  1. Another question regarding taking bottles of wine on board. RCI rules state you can take two bottles per cabin. We will be taking a charter bus to Baltimore to board our ship. Would we store the wine in a carry on? I guess also wrap them in something so they don't hit against each other and break.
We bought a package of two "wine skins" today at Total Wine. They are actually fancy Bubble wrap in the shape of a wine bottle. PERFECT. They have a shaped neck to tightly hold the top of the bottle and then a taped seal at the bottom. We have put them in our carry on , but I feel much more confident now that they won't break and spill all over the inside of my luggage. Just a suggestion.
  2. I know Chops qualifies as one of the top-5 steaks in my life. That's a definite must do.

For Giovanni's, the problem for me is after the appetizer and pasta, I'm about done and don't need the entrée. Also, maybe we just drew two bad days but both times we went the service wasn't 'as Royal as we were hoping.'

Samba Grill is a good "Brazilian for Beginners" if you've never been before but to us seemed a bit compromised due to the limitations of being on a ship. We're pretty loyal to our local Brazilian Steakhouse so there was a serious yardstick for it to stand up to; but if you've never done it and are curious, try it.

We were not at all Sushi people but after several drinks were talked/dared/shamed into Izumi and had to admit we probably should have tried it long ago. We were still sushi-rookies at that point but they helped walk us through. Funny that despite that evening's consumption I could still handle the chopsticks like a pro.

Rita's is a crapshoot because Rita's on Radiance (when it was a Cantina) had a full-menu and could be an MDR substitute, and Rita's on Serenade was a few snacks to eat with your Margaritas. Rita's on Radiance was "better than I was expecting" but breezy. We didn't go on the Serenade - we seriously thought the menu they had in the CL was missing pages or something.

Being from Ft. Worth, if you thought the steak in Chops was top five, then it was good. The best steak I have ever eaten was at the Old Cattlemen's restaurant in Ft. Worth . Nice to hear from a fellow Texan, I am temporarily misplaced to Georgia.
  3. We are leaving on the Allure Sunday. I was under the impression that the Allure still had the old menu in Chops and was not changing over to the new one till August. Is this false? Has the new menu been instigated already? :( We reservations for two nights and I may lean toward canceling one of them if it has. Thanks for any input in advance.

  4. Can any of you give me ( or tell me)the most valid phone number to reach The Allure once we are at sea? I sail on the June 29th sailing. I will not have my cell phone on, or the internet package ( I don't want to see a computer or phone for a week) . I have an elderly mother with Alzheimer's so I want to make sure my elderly step-father would be able to get a message to me if the need arises, without a lot of problems for him.

Years ago when we received cruise documents, they mailed us a card with contact info for families. I just can't seem to find what I feel is a direct number and I don't want the stress of them being on hold and bounced from one number to another if a true emergency arises for my family.

    Thank you for any advise.

  5. I have not read through the entire thread, so I may be repeating, but one of our original attractions to cruising when my DH and I began in the late 80"s was the pay ALL before you board. Now it seems like I pay just to board after I have made my final payment. There is a lot of "nickel and diming" that is going on and it is having the feeling of a land based resort rather than a cruise. I don 't know why there can not be a complimentary ice cream shop for kids or free cupcakes. I agree that now with Startbucks (which I personal dislike) the coffee is only mediocre. I remember the days of the midnight buffet ( not that I propose to see that return) but the Gala Buffet was incredible with all of the ice carvings and food art. They even allowed you in 30minutes early just for pictures. The different dance venues and tremendous musicians in small intimate bars. "Howling at the moon", The dueling pianos. I love the new Oasis class ships, but I do miss the ambience of cursing from yesteryear. Will I continue to cruise and do I enjoy every second yes, but would I like to see some of the old return, yes.

Just a few of my thoughts
