  1. Sorry Motleyfan, but you are just arguing for the sake of arguing. There is no justification for a $8 charge to bring food to your room, free food at that. Let alone to do it without any forewarning to your guests. This is not being cheap, it is being nickle and dimed.

We are those people who leave $5-10 tips when we eat dinner for the waiters. and give a $1 or 2 for every drink we order. Even when we are drinking for free in the casino or comped dinner. Tipping your waiter/waitress/busboy/delivery person, etc is just something we feel is right to do. Not everyone does it, but we do chose to do so.

This $7.95, if it went directly into the delivery person's pocket, I (and I bet others) would have no issue with it. Problem is, the person delivering the food to us probably sees 79.5 cents of that $7.95. So in essence, NCL is making room service a "speciality dining" charged fee, for crappy coffee, stale muffins and over/under ripe fruit.

  2. I don't understand the big deal, as I said I am for now on calling this the motivation to get off your butt and go down to the restaurant or buffet service charge.

I think the point is if someone doesn't want to get off their butt to go to the buffet, they now have to pay $8.

Personally, the only time we use room service is mornings when we are docked at a port and have an early morning excursion or going to the beach. Was an wasy way to get bfast and pick/eat while getting ready. Certainly will not be paying $8 to half eat a muffin or banana and take a few sips of coffee before leaving the ship.

  3. Per person or Per stateroom? Both me and my wife are comped thru the casino. Every cruise we each get a free dinner/bottle of wine. We get 2 plates of chocolates, etc. So 2 envelopes?

Reason I'm asking, when we play roulette, we each have 2 numbers we play inside (along with then a bigger bet on red/black/even/odd).

Might just take all 4 chips, put them inside, hope 1 hits, and we turn $100 into $825.

  4. Completely and utterly disagree with anyone who said this is standard in land based casinos. We take weekend trips Borgata in AC 4-5x a year for the past 5 years. Play at other AC casinos when down there. Have been to MGM and Wynn in Vegas probably a dozen times in my life. Foxwoods and Mohegan again about a dozen.

None, I repeat NONE of them have the 1 hand rule for any of the card table games (let it ride, 3 card poker, 4 card poker, any of the texas holdem games, pai gow, etc). Everyone always squeezes and squints at their cards when looking at them with 2 hands, hoping that 3rd card gives them 3 of a kind or a straight flush.

We have been on 4-5 NCL ships, everyone on them have this rule, and it is the only place I have ever heard of it. Can't speak for other cruise lines, have never been on any. But land based casinos, certainly do not have this rule.

  5. Maybe someone else has a better answer, but I thought OBC was just that on-board CREDIT. It's not cash or a credit card. If you have $250 in OBC, there is just a line item of (-$250) on your end statement.

I don't think it matters what you want to use this towards. When you get your statement the last day/morning before disembarking. You will have all your charges listed, then a -250 from that total and then the net amount charged to your credit card.

So I don't see why you couldn't use it towards a future cruise as long as the cost of the future cruise is charged to your on-board account.

  6. They are usually available on EBay.

I've checked quite a bit. They have some of the 40" wooden models for $500. I was looking more for the smaller scale metal die-cast ones. They are like $39.99 or so on the cruise/in the NCL shop. But will keep looking if no website sells them. Seems like Carnival and RCCL sell theirs thu their own website, but NCL doesn't, which I find odd.

  7. Does anyone know if there is anyplace online you can buy the diecast model cruise ships they sell on board in the ncl gift shop?

We've gotten one for every ship we've been on except the jewel as the shop was sold out. And as a small little surprise Xmas gift for my wife I was hoping to track one down. I've searched everywhere including eBay and can't seem to find it anyplace for sale.

Silly gift I know but would complete the collection and my wife would love it, especially since the jewel won't be back in NY anytime soon.

    Thanks in advance

  8. Archie was great, although laid back that some of the other cruise directors.

Luz on the other hand, we thought was terrible. Truly one of the worst Asst cruise directors we ever had, and usually the Asst CD is the one most visable at the parties and stuff.

  9. I'm in Bermuda and I can tell you we won't know anything until it actually hits. It might do a lot of damage or it might not, no one really knows. The Dawn is scheduled to arrive on Sunday so that is still plenty if Bermuda is able to accept the ship. I believe the best thing to do is take one day at a time and just go with the flow. Just think, I'll be cleaning up while you're on a cruise and on vacation.

Bermuda is mine and my wife's favorite vacation spot in the world. It was also where we went on our honeymoon and took our first cruise to. We absolutely love the people, the beaches, the houses, the friendliness, and the itinery the cruise ships run there. We even call Bermuda "our island" despite taking cruises and trips to many others over the years.

As someone who went thru Sandy here in NY, which will pale in comparasion to the storm about to hit you guys, can only hope that everyone stays safe and it deviates from the course so you don't take a full hit. Good luck to you and everyone and we hope to visit "our island" again soon.

  10. I got a postcard today from CET (Caesars) to go pick up a cruise certificate from them in November but I had to RSVP that I was showing up to the event. Last time they had one, you could go any time during the day and just pick up a certificate. (We never ended up using it because it was only good for 6 cruises that were within a month of the date of picking it up.)

My question is have any of you been to a similar event where you had to RSVP to get the certificate? Do they make you book on the spot when they do it this way?

Also, we have booked our past 2 cruises through CAS because they offered us comps or higher discounts than the CET Platinum that we would have got booking through CET so I haven't actually used a free cruise cert from them, I know you still pay taxes but can you upgrade if you use one (if you like a balcony and they give you a inside)?

Our April cruise was a similar offer from the since closed Revel.

Both me and my wife got certificates for a free cruise, which were inside rooms. There is a little fine print saying both certificates can't be combined if people who live in the same house, and can't be combined with other offers.

Don't have to book on the spot.

I called CAS about a month after we got the certificates and picked what cruise we wanted to do. We wanted a balcony room for us, and also wanted a 2nd room for my mom for her 60th bday. Flat out told them that i know the print says it can't be combined but was there anything they could do for us.

They did their thing on the back end...gave my mom an comped inside room (except for port fees and taxes) and upgraded us to a balcony room for $300 a person plus fees and taxes. So altogether it was quite a significant deal they gave us.

I don't know how much of that was the certificate. How much of that was our CAS host/comp pts, but they definitely worked with us and hooked us up. So i would suggest get the certificates and then give them a call and see what they can do for you.

  11. From my experience on cruises, the bartenders and waiters/waitresses in the casinos and certain bars (Spinnaker on the Gem for example) tend to be the sames ones working that area for the entire length of the cruise.

last few cruises we've gone on, the first time we order drinks i tip a $20 in cash and ask the waiter that whenever they see us, see if we need anything.

might be a bit much (some might say obnoxious), but i've never had a problem getting drinks or even soda/bottles of water after doing that.

  12. I know there have been some posts and people complaining about CAS perks going away, so wanted to post the other side of that and pay them a compliment and say how truly amazing the CAS customer service dept is.

We are leaving on a 9 day cruise in a few weeks, and we had a cruise booked for April 2015 already set. But after Xmas, me and the wife usually do a weekend in AC to relax after busy holidays with shopping, family, and work events. If you live in the tri-state area, you know, AC is about to implode. We still get comps from Borgota and Harrahs, but on a whole, the city is just depressing and it's not fun anymore.

So checked out NCL and saw they had a few 2 nighters on the Breakaway mid/late Jan. Kind of expensive for a 2 nighter on a balcony or mini-suite but figured what the heck, let me email CAS and see if there was anything they could do.

Within a few hours, one of the reps emailed me back with the prices for each room cateogory and date. The prices was less than 1/3 of the cost on NCL's website. I emailed her back saying which date and room category we were interested in...she put the room on hold until I could call, and after a 30 second phone call giving her my credit card, whole thing was done. So instead of a weekend in AC, we get to "getaway" on the breakaway.

Just an amazingly easy and painless process thanks to the CAS staff member I emailed. So while I doubt they will ever see this, thank you

  13. i'm currently on the Gem (day5).

who do i see on reducing what i owe on my on board acct on the last day of the trip?

casino manager? cruise ship front desk?

    edit:

this is my 1st ncl cruise, and i booked thru CAS.

I dont have a host nor do i know if there even one on this ship?

Just go up to the casino services desk (not the cashier) with your room card and casino card. The will post something saying redeem comp pts from like 7pm-9pm on day 7.

  14. If you have the red card than you should be a "HOT" player and yes there are additional perks. Here is a link to the page that shows the different tier levels and what you will receive at each;

    http://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/casino-cruise/players-club

You will see that one of the benefits is a dinner for two at a specialty restaurant. There should be a voucher in your cabin when you arrive that you can take to the restaurant of your choice. It does not say on the website but this dinner also comes with a bottle of wine. If your voucher is not in your cabin just speak to the casino host.

Welcome to the world of CAS cruising! :)

    Rochelle

    Nice! Thank you Rochelle.

  15. Pardon me for the noob question...

This is going to be our 8th cruise (October on the Gem) but first that we booked thru the casino. I know, shame on us for not doing it with the previous ones as we obviously gambled quite a bit and are the red category, but that's for a different topic.

Anyway, we booked the CAS. They "used our comps" and gave us a great deal (atleast I think so), mini suite for me and my wife for $1800 total ($900 per person). On the website, the same 9 day cruise, the mini suites are listed as $2000 per person so this is like half price.

I thought that was the extent of our perks, never asked anything further. I mean i know we priority embarking at the pier and get the drink cards because we're "red" card holders, but there are other perks that come with this? If so, do they tell you, is it listed in your room, should i be calling someone to get a list?

  16. My husband and I have booked this May 24th cruise next year as well for our 10 year anniversary. Cruising child free this time so looking to kick back and relax.

We have been wondering the same thing if it's worth it to get the Vibe passes. Based on the comments above it sounds like something we should do. What do they have for music in the vibe area? That is one thing that we enjoy when sitting by the pool is listening to the bands playing the island music.

no bands, they have music and speakers though but it's playing normal top 40 music mostly.

  17. Hello, A lot of things have changed since I last cruised with NCL and I have a question about vibe. We are booked for May 24th going to Bermuda. I was wondering if we should try to purchase vibe or not? Being as most kids are still in school do you think it is worth it? Also, is vibe just a private area with lounge chairs and cabanas or is there also a pool? I know that passes are not easy to come by and I have no issue with making it my first priority especially if you guys tell me it is worth it. :D

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Me and the wife were on a late May Breakaway cruise to Bermuda this year. First time we decided to get the vibe passes and I can honestly say, will get them every single time we're on the Breakaway again. Probably one of the best purchases we ever made on any of our 7 cruises so far.

It's basically just a nice little private area, with plenty of lounge chairs and flat beds/mats (for lack of a better description). 2 private jacquizzis. Your own bar with the same bartender and servers every day. They also bring around fruit plates and stuff from time to time.

The best part though is the people. I guess we were lucky enough that the other people who had vibe passes were all great people, but we made friends, and wound up seeing these same people the entire cruise and even went to the beach together one day with a few of them all splitting a cab.

There were other chairs available around the pool from time to time, but the setup and atmosphere in the Vibe was still better and more relaxing. Only thing, as someone else mentioned, you are no where near a pool. So if going in the pool or on the slides is important, then you might be better off finding a chair around there. But if you just want to relax and sit out in the sun with a drink...def get the passes
