall and hobbling in with my cane is a possibility. The raised seats in H/C are much appreciated on my back and knees , though. Even one flight of stairs is not a possibility , so I guess I am at the mercy of the crowd .

    JMHO,

    Kelly

  15. I won't be upgrading...we leave very early the next morning. I know we will get the super old rooms. I'm fine with it lol. First time staying there.

Riverside is in a very nice shopping area if you have time. Yummy bakery and ice cream shop just across the street. Old Spaghetti Factory on the corner.

We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was good.

Specifically booked this hotel for our Feb 16 cruise.

  16. Isn't it funny what we look forward to on our cruises, :p

Hubby and I also have our favorite pizza place and water side restaurant. For Christmas this year I received a small notebook especially designed to write/critique places that we eat. It has space for the restaurant info, what you ordered and other things. This is going to make my life much easier .
