  1. Wow they are so backwards when it comes to ships leaving the USA with their smoking policies. I cannot believe that it is still acceptable over there to smoke inside a casino knowing the dangers of smoking not just to players but also to staff. Over here it is banned in all enclosed spaces and strictly enforced on the grounds of the health and safety of the employees.

Cruise lines departing from the UK including NCL and RCI do not allow smoking in any inside spaces INCLUDING the casinos. Why is there this strange stance in the US that people "need" to smoke whilst gambling ?

  2. Sailed out of Rome last year on a RCI ship, in the theater one night they listed the numbers and nationalities on board. The largest number of guests were from England, USA was second.

Sailed out of Port Canaveral again last year, Largest group was USA, second largest was England.

  3. What is it they say? Often the cover up is worse than the crime. Even if one thinks it is no big deal, given what the feeling/myth is about lobster on a cruise ship and the fact they make or have made a big deal about "lobster" night in the past, wouldn't it be a decent thing for NCL to admit what has been done and give a reason for it?

The reason is fairly obvious, they don't need to spell it out. It is the price, same reason fillet steak is not free in the main dining room.

  4. I seem to recall the roulette wheel on the RCI ships has a 0 and a 00, so it's like low-limit Vegas (but worse than Europe which never has a 00). But don't they also shaft you on the payout to a number, giving you 32:1 instead of 35:1? Maybe I'm thinking of a European ferry boat or something...

The game on the major cruise lines normally played is American Roulette. Personally I would not touch it with a bargepole. In land based casinos in the UK we play European Roulette. This is the version played in the majority of casinos outside of the USA. The main difference been the 00 in the American version. The other difference is the la partage rule which pays 50% of outside bets back to the player should the ball land on the 0.

Outside chances House edge American roulette 5.26%

Outside chances House edge European roulette 2.7%

Outside chances House edge European roulette la partage rule 1.35%

You are looking at massive differences in likely losses over several hours of game play.

For this reason I stick to only Blackjack on cruise ships.

  5. I too am going to be going on Getaway followed by Allure in August. I have been on both Allure and Oasis before but I have never sailed with NCL. We are from the UK so tend to be in Florida for several weeks in the summer.

I intended to do a back to back on either Oasis or Allure but just before booking the price of one of the weeks increased dramatically to the tune of over £1000 ($1700) for the two of us but the other week stayed the same.

That is when I decided to look elsewhere and ended up booking Getaway.

We are in a balcony cabin on Allure and in the Haven on Getway. The Haven on Getaway was less in price than the first week on Allure following the price increase.
